Long-time readers may be attempting to adjust their computer screens. Yes, that is A. in a mix of three patterns, two of which are rather bold! I’ve made no attempt to hide my fear of pattern on this site. I’ve come to embrace stripes and the occasional argyle, but florals are still a struggle. So, a year ago an all over leaf print would have been unthinkable, let alone mixed with an equally bold argyle-like scarf or even the more subtle herringbone pattern belt. But today I decided to channel a bit of S.
This dress actually came to me during a clothing swap E. and I hosted a month or so ago and originally belonged to E. However, E. wore it so infrequently, she never even blogged the dress, so while it did come from her closet, it makes me think of S.’s closet much more. S. actually owns the same dress and I think the pattern makes it a much more S. dress, though upon retuning to the archives, I was surprised to find she has only blogged it twice. Perhaps it is oh so S. because of it’s resemblance to other patterned items in her closet.
The mix of bold patterns is also something S. does strikingly, so I heeded her advice of mixing patterns in the same color palette and pulled out this brown and teal diamond patterned scarf S. sent me from Munich.
It is no doubt a bold and busy look, but it still feels rather me in terms of silhouette and color combination. And when the pattern becomes to much for me today, I can always pull on this fabulous tench, scored on super sale at the end of the spring and premiered today.

Love this, so pretty and bright!! You look beautiful!

Beautiful!
This outfit is gorgeous!
This looks so so good!
This is a fantastic outfit, A! The pattern on that dress is perfect for autumn.
Love this look! One of my goals is to learn how to buy patterns, wear patterns and mix patterns! I love it with the brown boots and belt!
I’m a patternphobe too, so this outfit is particularly inspiring! I love the sort of stained-glass window look. Lovely outfit and location today!
Love this outfit, and especially the fabulous color palette you’ve got going here.
I am afraid of prints, too, but this looks amazing. You certainly pull it off. Love it! Makes me want to try to step out of my comfort zone.
I love it! I absolutely love it.
This totally works. I think pattern mixing looks so fresh. Great job on this one!
The dress/scarf combo look amazing!!
I love it you brave pattern-mixer! You look superfab!
Patternlicious! You look fab–I have never tried mixing patterns in a bold way, but am inspired by your post to give it a go.
Looks wonderful on you! I was actually planning on wearing mine this week too!
I like how it falls above your knees on you (this betrays how much shorter I am since it falls so much lower on me). I’ve been debating the ‘to hem or not to hem’ question and I think your post settles it – I should hem it. I’m just nervous about hemming a stretchy fabric like jersey.
Any readers have any tips for hemming jersey? Is it a disaster just waiting to happen?
Thanks! S.
I didn’t recognize you a first— had to double-check the site address to be sure.
It’s a big change, but you look as striking as ever.
I love it! The pattern mixing is superb.
It looks lovely on you–no matter how it makes you feel. The hair cut is cute too.
Nice mixing! The dress looks great on you both. I was hoping to maybe see S. wear the dress on her blog too :)
[...] me in my New England setting. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take any pictures outside like A’s most recent shoot in Academichic Central, so you’ll have to use your imagination to see me in front of this red-orange [...]
What a pretty dress and I love the boots!
Love it – the blue/brown combo is stunning on you!
