Happy Birthday, Academichic!

One year ago today, we posted our first Academichic outfits and thus began a journey that took us closer to discovering our styles, exploring our creative sides, strengthening our friendship, and engaging with hundreds of insightful and stylish readers who visit our site and add tremendously to it with their comments and input.
It has been a crazy year for us: E. made it through her pregnancy and was blessed with a beautiful and healthy baby boy (baby e.); S. got married and moved to Germany; S. and A. ran a marathon; and A. undertook a plethora of home improvement projects and hosted E’s beautiful baby shower in her backyard. Throughout all of this, we shared pictures, outfits, and small glimpses into our lives with you and you rewarded us with constant feedback, helpful suggestions, and an overwhelming amount of support and enthusiasm for all our endeavors. We heard from fellow academics going through similar life-work balance struggles and we connected with fellow feminists eager to challenge the assumption that style and intellect are somehow at odds. It has been an amazing year and we are so thankful to you, our readers, for having made this journey such a blast! Thank you and Happy Birthday, Academichic!
Over the course of this week, we will each look back at the year past and choose some of our favorite outfits to share with you. Check back for some of our highlights this week and stay tuned for more giveaways, more guest posts, more outfits and more DIY projects in Year Two of Academichic. We’re kicking off the year with our first giveaway this Friday, so be sure to enter!

Happy Birthday! It’s been so fun to admire all your outfits. And the remixes really make me step back and consider how many ways articles of clothing can be recycled in different outfits.

Not a day goes by that I don’t find inspiration in your unique and sophisticated styles. E’s pregnancy and post-pregnancy style did so much to keep me inspired during my own pregnancy and post-pregnancy wardrobe adventures. Many thanks for all your insights…happy birthday!

Happy Birthday! And thanks! Your blog inspires me like no other fashion blog I’ve ever seen. I think about you all the time as I try to challenge myself to braver and more interesting color and style combinations. Have a great year… and of course a good semester. Happy Anniversary, academichics! I follow your blog since its second week, and it has become a favorite!
I’m glad last year was so full of achievements for the three of you, and I’m glad that you’ve opened a space to share a lot more than those fun, interesting and -indeed- academic debates on style.
I’m sure lots of readers had some particular thing going on in their lifes that related to yours. For me, the most important ones are: starting to bike-commute as a way of life, together with trying a little vélocouture (even if I have not yet dared riding in a skirt); getting my masters and a resulting promotion at the university I work in (this year I’ll start teaching!); and, of course, trying new colors, shapes and outfits from my particular social and personal position: a young woman and sociologist, who loves bikes, academia, and fashion, among many other things.
My best wishes for the year to come.
