End Notes:
This past weekend, husband N., baby e. and I tried to combat the winter blues by visiting our local botanical garden’s geodesic dome conservatory. It was green, humid, warm…perfect, really…with the added bonus of getting to see quite a few plants from my home state of Hawaii.

I purchased this vintage gold scarf — it’s a large triangle with a fairly open weave edged in fridge on two sides — several years ago as part of a costume for a period party I was attending. It hasn’t gotten a whole lot of use since then, especially since I narrow-mindedly tended to relegate my few sparkly clothing items to special occasion wear. But, in honor of scarf month, I dug it out and decided that it could, indeed, work for daytime, especially when paired when my admittedly unseasonable cream cotton skirt. (Don’t worry, there are two pairs of tights under there.)
I tied the scarf/shawl in the ascot tie that S. used a few days ago but since this scarf is significantly larger the end result has a lot more drape and drama.

I kind of felt like a sparkly cowgirl. And liked it.
I’ve challenged myself to wear this scarf again before the month is up, and I welcome suggestions on how to tie a big (say, 36″ at its widest) triangle into something fabulous.

This is literally one of my favourite outfits by you ever! It is so pretty and flowy and creamy. I love those boots as well- Steve Madden, of course.
I think costume pieces are wonderful as an addition to any wardrobe. I like this scarf very much.
The best accessory you are wearing is the smile in the last picture! What a great smile.
Lovely outfit and beautiful pictures! You look so happy and sunny!

Oh, it’s a gorgeous scarf, E! You could try tying it around your hips a la Stevie Nicks. Or as a shawl, and pin it to your shoulder.
I have a very similar scarf in silver that was my grandmother’s and have never figured out how to wear it. Thank you!
love the colour combo here!
Oh, SO beautiful! I love that scarf!!!
That’s beautiful! How about pair it with something printed?
Ooh, I know this one! Put the scarf over your head peasant style, but instead of tying under your chin, loosely cross the corners over and gently take them around to the back. Keep it all loosey-goosey. Tie the corner tips together (reef knot) at the nape of your neck, over the main body of the scarf (which is still on your head like a hood). Now slide the hood off and arrange it to cover the knot. This will give you a fabulous cowl-thingy!
Love this outfit!
That looks suspiciously like the Climatron in my town, STL. Love going there in the cold weather and pretending I am somewhere (near) tropical.
[...] don’t know what it is, exactly, but I am currently all about wearing this cream cotton skirt in the dead of winter. I can’t help it. It makes for such a dramatic silhouette and, really, with tights, socks, [...]
