Endnotes:
I haven’t started back to teaching yet, but I did have my first on-campus meeting of the semester today and was grateful to have a good excuse to wear something other than jeans or a denim skirt.
In celebration of Academichic’s Birthday, I decided to try to recreate one of my looks from year one, with a few alterations.  I loved this analogous paring of royal blue and purple and the way the brown and navy balanced the whole look.  I switched my old favorite cardigan for this new longer purple cardigan and brought the navy in through a new favorite accessory of mine – the belted scarf.

Looking back at the past year of outfit posts, I was pleased to see that their where quite a few I still liked – some exactly as I wore them.  For others, I liked the concept behind the ensemble but didn’t necessarily love the execution.  I think in year two, I will challenge myself to occasionally return to an outfit previously worn and recreate it.

Which version do you prefer?  Year one or year two?  A.

  1. I love both iterations, but I have to say I think this year’s is especially amazing! I hope that you ladies will consider taking part in our Virtual Conference on First Day Finery over at Fashionable Academics! You three always look so sharp!

  2. Allison K. says:

I too like them both, but I think I like this year’s a little better!

  3. Sally says:

They’re both lovely, but I feel like this year’s iteration is a little more sophisticated!

  4. J. says:

While I love the purple sweater from the original outfit, the updated outfit looks so classy. Plus, I just identify you with scarves now, and it’s a little odd seeing you scarfless!

  5. Luinae says:

The belted scarf look is perfect for you- this year’s!

  6. k says:

I think I’m leaning toward the new version – I really like the thicker belt and the scarf. I think too the new purple cardi is a richer tone that goes well with the brown accessories.

  7. Allison says:

I think the new one– the top has more “depth” to it with the scarf and thicker belt. Also, the deeper V with more white showing draws the eyes up and lights up your face more.

FYI– you guys inspired me to try the belted-scarf look for the first time! Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been using it more and more as my go-to.

  8. I like the proportions of this year’s outfit better.

  9. Millie says:

Hmm! I like the colour of the cardigan in year one, but the scarf adds a lot to to look. Year two is more.. harmonious? The elements match a bit better, I think, so another vote for year two!

  10. Joanna says:

This year. Definitely more balanced (with the weight of the scarf vs. the narrow belt) and chic.

  11. Desiree says:

I think I prefer year two. I think the colors are more harmonious with each other. Although, they are both beautiful.

  12. Angela says:

You’re really working it Year Two style! Very sophisticated.

  13. EmilyKennedy says:

OK, don’t be mad, but I think I prefer Year 1. Here’s the part I don’t want you to be mad about: I don’t like the belted scarf. I have seen it catch on like wildfire, but I think it does such unfortunate things for the general chest, neck, shoulders region. Oh well, I like the colors and the boots, and all that jazz, and really what’s important is that YOU like it.

  14. Clare says:

They’re both great, but I think year 2 takes the cake!

  15. MK says:

I like the proportions of year two (wider belt, longer cardigan, especially with the length of that skirt), but I really love the brighter purple with the blue in year one. So, some of each.

  16. Mitzi says:

    Love your hair!
