Happy Birthday, E! It was actually E. who first suggested we dress in A. inspired clothing on A’s birthday and then E. and A. continued the tradition and ‘dressed up‘ as me on my birthday, so now it’s only right that we finally pay tribute to E. on her special day. As this little tradition conceived by E. suggests, she’s wonderfully creative, clever, and imaginative like that. E. never ceases to inspire me with her flair for making things special, making them her own, and having fun with whatever tasks she’s set out to do. E, I hope you have a wonderful and imaginative birthday celebration that does you justice!

As for my E. inspired outfit, I knew I had to rock the skinny jeans. E. was the first of the three of us to embrace this look and I always envied her ability to pull it off. It took a while until I mustered up the courage to buy my first pair of skinnies (these ones) and I don’t know if I would have even dared had I not seen E. rock look after awesome look of skinny jean flair.

I also love E’s ability to play with proportions and mix the slouchy with the fitted. When I think of E’s style, I often think of slim fitting skinny jeans or cigarette pants mixed with looser cropped jackets or slouchy sweaters – the perfect juxtaposition of cuts. She’s also a master of the color block mix, so I paired my bold fuchsia top with a bold turquoise tank and added a purple necklace.

Lastly, I had to finish the outfit with my yellow pumps because we all know how E. loves a good colored shoe. E. has often mentioned the power of a good colored shoe to pump up the most simple of outfits and she’s also the one who first introduced me to the power of the patterned flat.

E., as you know by now if you read this blog, is one stylish lady and I’ve been inspired so many times by her to take my style up a notch or to experiment with shapes or items I would have likely shied away from. I wish you a wonderful and stylish year to come, E., and wish I could be there to celebrate with you and A. in person! Happy Birthday! S.

  13. [...] Like S., I think of E. in slightly cropped skinny pants and a swing coat slouchy, cardigan, or bloused tee.  I was also inspired by E. to buy a pair of skinny jeans, and eventually start wearing them paired with something other than chunky boots and a long tops.  But, I also think of E and the master of the dress (particularly the jersey dress).  I was taking style clues from E. long before this blog started and I think the most important look I have taken from E. is the day dress. I bought my first jersey dress (this black one) with E.’s help and that was only the beginning! (E. also hemmed this blue dress for me). E. Birthday Tribute, originally uploaded by academichic. In my mind E’s signature look is the cardigan layered over the jersey dress.   She has worn this look over and over, while always keeping it fresh and interesting. In one of her first posts for Acadmichic she layered two jersey dresses over a wool skirt and then topped the whole thing off with a chunky cardigan.  I thought it was genius!  So this is a tribute to E’s love of the day dress.  I also adore E’s color blocking and the way she can elevate any ensemble with the addition of purple tights! What an awesome tribute to E.! Definitely captured her aesthetic. I love palette in the color blocking, it’s so bright and cheery! The beads add an extra fun touch, too. I found some beads like that which belonged to my grandmother that I’m now definitely going to have to try soon after seeing this!
