  1. Christina says:

I would match the scarlet scarf with other berry colors. I would start with jeans on the bottom tucked into black knee boots. Wear a printed blouse that has various berry colors on it (red, raspberry, fuschia, pink) with a sweater on top. And top it all off with the scarlet ripple scarf!

  2. Sarah says:

    Scarlet with grey tweed!

    (love your blog)

  3. Sarah says:

& once I overslept & had to race to a final exam, across a snowy quad, wearing polar bear pajamas, boots, and a winter coat. not impressive!

  4. Christina says:

Worst outfit– for my philosophy final. Tan corduroy pants with narrow wales that were cut-off. A navy blue t-shirt, tennis shoes, and giant circles under my eyes b/c I was up all night studying!

  5. Danielle says:

    1. The putty would go with black, brown, teal, and red. The red I would tend to match with pinks and chartreuse. But considering both are what I wear as “neutrals,” I’d probably wear either of them with anything I own!

    2. It’s been so long since my last final exam! I loved all my recital and jury outfits, so those are out. The worst outfits of my college days were probably those I wore after all-nighters, practice, writing, study, or other. Jeans, tshirts and sunglasses were de rigeur. I did once wear a sarong to teach in, and that wasn’t the biggest success.

  6. Elizabeth Ann says:

The putty colored scarf would pair well with any of my winter coats: white + putty for a winter neutral effect, putty + bright cherry red for a pop of color, putty + a grassy green for fun earthy tones. (Trust me it’s cold enough here to justify having three winter coats)

  7. Elizabeth Ann says:

I was taking classes and working an office job one semester and had to go straight to work after an exam. I showed up for the test in a black sweater, pumps and tights paired with a bright burgundy pencil skirt. I felt intelligent and professional.

  8. preeti says:

My scarlet scarf will look amazing with my olive green sweater!!!

  9. Sarah S says:

I’ve got a couple of weddings coming up – and I’ve got a turquoisey blue dress for one and a brown one for the other, so I’d probably match the putty with the blue and the scarlet with the chocolate one. On a regular basis I tend to wear a lot of black, and so I’d probably also wear either those with that.

  10. preeti says:

My worst exam taking outfit was high waisted taperd jeans, a pilled sweater, with puffed sleeves.

  11. jentine says:

I would wear the putty one with something poppy like fuschia or royal blue!

  12. Melissa says:

Both colors with a pretty aubergine :)

    lovelovelove your blog

  13. jentine says:

OK, I don’t have an exam wear story because I really can’t remember… but when I was invigilating exams this year, I wore skinny jeans, a grey tee and motorcycle boots and some well-chosen asseccories and one girl commented that my attire was inappropriate and I was giving her cut-eye. As if! You know how much cleavage (of the boob and butt kind) I saw during those exams… and I’m inappropriate?

  14. Melissa says:

worst exam outfit: for my don quijote final, i woke up late–having slept on wet hair–with no time to straighten out the hideous “waves”. i threw on the nearest pair of jeans, grabbed my old lady slippers, and ran out the door wearing the same top i slept in (t-shirt + camisole underneath…no bra. i most assuredly need a bra).

to make it worse: had a huge crush on my professor.

  15. Katie says:

The scarlet scarf with deep teal – my favorite color combination. In fact, I have a wrap dress that’s just the right shade…

  16. Jannette says:

I’d match the scarlet scarf with a turquoise shirt or grey shirt. These scarves are beautiful!

  17. Katie says:

As for memorable exam outfits, I had a philosophy in undergrad that the better I looked, the better I’d feel and the better I’d do. Tall boots, embroidered and embellished skirts, cute knee socks with mary jane’s – all were fair game. The all-time favorite was probably a burgundy tweed skirt with burgundy applique flowers, a cream, black and burgundy cardigan, and tall black boots. I rocked that Ornithology exam!

  18. Jannette says:

As for worst final exam outfit, I vaguely remember a pair of old fleece pants with a huge oversized sweatshirt. I always seemed to dress for comfort during that time period!

  19. Denise says:

Oooh – I love the scarlet scarf! I would pair it with a warm brown maybe. I would need to see it in person and play around with it a bit. (Your site has helped me play around with colors that I wouldn’t normally pair, so I’m sure I would veer away from brown and find something great in my closet!)

  20. brandi says:

Ohhh, those are so pretty! I would wear the putty with a soft cream and dark brown for an earthy tones look.

  21. Cassandra says:

I am currently enamored of red with gold tones and little hints of turquoise or teal–which are not colors I ever would have thought of pairing with red, but in small doses they’re eye-catching and fill a deep-seated need for color provoked by nasty Midwestern winters. Clearly the scarlet scarf would help me get through dissertating in the snow!

