Endnotes:

For my last assignment for this week’s Fashion 101: Tights,  I took these patterned tights from E., send to her by her Mother-in-Law (thanks D.!).  I love the ensembles E. and S.  created this week featuring their brightly colored patterned tights, but still think I would have a hard time pulling them off.  Even these much subtler, almost monochromatic patterned tights are taking me well outside my comfort zone.

Often after a new haircut, I am feel a little more playful in my style.  So, I decided to take it and run with it and combine these whimsical tights with a full skirt, a tee with a bow, and even little bow earrings!  As I was adding all of these elements together, I was worried that it might be a little too whimsical altogether, but I think the black and grey palette keeps it age appropriate and sophisticated.

Are you embracing the patterned tight trend?  A.

Wow, you look great! This whole outfit has a really spunky feel to it. Everything goes together fabulously…your hair (so cute! I really love it), the tights, and the bow top. This is one of my favorite outfits that you’ve worn. :)

I love how the double buckle leather belt, that has a “bad girl” feeling to it, breaks up the girlish whimsical outfit. Also, the texture and movement of your haircut is just perfection… You are gorgeous!

I have to agree with Alisha (post #2)–this is too is my favorite outfit–love all the details also–the belt, the great earrings and especially your new hair–perfection!

I’m with you on the crazy tights thing… others may embrace them but I’m definately slow and steady. I like that these tights have pattern but are still neutral. Overall, with your new haircut, your swingy skirt and your fun top, you look amazing!

Wow A, this is one of my favourite outfits of yours ever. Seems more edgy than whimsical to me!!

This is a great outfit. The skirt is especially flattering–is this the universal perfect length? I think it is. And the tights are fab; embrace the tights!

Love the brown and black combo and that belt is just perfect! I have indeed embraced the patterned tights, mostly for “fun”/nonprofessional days, but I think the way you did it here could be appropriate for a very dressy occasion!

While I love tights that have a pattern in their knitting, I’ve never been big on the recent trends of multicolored or flower patterns, but you just sold me. This look is subtle and sophisticated. Amazing style!

    Hi!

I’ve been lurking for a couple of weeks now, but this is my first time commenting on your blog, which is just great and so inspiring! Where do you get all your ideas?

Being from Norway, where for some reason most fashion bloggers seem to be between 15 and 25 and more or less looking the same (basicially slim fit jeans or tights, over-knee boots and tunics/mini dresses), it’s truly refreshing to read a blog that focuses on creativity and personal style rather than just the latest trends and brands. Thanks, gals!

Those tights are a lovely way to do whimsical. Focusing only on the pattern and keeping the rest of the outfit in the same family of neutrals calls attention to the patterned tights without making them stand out too much.

Oh this is truly a winning look. I love how the palette is neutral, but the details (tights, belt, bows) add lots of interest and whimsy.

Pretty! Love the bow top as well. I might just DIY a shirt to look similar to your top :)

I love this look on you! It’s a change from your usual style and it’s awesome.

    Love the belt.

Patterned tights – I love textured tights (of all sorts) but I’m not quite sure yet about patterns… I just bought swiss dot tights, does that count?
