February is Scarf Month!

February is Scarf Month!, originally uploaded by academichic.

I can’t speak for S. and E., but I have a scarf addiction, its worse than even my bag addiction!  I can say that all three of us love scarves and have rather large collections of scarves in all shapes, sizes, colors, patterns, and material.  You will often find us sporting a scarf (or two) tied around our necks or used in place of a belt, as head protection, as faux-blouse, or as bag accessorizer.   We belt them, layer them, knot them, and pin them.  We probably love scarves as much as we love belts!

So, we are declaring February “Scarf Month.”  We often get questions about how we tie our scarves or how we know when to add a scarf and in what colors.  For the next month we will be sharing all of our scarf tips, including great places to buy scarves, how to store your scarves, scarf tying how-tos, scarf DIYs, and a Fashion 101 on scarf styling.  Each Friday in February we will also be doing a scarf giveaway!
Let us know if there is anything in particular you would like to see us address in “Scarf Month” and don’t forget to check back this Friday for our first scarf giveaway!

Fun! I love scarves, I’d love to see more ways to layer them.

I just found your site after following your flickr photostream, and I read it “cover to cover.” I love the concept, that you’re 3 friends looking to spice up what you wear in what isn’t a traditionally fashionable field. I find myself in a similar situation–I work in finance and government, fairly conservative industries in terms of dress. I’m always looking for ways to add a little flair to my work wear. Anyway, I love your site and look forward to reading more! ~A.M.

  2. denizse says:

    I’m also a scarf addict!

  21. Barbara Watson says:

I’ve got scarves from 30 years ago. During my teaching days I loved the professional finish of a scarf. It has always been difficult to wear a scarf in my short hair so I’m interested to see if that challenge gets addressed. This month of posts will be most helpful. I’m sure you can teach this “old dog” some new tricks!

  22. Liz says:

I’m going to have to join you in on the fun! No really, I was thinking about this and think I either need to wear my scarves more or get rid of them! So if you don’t mind I’ll link to your blog and write about my own experiences wearing most of my scarves this month at lizzypunch.blogspot.com
Can’t wait to gain some inspiration from you lovely ladies!

  23. Wee I’m excited! I have just decided to add scarves to my styling adventures and I’m still in the dark as to how to wear them. I will be seriously stalking your blog this month, for sure. :)

  25. Laura says:

Oooo!!! I’m so excited now! I lurve scarves as well (wearing one now) and am looking forward to hearing all you guys have to say about them! I’m interested to see your storing tips because right now mine are just draped all over the apartment and I’m driving my fiance crazy! Scarves are just the best accessory! =)

  26. Julia says:

    Such cute photos!

  27. MKay says:

How ideas on things to do with square silk scarves? There are so many gorgeous ones at thrift stores..

  28. Tamia says:

I had absolutely zero interest in scarves until about two years ago, when I received a filmy purple scarf from a co-worker. I wore it on a whim one day, and I’ve been hooked ever since!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with…

  29. Ann says:

  30. Amanda B. says:

That is such an awesome idea! I’d love to see how to wear one of those popular oversized scarves without completely losing my neck.

  31. Alisha says:

Oh my goodness! You are the queen of scarves. Believe or not, I own not one lightweight scarf. I’ve been contemplating buying one, but I’m not sure where! I also don’t know how to tie them! Your tutorials will come in very handy, I’m sure.

  33. Susan says:

  35. T. says:

I have been seriously into scarves lately. Mostly I’ve been wearing the longer ones, but I would like to try smaller silk scarves, too, so I’d love to see if you three come up with ways to wear those.

  36. Chelsea says:

okay now I am just green with envy with your collection. getting excited for where to buy scarf tips :)

  37. Anne says:

Wow! Thanks for sharing all of those scarves – I’d like to show this to my husband as evidence that it’s perfectly normal to have a large scarf collection :) Mine’s not that big yet, but I’m always in the market for another good scarf!

  38. Ceri says:

I have a bunch of scarves I got from my Mother-in-Law after she passed. I have been wearing the rectangular scarves but I have no idea how to wear the square scarves. The square scarves are at least 3 feet long and fairly thick. If I fold them into rectangles they are at least an inch thick and very unwieldy. Any ideas how to wear huge scarves would be appreciated.

  39. ruco48 says:

What woman doesn’t love the feel of cashmere? There is something so sensual and luxurious about cashmere that most women are big fans of a cashmere scarf. The softness of a cashmere scarf around the neck or shoulders is pure luxury. Scarves can come in all different materials, but nothing really seems to compare to wearing one that is made of cashmere. If you are looking for something simple that can be worn everyday, then you may want to try the Pure Cashmere Scarf from Pashmina Boutique. This scarf is long enough to drape along your shoulders for a chilly afternoon, and is as soft as they come. You are also able to purchase one in several different colors, all of which are fairly neutral so they will be able to match with everything.

  43. [...] Academichic:  I’ve been following the chics for quite awhile now, and these ladies have fantastic senses of style.  I love seeing how each of the three chics expresses their own personal style, and they also write wonderful modules on color combinations and proportions.  I love it when they take on wardrobe challenges, such as only wearing flats, or using a scarf in every outfit.
