For our Friday Giveaway this week, we have a $20 gift card from Maurices, a “small town specialty store” offering on-trend pieces at very affordable prices. Even if there isn’t a Maurices location near you, you can still browse and choose from their impressive range of offerings online.
What could $20 at Maurices get you? A dramatic knotted belt or sweet polka-dot umbrella. Or, just about half off a lovely dress or belted knit blazer.

To enter, leave a comment telling us what you’d buy at Maurices with this gift card. For a second chance to win, leave a separate comment telling us what you’d like to see more of in Year Two of Academichic. Contest is open until Sunday at Midnight US Central Time. We will randomly chose a winner to announce on Monday. Good luck!

I love Maurices! There are so many things on my list. I would invest in a great dress. The Dot Double V Frame has caught my eye.
I would use the opportunity of a Maurices gift card to get something trendy that I wouldn’t normally buy, like one of the fitted plaid shirts or the wide corset belt.
I year two, I’d like to see your “shopping bags” from online stores. Your outfits are an inspiration, but I can never seem to find the pieces to make similar outfits in my own wardrobe.
I would buy the polka-dot cardigan, hands down. Acutally I am a frequent shopper at Maurices, so there is ALWAYS something I like! Their work pants are pretty awesome too!
I would love to see more creative layering ideas, pattern mixing, and I agree with Brooke- how about where to score some of the awesome peices you have?
That turquoise dress is very pretty so I might go for that, or the geo print dress.
Maurice’s looks cute, never heard of it. I think I’d want a colorful cardigan.
As for Year 2, I think you guys are doing a great job. I love seeing the outfits and hearing your thoughts behind them.
Wow, so hard to pick just one thing! I had never heard of them before, but I love their stuff!
I am obsessed with polka dots right now and sad that I don’t own any, so I would get the Dot Double V Framed Dress:
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844932
If I could splurge, I would also get the regular V Framed Dress:
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844787
http://www.ToilTroubleStyle.com
I think you guys are doing great, so for year 2, I would like to keep seeing what you guys can come up with in terms of academia-appropriate outfits that go beyond generic (which you are great at), because these translate well into things I can wear to my office :o)
Congratulations on your first year of blogging and thanks for the giveaway. Maurices has a BOGO 50% off on its jewelry- I could really make the $20 stretch there…I’d like to go in for the dove necklace (a bit out of my comfort-zone, but i’m trying out longer length necklaces this year), and a pair of earrings- I liked the twisted etched earrings. there’s a nice plaid scarf that I’d like to get as well.
For your second year, keep doing what you’re doing…. you ladies have a great sense of style and I love seeing new posts from all three of you. I’d just love to see you post everyday if possible.
I like their casual tops, like the paint burnout tee or the burnout hoodie.
For the next year, I really like when you show how you’ve adapted looks to your own wardrobe/body/sense of style (like A’s reworking of looks from J. Crew).
I would probably purchase the vortex vest because it’s a good casual and work look.
If I won the Maurice’s giftcard, I’d get a cute cardigan in a fun color. There’s a green one called “Parrot Green” right now that’s adorable. I’d never heard of Maurice’s until recently and they have some really cute things!
In Year Two I’d love to see some posts about shopping, especially online. Where do you find your best deals? I’d also love some more tips about thrifting since I know you all have found some great pieces that way.
For year 2, I can’t even think of what else I’d like to see because you’re doing such a great job as it is! I mostly read your blog as inspiration for work appropriate outfits that still look trendy (and also in my budget! Stores like Banana Republic and J.Crew don’t usually carry things I can afford so I’m mostly a Forever 21/Charlotte Russe shopper myself lol).
I’d never heard of Maurice’s before, so thanks for the intro. If I won, I believe I’d buy this cute little hot pink shirt. I am such a jeans girl and think this would look great with my favorite pair: http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844786
I would buy a new shirt for this spring! I love looking at your blog and all your ideas…Thanks….
This polka dot dress is amazing—I would put it towards it.
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844947
I love Maurices! Grew up with it and actually got a sweater for Christmas this year from there. I think I would probably go for a colorful sweater for work because I need some more color in my wardrobe!
I would have a terrible time deciding, they have such great stuff. I think I would most likely use it to buy a nice jacket or maybe a dress.