  22. Denise says:

The worst outfit that I wore to an exam was in high school when I wore light blue pajama bottoms (I kid you not) with dark blue snowflakes and a big hooded sweatshirt. Eek! I cringe just thinking about it!

  23. brandi says:

I remember wearing short denim shorts with a huge sweatshirt to take finals in. Also, most other days. I can’t think of anything more uncomfortable to sit in for a couple of hours than short denim shorts. GAH.

  24. elizabeth says:

I would match the putty scarf with a green. Even though I would be inclined to match the scarlet scarf with a fabulous black/white floral tunic I have, I would probably do it with an aqua colored shirt for a punchy look.

My worst outfit to an exam was when I wore cut off jean shorts (jorts) and a ratty tank top. I had Mono, a fever, it was summer-time in Florida and I was too hot to put on proper clothes. Nobody seemed to care.

  25. ChristineB says:

I’d pair the scarlett with grey. I love almost anything with grey these days!

  26. Ania says:

    Both are beautiful!

I would match the putty one with teal (I am loving teal this season!!). I would match the scarlet one with neutrals to make sure it really popped!

  27. Cassandra says:

And the worst exam outfit I ever wore was during a semester in Italy as an undergrad: fortunately I didn’t have to go outside in this, but it involved a puffy cobalt blue down coat and blue paisley polar fleece pajama pants. The building was drafty–what can I say? And I never dared show my face outside in Rome in that getup, at least.

  28. Ania says:

The outfit that I remember the most for test taking was for an 8 hour professional engineer exam. This test was as much a test for my mind as an endurance test!

Since we had to take this in a big cold stadium – I wore my softest fleece pants in gray with a black fleece pullover. High fashion – no. Comfort – yes.

  29. ChristineB says:

As for the exam outfit – when I was taking my exams to become a Certified General Accountant I always wore one of my hubby’s old Eddie Bauer plaid flannel shirts & jeans. Way after plaid flannel was in style & before it came back again. Not very stylish, but very comfy & something I didn’t need to worry about while sitting for a 3 hour exam.

  30. Elena says:

Wow! I love both colors and would gladly take either ;) I think I’d pair the putty with navy.

  31. Elena says:

My worst exam outfit was probably from my freshman year. I had a statistics final at 8AM and almost missed it (hence why I set roughly 7 alarms for 8AM finals now). I’m not a sweatpants/no make-up to class person, but I stumbled out make-up free in navy Illini sweats, Ugg-like boots, and my long pink plaid coat. In this case I remember the feeling of rushed panic more than the clothes!

  32. beth says:

ooh! I would pair the scarlet with a nice sienna brown.

  33. Lauren says:

    Love the scarves!

The taupe would look great with forest green or navy blue!

  34. Annie says:

I’d wear the scarlet scarf with a dark neutral color like charcoal grey or a deep reddish-brown in order to really make it pop!

  35. Annie says:

The worst outfit I ever wore to a final was my pajamas. In my defense, I was really, really sick. I had a fever and had been up all night finishing a final art project. I had to roll out of bed the next morning and didn’t have the energy to get dressed. As soon as I presented, I went straight home to bed (for the next three days!)

  36. Lauren says:

It seems like all the “fun” final exams outfits come from undergrad…

I think mine had to be sweatpants with my sorority’s letters on the butt, a hooded sweatshirt, and fluffy snow boots. And of course the sweat pants were tucked into the boots!

  37. Nancy says:

I adore the scarlet scarf! I would pair it with aqua. =)

  38. Alisha says:

I would wear the putty scarf with my cream wool coat and dark brown boots for a natural-looking color palette.

  39. Nancy says:

My last exam was sooooo long ago, but I remember I was wearing a floral dress with a big bib collar…eep! I had little kitten heels and slipped and nearly fell on the tile floor when I left. Ah, joyful memories. ha!

  40. Jessica says:

I would pair the putty one with autumn colors, and the scarlet scarf with different shades of brown.

  41. Emily says:

I’d wear the putty scarf with a vibrant blue, but I love the versatility of both colors!

  42. Alisha says:

My best finals exam outfit was actually worn a couple days ago for my sociolinguistics exam. I wasn’t worried about the exam at all, so I instead spent a little more time getting reading. I wore a black skinny jeans with a gray cardigan, my purple wool winter coat, and a black beret!

Luckily, I’ve never had an experience where I was running late and had to throw on sweatpants or PJs!

  43. Jessica says:

Worst outfit- probably sweatpants and sweat shirt.

