Endnotes:
This is what I wore for the first day of school on Tuesday. I was introduced to my students, had a meeting with faculty, and some campus walking to do.
peep toes and tights, originally uploaded by academichic.
Earrings, originally uploaded by academichic.I also premiered my new tote from T.J. Maxx. E and I took a little pre-first-day shopping trip to T.J. Maxx and Marshals, where we both found great deals. I’ve been wanting a tote to replace my NY China Town bag that fell apart earlier this year (after several years of almost daily use). I love my larger canvas totes but wanted something smaller and a bit more professional looking. I think the bright blue makes this youthful and stylish but the simple shape and faux leather construction allow it to function like a briefcase. For less than 20$, I think it more than fits the bill!

beautiful outfit! and that skirt = love!!
gorgeous! I think this is my new favorite look of yours!
Great color combo! I love the new bag too.
I would never have thought to put those two colors together but they look fabulous here, especially with the toned down accessories.
lovely!
Lurve lurve lurve!
so beautiful! and i adore orange with blue. my college colors :)
love the color combination, and that tote looks so elegant and fresh!
I’m in total love with this skirt and the color combo is fantastic!
Wow, A, the bright blue and cinnamon are dynamite together!
Beautiful outfit and I LOVE that bag!
You look so chic!! I agree with Julia–I think this is my favorite outfit of yours.
I love the BR jacket. I have the same one, but in brown. I’m not sure however how to pair it. I usually wear it on cas friday with brown boots and jeans. This week, I did wear it with a knee length jean skirt, cream top and brown boots. Sometimes it seems to dressy for my office though.
Love it! Was just debating buying that skirt, and seeing how great it looks on your has clinched my decision.
I love your outfit. That skirt is great.
You look great – so long and lean, especially in these pictures
You look great! The colour on the skirt is really lovely, and it is a great contrast with the blue cardi.
I love the bag, especially the color. That’s something I would love to carry to school, too.
I love this look A. You look professional and fun all in one. I have some serious skirt envy right now!
I just love this color combination — the cinnamon orange shade of the skirt is gorgeous and not as in-your-face with the royal blue that a true orange would be. So chic!
The tote is perfect. Carrying books and bundles of paper is the worst part of teaching, in my opinion; I’m inspired to look for a roomy-yet-stylish tote.
You look great, love the colors. Best of luck with the new semester…I start tomorrow!
wow, love this outfit and the blog! i am a ph.d. candidate in biology… and so i really can’t wear nice clothes during the day as i’m constantly around bleach and chemicals…
someday though! in the meantime i just build the wardrobe and work weekend wear ;-)
I love the color combo of this outfit. They compliment each other so well.
This is a stunningly beautiful combination of pieces: my favorite of your outfits so far!
Oh my gosh, I LOVE the color of that skirt!! I hope you had a successful first day!
I already had a soft spot in my heart for this color palette because I am an Auburn Tiger. But I honestly think this is one of the best outfits I’ve seen you in! So chic and flattering to your figure. Very professional too, of course.
I loooove this shade of orange with that blue top. You look so colorful and yet very sophisticated and well-pulled together.

I love the colors! The blue and orange with the grey and cream looks great. I also like many of the details, particularly the bag and the scarf and the earrings.
I saw this outfit today and I just had to tell you how cool it is!!!
I have a thick woollen cropped swing jacket courtesy of grandma’s closet, in a color that’s very similar to your skirt’s, and this ensemble will surely work as my inspiration to wear it sometime. Thanks!
