Dear readers,

As of August 1st 2011, this site is no longer being updated on a regular basis. We will likely check in with the occasional post or update as we hit personal and professional milestones, but it will not be in the regular daily schedule of past postings. If you are new here and want to read more about the origins of and impetus for this project, please read our “State of the Field”.

If you’ve come to this site for posts on academia, style, gender, and the many ways those topics intersect, please see our archives for previous daily posts, lively theoretical discussions, and a variety of DIYs and Tutorials. You can also explore by categories or tags. Make sure to read the comments for excellent contributions as well!

And if you’d like to revisit each of our parting thoughts, you can read posts from S., E., L., and A.

Thank you. Really, thank you.

I don’t even know where to begin to thank you ladies for your kind reflections, intelligent conversation, and creative approach to fashion! I so appreciate everything this site has been about! Yours is the only blog I read that I really wish I could be real-life friends with the writers–you are just one amazing bunch of ladies! Best wishes and good luck in all that the future brings!

Thank you so much, ladies! (And I choose to say ‘ladies’ in the very highest admiration, using only the most positive connotations of that term . . !) I have always appreciated not only your style, but your thoughtful, gracious, professional approach. I have long admired your beauty, and come to admire your own personal selves as well. All the very best – much love from New Zealand. xoxox

Thanks, Chics. I can’t quite believe how long it’s been since I opened up that first post, which I think was a tutorial from S on how to wear boots with different outfits. This blog has been such a joy to read, especially whenever things got tough for me throughout my college career. I hid behind baggy sweatpants and cardigans when I first got to college, but reading academichic helped me discover so much about me, my body, and my style. So, for me the thanks is all for you. Have wonderful lives, and I can’t wait to see whenever you all check in!

Take care, Em from New Zealand

  24. Jessie says:

Even though I just stumbled across your blog recently (during the last few days!) I wanted to send the biggest of thank yous for your thoughts and creativity! I am beginning a doctoral program this fall, and have spent the latter part of summer plagued with conflicting thoughts of academia, fashion, & feminism…

Already your blog has helped to quell the anti-fashionista thoughts that had surfaced in my mind as I tried to come to terms with what it would mean to be an “academic”. (plus, I think I finally figured out what I can wear to an upcoming faculty welcome dinner!)

So, thank you, again, for creating such a wonderful resource! I’m sure I’ll be scouring your archives for years to come :)

  25. Joke says:

After visiting this blog occasionally to browse for specific inspiration (you guys rock! I love the color wheels and the packing tips and all the cute ensembles…), I just decided to add you to my more regular reads in my quest for finding a style to wear to work when I get my first job :)
I wish there was an option to have a retro RSS feed, one that makes a post pop up 3 years after it was written.
Thank you for everything, even though I haven’t read each and everyone of your posts, I know that every new one I will find will be great, since I loved the once I have read.
Thank you for leaving the archives up and best of luck in your non-blog endeavors!

  26. Carey says:

Please say it aint so. :( I’m so very sad. I have LOVED your site, ladies. Thank you.

  27. *sniff, sniff* I just found you, and now you’re leaving. I’ll have to content myself with the archives, I suppose. Best wishes, sincerely, to all of you.

  28. Susan says:

I just came across this site…well, via your Flickr page which is what I actually stumbled upon…so, anyway…
I know you are each intelligent 3 dimensional women, and really having that in the background makes it even better – but on the internet, visually, you are all leg porn. I’m so sorry to objectify you that way, and as I pointed out the academic background and posts add to that but God, the legs!