  44. Miranda says:

I’d take either color! Pair them with..
navy and grey for the putty
and yellow and black with the red.

  45. Monica says:

I would wear the putty color with nearly everything in my closet becuase it’s a great neutral – but perhaps most often with great vibrant fall-ish colors I love like plum, mustard yellow, gold, rust, crimson, teal blue, and ocean blue.

The scarlet red would look great with any neutral as well as a number of other colors – greens, blues, and yellows!

  46. Emily says:

My worst finals outfit was not one of my own choosing (in my defense). The current RA staff in my dorm decided to initiate the next year’s staff, which I was on. They woke us up early and gave us our required outfits. Mine was head to toe green. Green scrub pants, neon green t-shirt and even fake glasses left over from St. Patrick’s Day! Not a monochromatic look that I would recommend!

  47. Ann says:

    Hi,
I am new to your site and just love it. I heard about it from a tread on YouLookFab. Wonderful site ladies! I am spreading the news to my fellow academics…

    As for the lovely scarfs:
The crimson color is calling my name: I would pair it with a soft light yellow or a very rich purple.
I would pair the putty with deep teal blouse and some cream pants :-)

Thanks for the chance to enter!

  48. Miranda says:

I once had to present a paper for my final exam. While I generally dressed-to-impress for such occasions, I completely forgot which day I was to present and ended up wearing a plaid shirt and holey jeans with flip-flops. Needless to say, it was an embarrassing situation.

  49. Megan says:

I would wear the putty with something burnt orange (my favorite color). I mean, who doesn’t want to dress like a pumpkin?

  50. Tara says:

I would pair the scarlet with black, brown, white, green, and navy blue. Heck, I’d even go crazy and try it with yellow!

  51. Ann says:

Oh, and the worst outfit worn to an exam:
very baggy jeans and a boxy lumberjack-like coat(complete with fleece lining and very large print blue and green plaid).Plus moccasins and socks.
The worst part of this outfit was that I wore it in Florida–how cold does it get THERE?

  52. Tara says:

The worst exam outfit wasn’t an exam outfit. It was a running to school to hand in a 12 page paper that I finished at 10:30 for a 12 pm deadline in a snowstorm outfit. The sad thing is that it was this past Wednesday.

I wore: black tights with black exercise pants, capri lenght on top, with winter boots, a UOttawa hoodie, hair in a pony tail. Add to that a hat, the hoodie on top of the hat, a scarf, a Columbia jacket, with that hood over the hoodie, and mittens.

    That my friends is chic.

  53. ilona says:

Blue with the Putty, definitely. Maybe cream with scarlet. The scarlet one is gorgeous.

  54. Anna says:

My entire winter wardrobe is grey and navy, so I would get the scarlet scarf to perk it up a bit!

  55. ilona says:

I’m pretty sure I wore sweats and hoodies to all my exams. So, it’s both the best and worst outfit!

  56. ShopKim says:

Hmm .. the putty is so versatile it’s more a matter of what color I would choose first! I’m in to tan/browns with black right now so that might be where I would start for that one.

  57. Meg says:

I’d pair the putty scarf with either an aubergine like in the photo, or a deep forest green. The scarlet would look lovely and seasonal with a white tee, my black skinnies, and knee-high boots.

  58. Casey says:

I would match the scarlet scarf with a beautiful jewel blue sweater I have! And probably dark blue skinny jeans and black boots. Beautiful scarf! :)

  59. ShopKim says:

As for finals, that is a tough tough question. I can barely remember anything I wore before starting my blog let alone that many years ago! I’m guessing it would be just jeans and a sweatshirt though because I’m pretty sure I never wore sweatpants or pj pants outside.

  60. Casey says:

The worst outfit worn to an exam? Isn’t that the same for most of us? Ill fitting grey sweats and a hooded sweatshirt. Snow boots to top it all off. Brrr it’s cold out there!

  61. Anna says:

I don’t remember the entire outfit, but my first year of law school I wore these horribly uncomfortable clogs to one of my finals. And I walked to school, so during the entire three-hour test my feet and ankles hurt! Oh, and last year my linguistics final was in a room that had the heat cranked up all the way, so it was approximately a billion degrees in there. Either way, finals are hard to take when you’re uncomfortable.

  62. Meg says:

My worst final exam outfit was probably back in high school, when I woke up ten minutes before an exam and had to run to school. I was braless, in a long-sleeved green tee layered with a mismatched Michelin-man-style vest; we weren’t allowed to wear jackets in the exam room, I had no time to stuff a coat in my locker, but it was snowing. I think my bottoms were either PJs or track pants, with my only pair of boots on the my feet (platform boots with a three-inch heel!).

