E: Put a Hat on It, originally uploaded by academichic.
I think I might have seasonal hat addiction. I became a floppy hat fan last summer, and as soon as I saw these straw fedoras on Banana Republic’s website I knew that I had to try them.
Styling four head-to-toe outfits from Banana Republic’s spring line was a fun but exhausting experience. Since I’m used to having a more pared-down closet, the sheer volume of options — from tops and bottoms to dresses and cardigans to shoes and accessories — was a little overwhelming. But this particular outfit came together with relative ease, pieced together from individual items that I loved and one that I…didn’t.
I would not normally be drawn to this pastel celery colored cardigan, but it added an unexpected color twist to the inky patterned wrap dress and navy silver-studded shoes. Although I was originally going to find a necklace to complete the look, I plunked the straw fedora down instead. I love the resulting breezy spring feel of the entire look, and you’ll be seeing a lot more of these shoes and this hat in the near future, remixed in with the rest of my closet.
Not everything in Banana Republic stores is available online. Did you know that? I didn’t. But here’s an approximation of my outfit: Cardigan, Similar Dress, Similar Shoes (though the real ones are much better), Belt, and Hat.

what a brilliant move on the part of banana republic to employ the four of you to pick out some pieces for spring! i love the outfits you all put together–they are just gorgeous!
this one is particularly you, it seems–and i love the unexpected color of the cardigan.
I think I would like to live inside that outfit for the next several years if you please. How wonderful to have a company like Banana choose real women to model and explore their clothing in real life settings, which is (you know) what they’re designed for (not the catwalk or the glossy pages of a catalog). I’m really cheered by this whole experience!
This might be an all-time favorite outfit on academichic!
[...] Like E. said putting together outfits was surprisingly hard – not for lack of options, but at least for [...]
That dress is adorable! I love it!!
Love the whole look, especially how you are bringing the fedora back!
Super cute. Love the soft yellow.
the dress is beautiful!
You look great with that hat! I love fedoras and am definitely a hat girl. Too bad I already have a straw fedora! No excuse to get a new one!
[...] I tried on while at BR were these silver studded navy flats. These are the same ones E. wore in her facebook outfit. Neither of us could resit taking a pair home with us, so you can expect to see our matching flats [...]
I would buy the leather crossbody purse in taupe.
