DIY: Refashioning a Maxi Dress

May 11th, 2009 § 23 comments §

One of the things I treasure about my summers is that I suddenly have the time to do little crafty projects that are impossible when the semester is in full swing. I have a fairly extensive list of refashioning projects that I’d like to complete before the baby arrives and I was excited to get started by creating a dress to wear to my first baby shower.

End Notes:

Since I’m spending today at home and at a coffee shop writing a paper I felt free to try experiment a little. This week, part of our Fashion 101 challenge is to master triadic color combinations. I am not a natural triad-wearer, so I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this eggplant, orange, and green scheme. For some reason the combination strikes me as a little hippie-chic, which is appropriate since I’m also channeling my inner earth-mother-goddess in this maxi dress.

Now, confession. Prior my pregnancy you may have heard me smack talking maxi dresses. I may have been guilty of calling them tents. I also may have thought some unkind things about their name. And now I take it back. My belly is ready to live in this thing.
