Yesterday was a snow day! This doesn’t actually mean all that much for me since the university hasn’t started back (they never have snow days anyway), but A2 was off, so we made the most of it. We stayed inside in PJs all morning before getting dressed and heading to an afternoon movie. Afterward, we picked up E., N., and baby e. from the airport – all in all, a good day.
I stayed warm in this new (8$) sweater and one of my many new Christmas-gift scarves!
Scarf, originally uploaded by academichic.A while back, in a post about her own tattoos, Sal asked Already Pretty readers what about their appearance was theirs alone? Many readers wrote in listing things they wore that might not be considered fashionable but that they love anyway. Right away I thought of my Danskos! I love these shoes! They are so comfortable and I think they are attractive too – I love the way they look with my new jeans. I have worn these for years and years – I had them well before I could even imagine myself in a pair of pointy-toed heels and well before I embraced tucking skinny jeans into boots. Danskos are also one of the many things S. and I quickly bonded over when we first met.
I imagine I will wear these Danskos (or a replacement pair) forever! In Sal’s words: They are all “mine” so “what’s yours?” A.

I love the print on the scarf, and your Danskos are such a pretty color!
Thanks for the shout-out, A! SO many folks wrote about personal attributes, too: Hair, noses, even eyebags. An amazing array of responses. I love that your Danskos are a tiny piece of unrelinquished self.
I have and love a pair of giraffe print Danksos-they are awesome, if I do say so myself. I like the red you have too! But I would really love to know how you tied your scarf? Is it just a knot? It looks great. I’ve been getting more into scarves and need some fresh ideas how to tie them up.
I love Danskos too! I went to college in New England, and they are fairly popular in that regioin. I took a chance and invested in them when I started working a job that required me to stand all day. I’m so glad that I did, and I have invested in several other pairs as well. I love them even though most fashionistas consider them horrific. When you have to stand on your feet all day, I want comfort!
My favorite pair is the exact same that you have- the red cordovan. :)
you’re clogs are great (although coming from a scandinavian family who wears them all the time, i might be biased!). i actually haven’t had a pair in a while, but you’ve got me reconsidering it.
no, dansko’s have to be stylish! I am on my 3rd pair and i love them so much. I have the red pair you have, and a black mary jane pair.
I love this outfit! Something about it just really rocks!
Hey! Danish clogs! I remember getting a red pair as a little girl from my grandparents, but then they were confiscated by my parents because they supposedly were unhealthy for my little child feet… :(
For some reason they never godt back into fashion here in DK, but I have an Aussie friend who’s also completely hooked on the Dansko’s
By the way, the name means “Danish shoes” :-)
Ahhhh Danskos! I get such grief about my collection of clogs. But some days, no other shoe will do! They are my go-to shoe without a doubt. Especially as a professor, sometimes we have to move quickly, and freely from place to place.
You look lovely (as usual) and I almost bought that scarf!
I think you should definitely wear what you love. however, it’s a nice bonus when the things you love also happen to be fabulous and fashionable. and you might almost be in that place because (allegedly) clogs are coming in for spring. it stands to reason that once Karl Lagerfeld is doing something, it’s only a matter of time before it filters down to the masses.
My “thing” is my collection of big rhinestone right hand rings. I get a lot of compliments on them, but I had a friend mention that if SHE tried to wear rings like that it would look right. She told me, ‘You are going to be that little old lady that wears a huge ring on every finger and its going to look fabulous”.
Ok, so I have a question..about your photography. How in the heck do y’all get such great shots of your outfits?! I try taking photos with my camera on a tripod and a self-timer. And the photos usually come out out of focus or the detail is lost to get a full body shop. Any pointers?
Two things: I have the same scarf but in the blue/green/purple-y combo. And I am so with you on the Danskos topic. Not that I have them or love them… just that I have things that I’m attached to fashion-wise that other people don’t consider fashionable or at all stylish. Yea!
Thank you for validating Danskos! I have multiple pairs and, like you,I have many days no other footwear will do…
I claim all comfort footwear as “mine”! I walk quite a bit, so I am always buying comfortable shoes, like Dansko, Born, Merrell, or even Birkenstock. I need to be able to move. Ninety percent of my shoes permit me to walk long distances. I may not always look stylish from the ankle down, but hey, that’s me!
I just got a pair of clogs – my first since university and I love, love, love them. Especially with jeans but with skirts too.
Thanks for reaffirming their value publicly -they’ve been getting an undeserved bad rep.
Also – nice outfit!
I’m with you on the Danskos. I got my first pair 8 years ago with my first ever paycheck and they have been worth EVERY penny. I have worn them just about everywhere – for hours and hours on my feet at work and while travelling. I just got a new replacement pair for Christmas (same color as yours) – the workmanship is not as great now (they are made in China, my originals from 8 yrs ago were made in Denmark), but still comfy and stylish, me thinks. I’ll be a dansko girl for life too, it seems.
Just discovered your blog – totally rocks. Keep up the great wrok.
Add me to the clog love! I just wore my Sanitas around a conference; they were comfortable and appropriate. They always look like such scholarly shoes–I see them all the time on women in academia, and a particular sort of woman in academia: practical with a bit of a creative edge. There are worse things to aspire to, right?
I totally agree with you. I LOVE my Danskos even though my Mom, Sister, and most of my friends hate them and choose to wear spiky heels over clogs. You know what? I like being unique and comfy so, cheers to Dansko clogs! They are awesome and personally, I like the interesting curve of the shoe as well. I just hate that I can’t wear mine in the snow, I’m afraid I’ll ruin them :(