For year two, I would love to see more options for pairing things you wouldn’t normally consider. I think some of my favorite posts have been S when she is traveling and the crazy combinations she comes up with with such a limited amount of clothing. Maybe how to use the same piece of clothing different ways? I know we are all trying to cut back our spending and finding new ways to remix our current clothes would be so helpful!
I’d love to buy the tweed pants or the fluted skirt. So cute!
For year two, I’d love to see some hair tutorials and some ways to freshen up a wardrobe that must be uber professional.
Great blog!
I love the 3/4 Sleeve Ruffle Tunic! I wish there was a Maurices near me.
This year I’d like to see some more detail shots of each outfit.
I would buy some cute accessories!
I would love to see more pants on academichic! I’ve found that most fashion bloggers wear skirts or dresses, but my wardrobe is mostly pants.
I really LOVE the idea of winter whites (especially dresses!) but that’s a bit out of my normal comfort zone for this time of year. I’d use the gift card for the white cowl neck belted dress- just the push I need to try a winter white!
I love Maurices!
I would go for either the new Navy Trouser Pant (because Navy seems to have been obsolete for so long) or the Stripe Vest with Lapel. But it’s hard to choose. I love so much of their stuff.
I would totally buy the beaded tie-back dress! My boyfriend and I’s 5 year anniversary is coming up, and it’d be perfect to wear for the fancy dinner date we’re planning!
-Diana
I would love, too, would love to see more pants and casual wear. It seems many fashion bloggers wear mostly skirts and tend to post work wear. I tend to get so wrapped up in my work wear that I lose momentum with my weekend casual wear.
i recently re-discovered maurice’s, thanks to my sister. it’s her favorite store. i used to go to maurice’s in middle school for all sort of trendy clothes (at least what passed for that in the early nineties- big sweatshirts, stirrup pants, tapestry vests, and the like). now i love them because they carry such cute, affordable casual clothes that come in a wide range of sizes (which is helpful when you’re not quite plus sized and not quite regular sized.) :) i’ve been wanting to try this belt and scarf combo that you all do so well. so that’s what i would do with the gift card. thanks, academic chic!
oh, and for year two, i would be interested to see how you would put together outfits from different online retailers. polyvore.com provides a cool collage-like service to put everything together… overall, keep doing what you’re doing- you all are great!
I think I’d get the Studded Back Tee–business in the front, party in the back, and perfect for a night out with friends!
I love this parrot-green shirt, which I think would be a great pop of color under a blazer! Maybe it would be good for my upcoming postdoc interview!
I just discovered this site about a month ago, so it’s hard for me to think of something different for you to do since I’m always browsing through your archives when I have time. It’s all new to me. I do love the color tutorials, so maybe more tutorials would be nice!
This year, I’d like to see some more outfits with a particular focus, like interviews, teaching, special events.
Detail shots would be lovely too!
I’m fortunate to have a Maurice’s in my community, so I’m keeping all fingers crossed…
I love the black-and-white geometric vibe among the latest selection of dresses at Maurice’s. There are several of these dresses that I have my eye on:
The Diamond Pattern Belted Dress
The Geo Print Sheath Dress, and
The Dot Pattern Dress with Elastic Waistband.
Thanks, Maurice’s for this giveaway!
Congratulations on a success first year of Academic Chic. Your blog is a regular part of my day (ah, evening). As to your second year: I enjoy your outfit posts, of course, and I’d welcome hearing more about your academic lives. What’s entailed in what you do? What projects are you working on? Perhaps some posts on your view of education. These would help to bring the “academic” and the “chic” a bit closer together, and provide a fuller context to your fashion posts. Best wishes for a great second year!
I’d get the large buckle belt with patent trim, because you guys have inspired me to belt more of my outfits!
I would get the Plaid Printed Scarf – love that they took a classic print and really gave it an edge.
If I won the gift cert, I’d spend it towards one of their gorgeous dresses. I especially like the Beaded Tie Back Dress.
…Aaand for year two ideas, I’d love to find out how E. “skinnies” her jeans, since I saw reference to that a few times but could not find a how-to post.
I would go with anything plaid! I am lacking a good plaid in my closet.
