When I sported a white polo for a little golf outing a few weeks back, reader Jessica asked how I might style a polo off the course. Well, here you have it. This J Crew polo is much softer than the average polo and feels more like a worn-in tee-shirt. I love the detail of the little pocket and extra buttons. I also love the color of this top – a pinky peachy almost coral. I think on the color wheel, it falls closest to pink (a shade of red) thus making its compliment green.

I wore a similar outfit when we explored complimentary colors back in February. Using the same necklace as my pop of green, this time I have wrapped it around my wrist several times to create an oversized bracelet. I loved S.’s big blocks of bright color yesterday and promise to give that approach a try at some point this week, but for now am easing into color mixing by grounding my look with a neutral base in the denim skirt.

It was only after I put this on yesterday that I realized why it looked so familiar:
I had essentially worn the same outfit this winter. But yesterday, nstead of February’s dark gray sweater, I wore a dark gray tank top. Instead of cognac boots I wore t-strap wedges. I think it’s funny that I even wore my orange necklace in the same alternate way (with an extra chain attached to alter the shape).
Oh, right. And I guess this time around I’m also almost 9 months preggers.
I suppose this means I have a consistent style through the seasons and through pregnancy! But I’m curious if any of you feel like your style changes with the seasons. Do you pull more to the hippie, bohemian side during the summer but are preppier in the fall? Do you embrace the retro look more in the spring and go mod in the winter? Or does your style stay fairly defined year-round? Do you have summer versions of favorite winter combinations?

Today’s outfit started with the shoes (it had to be flats!). As A. mentioned, we ran our marathon yesterday and it was awesome! The feeling of crossing the finish line of my first marathon was incredible! And thank you to all of you who left comments with good luck wishes before our big day!
Post-race, I’m moving at a much slower pace. I’ve been walking pretty slowly and I’ve finally and slowly come to writing this post. But as tired and slow as I am, I feel wonderful. Also slow paced: my ideas for getting dressed this morning. So I copped out and turned to E. for style inspiration and copied this signature layering look of hers.

I love the look of just the sleeves peaking out from under this tank, creating a seamless layer and extending the life of a summer item by adding sleeves to it.

In addition, I’m wearing this cute pendant that I got from “It’s all about the print” on Etsy. I got three, because they were only 6.95 a pop, and there was a ‘buy two and get one free’ March special going on when I purchased them. (I think that same offer was extended to April sales!) I liked all the different designs the seller had and I was smitten by them being made of Scrabble pieces. I love Scrabble and love that my additiction is no longer just limited to playing the game – now I can accessorize with it as well. S.

I’ve been something of a slacker for this week’s color wheel challenge, but I’m trying to make up for it today with this split complementary outfit. The combination of orange cardigan and blue-green top toes the line of a pairing that I would have made prior to our Fashion 101 series. But I would have never, ever thought to wear my red wedges with this. They’re unexpected, and I love how it makes the whole outfit a little bit quirkier. It’s a cheerful, casual — albeit a bit noisy — look, perfect for a day of a running errands and revising a paper.
