End Notes:

You know what I hate the most about jeans? The second day, when they get all saggy in the butt and you have to keep doing the little hike and hop wiggle.

But guess what? This photograph of the Lola skinny jeans, generously provided for review by Lucky Brand, was taken on the second day of wearing it and…no saggy butt. The denim has just a touch of stretch, but it’s substantial and frankly seems to have some magic thigh smoothing properties.

My only caveat is that, as a long torso girl, the Lola does not quite fit the bill as a mid-rise jean for me. I could use another half inch to an inch in the rise, especially on days when I’ll be moving around a lot. But, for nights out on the town, these jeans, with their dark wash and slick fit, would be a top option.

For the rest of the outfit, I decided to play the military cardigan against a rich, multi-strand gold necklace. It’s a little nod to European nineteenth century military portraits of kings and commanders in brass buttoned jackets with an excess of gold fringe and ornaments everywhere.

You know, like this guy:

Can you see it?

I see it – I dig it! I love bringing a hint of historical costuming into my wardrobe. Keeps things fun.

And second day jean syndrome is the worst!

  2. Brenda Heller says:

You look so presh! Love the military look…all of the time! There are SOME days that second day jean syndrome is not soooooo bad. ie. Cold Saturday afternoon chillin’ around the house.

  3. A-C says:

I definitely see the resemblance. Sometimes those types of portraits are the most fun to look at. I like your modern take on the military jacket + gold finery. Much easier to wear for daily life.

  4. Beth says:

I see it. But what I really see is your sweet wedges. Have you worn them before? Either way, great color for a shoe.

  5. Laura says:

I agree! Those wedges are eye-catching!

  6. Clare says:

You and Ivan are like twins!

Seriously, though, I love this. Military + gold + wedges = awesome Friday outfit.

  7. Luinae says:

    Very pretty necklace!

  8. I think (no, I know) I am in love with this outfit. I absolutely love the military cardigan with the gold necklaces. Love how you pulled inspiration from a very unlikely source! And those wedges are divine.

  9. Terri says:

I have saggy butt as I read this post!

  10. Kelly K says:

Very cute outfit, love it! I got my skinny jeans at the Gap, Always Skinny label. I never get the saggy butt, they fit perfectly every time I put them on. Highly recommended.

    Such a great sweater!
I had a question and wasn’t sure how to contact any of you privately so I thought I would try here. My question is primarily directed at L as she works at a private school (secondary I assume). Do any of you worry about students or faculty finding this blog and seeing pictures of yourself online? I am starting as a teacher and am worried I will get in trouble by faculty for having a personal style blog or discovered by my high school students. How do you ladies deal with these issues? I just thought I would ask because I’m not sure I want to get rid of my blog!
    Thanks!

i LOVE this look! i might just have to run out and get a jacket like that now! :)

  13. [...] They are also real denim with a very small touch of stretch, and the lower leg isn’t too tight. Like E., I wore these repeatedly and they didn’t stretch out much in the waistband (which is incredible). [...]

I also have a long torso and have had problems finding true mid rise (on me) jeans. What jeans have you found that you feel fit the bill?

    Thanks!