I feel like it’s been a while since we have a Fashion 101 lesson, so I would love to see more modules in year 2. Happy (belated) blog birthday!
This coming year, I would love to see more of remixing wardrobe staples. What kinds of things can you not live without, and advice for how to shop so we too can find great classic items.
I would buy the Lurex long wrap sweater. I’m always looking for long sweaters to wear with skinny jeans! Great giveaway- I love Maurices!!
I would definitely buy that umbrella you linked to– mine just broke so I need a replacement, and those cute polka-dots would brighten up any rainy day!
What a great giveaway! I love the gray betti cuffed boots, which would be sure to keep my feet warm while still being stylish this winter. They also have a great jewelry selection; the beaded filigree necklace is really simple & classy.
I’d like to see more DIYs. The embellished tees by E were so inspiring!
I would love to see you all do a post on how your coworkers act toward you when you’re dressed up for work. Do they know about your blog? Do they read it? I get a lot of looks like ‘why is she all dressed up?”.
I’d get the Subtle Stripe Ruched Blazer, the 3/4 sleeve Belted Blazer, or the 3/4 Marilyn Top with Button Tab Detail for work. all very cute!
I’d get the ivory cardigan with the black patent belt — a solution to my wide-belt issues! It’s so cute. Now I’m dreaming of it paired with a tweed pencil skirt and boots…..
Oh man, I would put it toward a polka-dot ruffled blouse!
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844925
A friend of mine just wore something similar, with a pencil skirt and killer shoes, at our major conference, and she looked so sharp. I’ve been coveting sheer ruffly blouses ever since.
This year, I’d love to get more advice on finding the best deals on ebay. You all find so many good pieces, and I’m sure you’ve each got your own search-and-win strategies!
Also, regarding what I’d like to see more of: that post reminded me of something else I noticed at this conference. A lot of women in my field are not wearing suits but manage to look dressy and professional all the same. What do you all think about alternatives to suits? How do you put together an outfit for giving papers (or–gulp–interviewing) that doesn’t start with blazer + matching skirt/pants? Jackets are not kind to me because I’m busty, so alternatives are intriguing.
I’ve never been to Maurices, but I’m tickled to see that they have plus sizes. I’d totally snatch up their Sequin Trapeze Dress.
I’d buy a dress at Maurices, for sure. :-) And in Year Two of Academichic, I’d love to see more interesting skirt/top combinations. You guys already do that, but it’s one of the most challenging things for me. Dresses are wonderful and easy, but I don’t seem to know how to purchase the right tops or skirts or combine them well.
Oops, I combined my two answers! Hopefully you can ignore that and count me in twice anyway. :-) Thanks for the giveaway!
This year, I’d love to see a post about how your academic dress influences your relationships with friends and family outside of academic circles. Do you get razzed at for being “too dressed up” by friends that work in more casual environments? Do you find yourself being more dressy on the weekends then you might otherwise be? I’m curious to see if your experiences have been like mine.
Hmm I think I’d buy some fun accessories because this is definitely a part of my closet that needs some help. New accessories would help lengthen/diversify some of what I already have.
What fun clothes they have… I’ll have to find one near me. I would get this fun polka dot shirt – it would be so cute under a cardigan or a blazer or by itself in the summer! (http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3845029)
I just stumbled upon your site… it is amazing! Just what I’ve been looking for – I work in all levels of academics and so the way I dress if different whether I’m consulting with elementary teachers or faciliating a graduate level seminar. Your ideas will freshen up my choices so, just keept the diverse and fun combos coming!
So many items to consider! I’ve wanted a vest for a while so I think I’d get one of the striped vests…or perhaps a polka dot shirt.
I appreciate when you take a particular style and then experiment with it in different forms or take one piece of clothing and experiment with different ways of wearing it. I find I tend to wear the same outfits over and over out of my closet and these types of posts always get me to look at what I have with fresh eyes.
In Duluth, MN we don’t even have a Gap, but we DO have a Maurice’s. Go figure. I would spend the entire $20 on accessories to update my wardrobe for the Spring semester. I’d try to find a belt in a punchy color for sure.
When fashion magazines do winter clothing, it’s usually a joke. Three-quarter-length-sleeve coats? Peep-toe boots? Rakish fedoras? Sure they all look good, but will they really get me from home to office in sub-zero temps? You women are from the mid-west and can probably really school us in practical yet stylish solutions for the winter wardrobe. I want more of that in 2010!
