So this week, we are reviewing analogous color combinations and triads. I often find myself swathed in various shades of blue and green and blue-green, so an analogous combination is not much of a challenge for me. But, an analogous combination on the warm side of the color wheel is a whole different story! I rarely wear red, orange, or yellow, and the purples I wear tend to have more blue than red in them. I have enough warm colored accessories (my red flats, fuchsia pumps, orange floral flats, yellow bangles, etc) to complete a triad or complimentary combination, but mixing warm color with warm color is still a true challenge for me.
I’m not too sure about today’s color combo. I think the right shade of red-violet with red could be quite nice, but I only had one red-violet top to play with. I considered doing a neutral shoe and wearing a red belt instead of the purple one, but the belt had too much orange in it.
I picked up this purple belt on super sale at Gap last year. I love the shade of purple, it’s skinny width, and the pleated leather details, but this is certainly not custom-fit belt! With this outfit, even the last whole left the belt hanging too loose, so I just pulled it rough the buckle and knotted it on the other side. I actually like the effect and it managed to stay in place all day.

I love this top on you! It perfectly frames your face, collarbones and arms!
I am probably more of a warm color person, though I have been really into green throughout my pregnancy. Though, there are warm greens, and I think I own them all.
Gotta agree, that top fits you like a dream :) The color is perfect for you too.
I’m definitely a cool color gal… purple, blue and teal ahoy! I am drawn to warm colors in small doses like shoes and accessories, though, quite possibly as a by-product of reading the color posts on here.
Well I’m not sure if it’s the top like the girls are saying or the general color scheme, but check out your eyes – they’re aquamarine!
Ahhh…I have that same skirt from O.N., and wear it with a lavendar polo, with a green tank underneath. I think the purple works well!
Love your purples. Colorwise, I’m basically a red-purple-blue-green person. I rarely hit anything past scarlet on the one end and lime on the other.
What a darling belt!
I’m pretty equal-opportunity when it comes to colors. I love ‘em all.
[...] my neutrals outfit (black, gray, white) and added touches of green and yellow for some interest. While A. voiced her reservations regarding warm color analogous schemes, I can say the same about cool color ones. I typically [...]
I’m definitely with you on the cool color side of the spectrum. I do like a pop of warm color but hardly ever do a full analogous warm color scheme.
The top looks great on you, and I love what you did with knotting the belt. I have a lot of belts that are too big because they’re meant to be hip-slung (with pants) and I’m definitely moving toward wearing my belts higher these days with skirts and dresses, so I’ll have to try knotting them! I’ve actually become quite good at punching new holes in belts, but I quite like the look and interest of your knot.
[...] appreciat that A. dressed out of her color-comfort zone the other day, and I admit that this outfit is pretty tame for me and I could easily wear this to work. Not all [...]
I am getting so much inspiration from you ladies this week and your fun color pairings. I tend to gravitate towards colors depending on my mood. I love combining different shades of blue, but when I’m feeling more daring I combine warmer shades. Maybe I’ll try that soon!
