End Notes:
Baby e. and I are in New York for a few days, visiting my sister-in-law P. Mom-in-law and the two other sisters-in-law are here too, and we’re having a grand old time shopping, seeing the Whitney Biennial, catching a show on Broadway, eating excellent food, and just wandering about town. I had warned my sisters ahead of time that this week would be tights week at Academichic, and I knew that they would all have some great tights-based looks to share.
And I was right. Click through the jump for individual shots, details, and a gratuitous shot of baby e.
L. — who apologizes for her inability to keep her eyes open in pictures — wore a wonderfully rich, monochromatic outfit in eggplant and wine, with patterned tights adding a bit of depth and playfulness. I also loved how the cream scarf brought some brightness up by her face and served as the perfect transitional season accessory.

P.’s look — a blush colored blouson top, short black skirt, black floral lace tights, black booties, and a denim moto jacket — demonstrates how patterned tights can be sophisticated and sexy, not just quirky or funky. Her outfit was also something of a collaboration, since most of what she’s wearing is borrowed or adopted from other family members. But she makes it her own in assembly and wearing them all with confidence.

You may remember
H.’s lace dress from her graduation last May. I was so surprised when she pulled it out of her suitcase for a March trip to New York, but I think she did an amazing job of warming it up with a wine cardigan, gray tights, a black belt, and black boots. The lace is unexpected, but so fresh and she definitely stood out in the crowd.

And yes, I am wearing the same dress I wore in my
tights swap tutorial, but I really wanted to bring it to New York with me. I ended up going with my saffron pair of tights earlier, but I decided to use the patterned Celeste Stein tights for my New York visit. Boots for walking, a little gray knit blazer for warmth, and a pale, gauzy yellow scarf changed things up enough — I hope — from the dress’s previous incarnation.

There’s one more accessory all of the sisters and my mom-in-law have been passing around this trip: baby e. We’ve been taking turns wearing him in his Ergo carrier and he has been enjoying all of the sights, sounds, and smells that comprise this city. And, when it gets to be too much, we just pull his little hood up and he can go to sleep. So far, he’s taken naps in the Whitney Biennial, the French Connection, JCrew, and the C train. Way to be a good sport, baby e.

Great post! great to see some other style variations too. and oh, baby e! be still my beating heart – that last photo is just too cool!
So adorable! Baby e is too cute.
I loved all the tights, especially your sil’s black flowered one. Very fun.
I highly recommend going down to southstreet seaport! Its a little hub of the city right on the water and they have a bunch of awesome stores and its also where the NYC Bodies Exhibit is located!! If you haven’t been to one yet, its DEFINITELY worth the $30. Just as long as baby E can continue being a good sport!! I don’t really recommend that you eat there though.. there are so many other fantastic restaurants in the city. If you’re interested I could give you a list of some of my favorites – just give me a price range!
Just look at all those marvelous tights!