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3754768
I love this necklace! I would definitely use it for jewelry. My entire jewelry stash consists of 3 necklaces and an engagement ring!
Love the umbrella!! The dot ruffle shirt is also calling to me. Apparently dots are my thing at the moment?
I also like the range of body shapes among the models.
What to see more of: hm, I like what you are doing now. Something I’ve been curious about is the size of your wardrobes. I hate packing and I move a lot, I also don’t have the patience to shop much and don’t live near thrift stores. Perhaps you could showcase your workshorse items that could work as a wardrobe just with a few accessories or accent items?
Personally, I love the Pindot Fedora; it would look so cute with my red winter coat.
However, if I won I’d give the gift card to my sister-in-law. She needs new work clothes but has an unemployed husband. And she loves Maurice’s!
I always love to see how you pack for trips. Your posts last year inspired me to pack a bunch of coordinating clothes for my Christmas trip home instead of planning disparate outfits for each day. (And it turned out really well!) Ya’ll just need to take more vacations!
I like the packing for trips idea. Also, and this might sound hokey but it could be fun, I’d love to see color-themed outfits and each of your different takes on them. I’m sure you guys would get creative!
I would get this Lurex Long Wrap Sweater in grey http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844958 .
I’ve been looking for a long grey sweater to dress down my otherwise really fancy violet dress. This is perfect :).
I’m going with the first thing that really caught my eye, this sleeveless cardi wrap. I think it could have a lot of potential as a piece in my closet. I think I could get a LOT of wear out of it. http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3832978
I think I’d like to maybe see some more remix things. You all do a good job of showing different versions of an outfit. I know I’ve seen repeat items, but maybe a mashup showing the ways to wear your skinny pants, or a certain skirt? I also think some themes every now and again would be fun. Perhaps one day you all three decide to wear a high waist skirt and cardigan and then we get three varied perspectives on one look. Instant inspiration! you guys are great though. I love your site.
I think I would get the Striped Vest With Belt. It’s feminine, cute for work, but not excessive for my flip flops and hooded sweatshirt appropriate office.
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844910
The Antiqued Pearl and Flower necklace would be the perfect thing to spice up some of my plain shirts.
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3754768
As far as what content I would like to see on the blog, I think it would be great if you took more reader emails about what to wear to a certain event and turned them into mini-lessons. I think you’ve done this or something similar to it before, but those are helpful, and I’d love to see more of them!
A plaid shirt or that knotted belt are definitely the top of my list.
I would definitely invest in a dress! They’re so pretty. The color block dress or sequin bubble dress have caught my eye… :)
For year 2, I would love to see more tips for people who want to put more outfits together with the clothes that they have. Perhaps add more pictures of the inspirations that you imitate when you think about putting things together.
I would definitely put the gift card toward that knit blazer! I love the way fitted jackets look, but my active lifestyle (I’m a middle school teacher and mother to two young chidren) usually leads me to pick bypass them since I find most to be restricting. This soft, knit style would be TOTALLY workable for me!
The “Long Sleeve Button-Up with Pintuck Details” would be a cute addition to my wardrobe. Thanks!
I may be in the minority on this, but an ocassional feature on how the academichic do/would dress their children would be super cool. this would be specifically for e. right now, but i’d love to see what a fashionable, practical mom does with clothes for her son without spending oodles on boutique lines. i have an 18-month-old son, and i’d love some inspiration for him outside of polos and jeans!
Gosh I love the knit dress with elastic waistband shown here: http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844945
Seems like it could be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. And I love the high waist and the beautiful green top.
Ooh, I love their ballet flats; I would probably go with one of those!
I would love to see more on proportions this year. It looks like you started working on it last year but didn’t take it as far as you had maybe originally planned. I’d love to see more of this, because I personally think it’s the secret to dressing well.
I would get the Scoop Neck Tank Top in Purple Clover – I’ve recently realized that most of my tank tops are ribbed, which I think limits their versatility, so I’m trying to stock up on tanks of the non-ribbed variety. Plus, purple is my confidence color! I would also get the 5 Pack of Dressy Headbands, as I have found headbands to be a simple and cheap way to up the style of an outfit.
