Today I administered the final exam for my students. Apparently, this pink pinstriped shirt says “exam time” to me, as I just remembered I wore it for last semester’s midterm too. I think I like it because its professional in style but a little more fun because of the bright pink. I have been wanting to wear my black sweater vest again and apparently great minds think alike – S. and I both thought of the button down/vest combo.
I layered the pink button down over a black henley so I could roll up the sleeves but still have a little extra warmth for the cold day and the cold classroom. I like the line of tiny buttons created by the three buttoned tops.
Buttons, originally uploaded by academichic. But my favorite part of the outfit, is by far these earrings. They were a gift from a professor I was a TA for years ago. I love wearing them with preppy professional looks as a surprising twist.

That just looks cozy and warm and lovely! Would not have thought about wearing a henley under the buttondown – but then again, I live in California, and we don’t layer. We wear shorts with Uggs to keep warm. =P
I think you’ve suceeded brilliantly in looking professional and fun. Love the earrings!
Those earrings are a great way to let your students know that you have your eye on them while they take the exam ;-). Love the layering, and you and S. have convinced me I must find my own sweater vest soon.
Am I the only one who dresses down for exams? I don’t know why, but I almost always wear jeans to give exams (with a polished outfit, but definitely much more casual than my normal teaching wardrobe).
What fun to see all three rows of buttons so neatly aligned! Talk about looking “buttoned-up,” eh?
I’m loving the pink with the red of the poinsettia! I usually wear something funky to give a final exam. The students are focusing on the test and not on me, so I use it as time to be a little bit more experimental in my dress. When I gave my last final on Monday, I wore very loud purple and red patterned tights from ModCloth. These would normally not make it into the classroom.
Oooh, fun earrings!
I like how you layered the henley and the sweater-vest. It brings everything together.
