As I mentioned yesterday, for the next five weeks, I am teaching every morning. In an effort to not default to the jersey dress too soon, I pulled out this floral blouse from Maurices.  I picked this out earlier this Spring when I knew we would be doing a week on florals.  It’s rather outside my comfort zone and, in fact, the first time I wore it, I felt like I was playing dress up as S.  I decided to give it another shot today and to try and make it feel a little more me.  I added the thick belt that picks up on the pink flowers and adds some structure and hardware to the ruffly sheer top (belt anything and it seems at least a little more me!)

Needing a break from lesson planning yesterday, I treated myself to an iced coffee and a little grooming. Every once in a great while (like once a year) I get my eyebrows waxed and then maintain them by tweezing. I’ve been itching to have them professionally cleaned up again and have heard several people swear by threading – including my little sister L.  L has fabulous eyebrows and I generally trust her advise, so I mustered up the courage and had my eyebrows threaded!  I have to tell you, I think I am a convert.  It was much less painful and didn’t leave my skin raw, red, and tingly. Just thought I would share a little grooming secret.  How about you? Do you have any grooming tips to share?

Thank you for passing along this grooming tip! I have to wax my eyebrows constantly and even recently my cheeks. Yowza is all I can say, although I finally found a good beautician. I’m going to have to ask her about this process!

    And really, really cute blouse!!

I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded for a while now, and it’s the only way to keep my caterpillars under control. Every time I’ve gotten them done, I’ve received so many compliments about them – wow! definitely in love with threading.

I think you’ve stumbled across one of the best-kept secrets of south-east asian women! But seriously, I love how its catching up with the general population and going mainstream now- I don’t have to drive 20 miles just to get my eyebrows done anymore. We even have an eyebrow parlor at the local walmart.

I love that top and NEED that Belt!!!

    Awesome outfit :)

  6. Bekah Mae says:

    Sweet belt! A fave!

  7. Alice says:

I love threading! I go every once in a while and get it done and just love it. My eyebrows are pretty small to begin with, but it makes me feel so much more professional to have that small amount of shaping done.

Love the belt with the blouse!

  8. Aleksandra says:

That floral blouse really suits you, even if you perceive it as being outside your fashion comfort zone. Another fab summer-on-campus outfit!

  9. Sophie C says:

Threading isn’t necessarily the magic bullet for perfect eyebrows. A lot depends on the skill of your beautician, and I would say to evaluate carefully. The biggest potential problem is that he/she may mess up the primary shape of your brows. The second potential problem is that you may be left with a bunch of nicks and cuts which lead to tiny scabs and scars. I have been to dozens to threaders in my lifetime :)

  10. Kathryn says:

That blouse is lovely. I’ve been wondering about threaders, maybe I’ll have to try it sometime.

  11. EvaNadine says:

this top is very becoming on you — i never would have guessed it was out of your comfort zone

  12. EmilyKennedy says:

That blouse is really pretty on you. I heard Tim Gunn claiming that patterns open up the possibilities in a wardrobe. That top is a great example of what he meant I think.

  13. Sally says:

So glad you gave that blouse another go – it looks smashing!

  14. A-C says:

I’ve wondered about threading too. Good to know that its not as obnoxious as waxing.

The belt really makes a difference in the proportions of the outfit. Looks lovely.

  15. Julie says:

    What a stunning belt! Beautiful.

  16. yup, I’m a threading convert too!

  17. Clare says:

Good grief, I love this outfit!!

And I’m happily reading to read through the threading article on Wikipedia, to find out what the heck it is!

  18. Unnati says:

Welcome to the club! I really do think that threading is the way to go. Shape comes out much better. Recently I learned (thanks to you tube) to thread myself. I can maintain for few weeks and save some money. I love your outfit! I would like to know what is office casual when it comes to shoes?

  19. You look so lovely here.

  20. Rachel says:

My new hair-removal discovery (!) has been epilating. I bought an epilator on recommendation from my friend. It was on offer and cost about the same as 4 leg waxing sessions at the salon. Apart from needing to use a product afterwards to stop ingrowing hairs, there’s no other costs or products needed( new razor blades, shave foam etc), and is cheaper than salon waxing. Shaving really irritated my skin – but I get no long-lasting redness or blotches after using an epilator. It’s a bit painful, but you get used to it.. for lovely non-bumpy smooth legs, anything!

Hair removal interlude over! I like the blouse, glad you are working on getting it to be more ‘you’.

  21. Elizabeth says:

LOVE this outfit! I think the floral balances really well with the structured form of the whole ensemble. Your hair looks great too!

  22. Amy says:

Fierce look! Love the ensemble, and thanks for the eyebrow trip – I should check it out. :)

  23. Oh, threading. I’ve always been a tad scared to try it… Love your top, btw.

  24. Angela says:

I love this outfit! Also, not only am I afraid of threading AND waxing, I’m also afraid of plucking anything other than my one unibrow hair. It’s really not that bad? Really? Maybe I can suck it up and put on my big girl panties…