As far as what I would like to see more of… Maybe your routines? Make-up routines, certain facial products you use. I would like that!
I think it would be fascinating to see what outfit combinations you try before we see the final product. Some days I can clearly plan out in my head what I want to wear, I put it on, it looks fine, and off I go. Other days I have to try on several different things before I’m satisfied. I really appreciate seeing how all of you remix items and I think the outfit revisions are a splendid idea!
Oooh I love the Knit Hooded Jacket with Button Details. I’d get that. So cute!
In year two of Academichic, I’d love to continue to see great lookbooks, and more of E’s DIY projects! I loved those embellished Ts :)
I would love the Sophie Lined Loafers! They look super nice and comfy, although probably all wrong for Seattle weather! lol
http://maur.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMAUR1-7075818venh.jpg
I would love to see more emphasis on accessories! I feel like that is where I falter and I know they can totally make an outfit! I always think your accessorizing is great and you’ve opened me up to the world of etsy.com! Love it :) Keep up the good work!
I would like to get the V Neck Kanagroo Pocket Dress
I’ve never heard of this cute store. I do love a lot of their pieces but I think I would buy this cute polka dot dress:
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844932
Dot Double V Framed Dress
Thanks for doing this great giveaway!
I’ve never heard of Maurices’s, but it seems like a fun store. I would use to gift certificate to buy a fun accessory: maybe a belt, a trend I’ve never mastered.
For Year 2, I would like to hear more about how your clothes make you feel: which pieces are your “power” pieces, how does your mood affect your color choice and visa versa, what pieces or styles feel the most “you”.
I think I’d buy the button-down tunic with the pintucks. I have a long white button-down that I’ve worn almost completely out! It’s a great layering piece.
In year two I’d love to see more modules on working with your proportions and making trends fit your style. Both of those in year one helped me a lot!
This giftcard would be the nest egg for the “grey ruffled and belted blazer” fund. Or perhaps I’d be purely pragmatic and purchase a pair of black pants, which I desperately need.
I would be interested in more info about shopping… where you shop, how you find your pieces, especially the stuff you thrift. I have a hard time finding interesting things, much less knowing how to put them together!
I love the Color Block Dolman Top and the orange Plaid Shirt with Yoke!
I’d love to buy a new dress there to get ready for spring!! (it’s cold here in the Midewest)
Also, next year I’d love to see more ways to re-mix and how to’s on keeping ones’ wardrobe looking fresh!
I would get two of this cardigan: http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844854 … one in each color!
I really love seeing budget-friendly and DIY wardrobe options on you guys, I guess I’d like to see more of that!
I would get this green cardigan http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3845012 because it follows my rule of three – I can already think of three ways to wear it! 1. over a black dress, with textured tights and boots. 2. with a lace cami, cute jeans and heels. 3. with a black pencil skirt, collared shirt and swapped-out belt (black.)
I love Maurices- I’d probably use the gift card to find either a great fitted plaid shirt, or a casual dress I can wear all spring. Those are the two things I’m really lemming right now :)
Amanda
Oh, and I’m with the others- I’d love to see more wardrobe remixes! With a student budget, it’s sometimes impossible for me to buy new stuff so I’m very much inspired to mix my old stuff in new ways.
Amanda
As for year two, I agree with other commenters on hearing more about where you shop and how you thrift.
I have my eye on the Belted Blazer with ruffles, but now I also can’t get that polka dotted umbrella out of my mind. :)
The two-strand necklace and/or multi-circle long necklace. I love their jewelry.
As for what I’d like to see more of in Year Two, I really enjoyed A.’s recent “outfit recreation” post, and I’d love to see more of these!
I’ve been working really hard to lose weight, so I would put the gift card towards a new par of jeans in a smaller size!
I’d get the Pearl Trimmed Cardigan.. so cute!
I would most likely get a belt or pair of shoes that is different from what I have now. I have been really inspired by you to try new things and move outside of my comfort zone. I haven’t done much with belts, so I want to give that a try.
As for this new year, I am really bad with color coordination and putting appropriate patterns/styles together, so if you could say something about that I would love it.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway! If I won (!), I would probably get one of the multi-colored flowered necklaces — so pretty!
For year two, I would really like to see some more DIY projects — those are really fun. That said, I’ve had a great time reading your blog this past year.
I would get the antique pearl & flower necklace and the colorful multi-bead necklace. I need some new jewelry!
On a side note, I have been reading your blog for most of the year and am a huge fan. I decided to de-lurk to say happy anniversary! Looking forward to another year of your fabulous style.
I like the long sleeved Emma.
For Academichic Year 2, I would love to get some ideas about how you each put together a cohesive wardrobe. I always find myself with “wardrobe gaps” and wonder how you each deal with that. I seem to end up buying pieces that don’t work with what I already have in my wardrobe. I’m getting better but would love some tips.
I would love to get my hands on some boot cut jeans from Maurices.
I’d definitely get one of their button-downs for layering, like the one with pintuck detailing (so cute!) or with contrasting stitching.
As for what to see in year two, I’d like to get a peek into your dressers and closets, since I wonder how you organize all of your clothes. Or maybe just some organizing tips? That would be great, too.
I would love to get a great pair of jeans.
For year two I’m looking forward to seeing how you use the same pieces in different ways.
Perfect! I LOVE Maurices! They have such great stuff and even on my limited budget I am able to be in style. And, their jeans have the best fit! I live in Maurices Denim! With a giftcard, I would most likely grab some jeans, dress pants or a few funky pieces of jewelry!
What would I like to see more of? Hmm… well I really enjoy the DIY projects you all have been showing us, so please- keep it coming!
I would buy this if I won the Maurices’s gift card!! http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844826
As for year 2 on this blog, I would like more thrifty tips. How to find clothes for cheap, shopping deals, etc.
I would buy the long wrap sweater. I don’t think I would buy it normally, but if I had a giftcard I would.
I adore Maurice’s. It’s the one place I can always go into and find something I love, without fail. They also have a wonderful plus-size collection, that really fits with the style of the straight-sized clothing without compromising proper fit. Since I straddle the straight-plus divide, a stop at Maurice’s is in order any time I go looking for clothing.
What I really need right now, though, is jeans, and I would LOVE to be able to get them there! I’m getting ready to start grad school, and my wardrobe is lacking in semi-casual items–I have very little in the range between business-casual and utter slob.
I would get the Emma top with braid front in Turqoise.
I have my eyes on a couple pairs of sunglasses at maurices. Stylish but affordable. I refuse to pay for designer sunglasses – too much pressure. …w/ the gift certificate, I could get one and have some change left over, even! :))
Thanks as always for doing this.
teri
I’m moving to the Middle East at the end of the month, so the Sketchy Plaid Henley would keep me both cool and modest.
For my second comment, I would love to see more “pics from the street” ….well, the academic “street” that is.
perhaps you could showcase some of your fellow graduate students who have a great sense of style –with their consent of course. :))
regards..teri
I would buy this awesome hooded blazer http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3844919
Not only will I look casual chic while teaching it will also keep my ears warm on the way home.
I would love a nice, fitted blazer. Something classic and professional.
I would love to get this cute headband:
http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3754490

dailydoseofdana.tumblr.com
Ohhhh, I’d probably go for the V-neck cardigan with the tie belt, orrrrr the plaid twill jacket.
I’m a big fan of the Orchid boot-cut jean; I stock up whenever I visit my parents, since there are no Maurices in my area.
As far as what I’d like to see more of in the blog, what about some entries dealing with regional differences in style (maybe with some guest bloggers in different areas of the country/world) and differences in style based on field of study.
I would probably get some new jewelry I am in desperate need!!
What I would like to see on year two would be how to vintage shop!!
I would LOVE to have their geometric pattern shift dresses! I like the border style with its splash of color for bit of excitement, but the black-and-white one is calling to me also.
There are a couple of things I would like to see in year 2, although I think you guys have done fantastic job so far! I would be interested in a discussion of the relationship between skin and hair color and color in outfits. What colors do you feel you can’t wear and how do you incorporate them into wardrobe anyway? I also found your discussion of body proportions very helpful as I start to build my own professional wardrobe (I’m graduating college in May) and I’ve picked up quite a few style tips from you ladies. I would eagerly read anything else you have to offer on how to develop a style for a particular body.
I’d totally get the Betti slouch boots. Booties are a trend I’m not sure I can rock, so I’d love to try them out without a huge investment!
Love the Short Sleeve Pointelle Cardigan Wrap. I have a few sundresses that need a bit more cover. And how cute would it be with jeans? Simple and sweet. =]
I would love to see more “how-to’s” such as, how to layer (i love the look, but whenever i try it myself, i fail terribly!) or how-to wear skinny jeans!
I loved everything, especially the black knit pants. Chic and comfort, what else would a woman want!
Ladies, you are doing a wonderful job already. Academichic is my style inspiration. I am in southern californai and would love to see more casual and beachy styles for summer. Keep up the good work!
I’d go for the corset belt. I’ve been on the lookout for one for a while, and their corset elastic belt would be perfect!
I love your blog, so I don’t think it needs any changing! However, someone already mentioned this, and I would definitely approve: More how-to posts. I’m pretty fashion illiterate, and your how-to posts are extremely helpful.
From Maurice’s I would buy one of their vests! I’ve been wanting to buy one for a whlie now and this would be the perfect opportunity!
Holy Cow! One of the few stores that my small town has is a Maurices. I’m in the middle of a weird in-between life stage. I’m graduating from college in May, starting a professional internship next week, applying to graduate school, looking for ‘big girl’ jobs and balancing all this with being a mom. Most of the clothes I’ve found at Maurices allow me to dress appropriately for all these roles. There is a beautiful purple plaid button down. I could wear it alone, layer it under a sweater or another top.
I love your blog already, but I would love to see some posts on outerwear and hats! Do any of you ladies wear hats (for warmth or fashion?) I love hats, but often don’t know how to wear them, and I would love to see your take on it.
I love all the DIY posts and would love to see more. I think my favorite post was the embellished t shirt post.
I would get a new dress for work from their “wear to work” line. They are cute and look very functional and comfortable.
I would like to see more of “how to” match skirts with boots for the winter season.
Since I would have to shop online, I would most likely shop in the accessories department because I don’t really like to buy clothes online. I would love to get more belts for my wardrobe, especially after reading this blog. It seems I am belting an outfit a couple times a week now!
I think all of you are doing a fantastic job so far with this website! I’d be happy to see more DIY posts from you since I love making things unique and my own. Also, what types of handbags are you sporting with your outfits? I want to see more of those, too!
I’d love to win this giveaway if only because I had never heard of Maurice’s until discovering the wonderful world of the fashion blogosphere, and now I am hearing the name everywhere! After checking out the site, I can think of several things I’d like to use this giftcard on!
*crosses fingers*
If I were to win the Maurice’s gift card, I would defitely go for the Madden Girl sesame low cut boot. Aren’t they cute? They are calling my name!
This year on Academic Chic, I’d like to see more of a focus on footwear. As a fellow academic, I cover many miles on a daily basis, and i’d love some more cute, comfortable footwear options!
I love Maurices and would get another of their great lace trim camis for layering.
As for year 2 ideas. Loved the piece on traveling with minimum items and showing your mixing ideas. I have to travel for work and this has helped me greatly. Please do it again!
I would buy a ruched skirt with belt they have.
With a gift card I would buy some accessories, probably the corset belt and the ziz zag scarf. I also want the knot belt, hmmm. And the cowl neck sweater dress.
Year 2 @ academicchic – I would like to see more pieces on translating runway trends to academic wearable. I also like posts on updating basic/thrifted items to match the trends.
I would love to get their Mandarin collar top…
I would get the long sleeve pintuck shirt. Thanks! tzappile@gmail.com
I’ve always like Maurices, and the Marled Yarn Cardigan looks cute and cosy!
The Emma top in purple is gorgeous!
As for year 2, I’d love to see an entry on tips for thrifting- you guys seem to have such great finds, and it’d be great to hear a bit on how you do it!
[...] Many of you have asked about thrifting and vintage buying tips when responding to our question of what you would like to see more of in Year Two of Academichic. I am definitely no voice of authority on the subject of vintage, but I do love thrifting. I love [...]
Although this is a blog about dressing in academia, I understand that S. and A. are both runners.
I, too, am a runner, and wonder if it would be possible to do a small post on running wear?