  63. Amanda says:

scarlett and pale pink, putty and a bright teal blue

  64. Amanda says:

worst final exam outfit, faux purple uggs, light denim stretch jeans tucked in, and a university hoodie

  65. Holly says:

I would wear the putty with a black or green sweater and gray pants, and the scarlet with a pale pink sweater and black or dark blue jeans.

My worst exam outfit…I woke up 15 minutes before the final with a raging headcold. I threw on a pair of jeans, tennis shoes, and a university sweatshirt over my pajama top. I didn’t have time to wash my face, but I did make sure to shove an entire box of kleenex into my backpack. Luckily it was an easy exam.

  66. Sophia says:

I would love to match the putty with other neutrals. Neutrals by themselves scare me, so I’ve been trying to stretch myself a little bit there.

  67. katerina says:

id pair the scarlet with plum or teal…

  68. Sophia says:

Best final exam outfit: my friends and I decided to take our cell biology final as if we were going to a dance. So my guy friends wore suits, and the girls all wore dresses. I think I wore my little black dress with pearls and heels (and I hate heels).

  69. katerina says:

and as far as the worst exam outfit… it was sweatpants and sweatshirt all the way, but i used to put my long hair into two weird buns on top of my head.. i used to call them antennas.. like they could somehow pick the info i needed out of thin air.. sad…!

  70. Jill says:

I would pair the scarlet scarf with a pretty black-and-white houndstooth print.

  71. S says:

This may be totally uninspired of me, but I love the putty/eggplant combo you have going on and would most likely try to replicate it!

  72. Jill says:

My worst exam outfit occurred during my freshman year. My lovely suitemates decided to have a huge party the night before my 8 am drama exam, so I got zero sleep and somehow turned off my alarm when it went off the next morning without ever waking up. When I finally woke up, I had about 20 minutes to get all the way across campus before the exam started, so I pulled on jeans and a sweatshirt (I’m not even sure I put on a bra!), grabbed a Coke for breakfast, and booked it to the exam!

  73. Katharine says:

Oooh… Me wanty. Recently I’ve really enjoyed pairing bright red with turquoise so that’s what I’d probably do. Or the putty one with lime green – I have a lime green sweater.

  74. I would pair the putty with teal and the scarlet with charcoal!! love love them both!

  75. Katharine says:

I can’t remember any BEST final exam outfits but the worst would probably have been baggy jeans and a stained t-shirt with black and white cats on it. For an oil painting class, so I did have some excuse, but still… when I think of those jeans I sorta want to *headdesk*

  76. The worst outfit I have worn to finals would be mint green ugg boots, oversized sweats with Utah on the rear, a holey AE men’s t, and a silver puff coat ;) not my proudest moment!

  77. Melanie says:

I would pair the scarlet scarf with my cognac brown leather coat for a warm color combo. :)

  78. Ruggedor says:

Putty with anything! Or mostly I was thinking a nice deep blue or green.

  79. Melanie says:

The worst outfit I wore was pj pants tucked into rain boots topped with my peacoat. i think i was also wearing a scarf on my head to cover my horrible messy hair. this was the result of an all-nighter. AND it was pouring rain during my walk to the test. :(

  80. Maria says:

I’d wear the red (my favorite color) with green on christmas. I’m corny like that.

    Maria

  81. Miss L says:

I would combine putty with aubergine…

  82. Kaylyn says:

I would wear the putty with teal or raspberry. So lovely!

  83. Alli says:

I would pair them both with dove grey, for two totally different looks. Lovely giveaway!

  84. Maria says:

I wore the same outfit for all my finals in college – my brother’s super baggy sweats in navy, a grey sweatshirt from my home town, a brown fleece scarf around my neck, slippers on my feet, and a scrunchy (yes a scrunchy) holding up all my hair. I went to a women’s college, so didn’t care about looking presentable when we were stressed. In fact, I think I was one of the better dressed gals around finals time.

  85. Ugh, I think my worst final exam outfit is probably my uniform from freshman year of college – boy’s jeans that were way too big, Doc Martins, and a grungy navy blue hoodie. I cringe to remember my college style.

  86. Meghan says:

    Scarlet scarf with neutral dresses!

  87. Kaylyn says:

The worst outfit I wore to a final exam was pajama pants with a hoodie, no shirt, just a bra under and my slippers. So I may have rolled out of bed and gone straight to school….we’re all lucky I had clothes on! :)

  88. Miss L says:

My worst exam outfit must be black velour sweatpants, ripped and broken uggs, a Genesis t shirt that was waaaaay too tight and a homeknit wool sweater. My not-so-clean hair in a bun, and no make up,showing all my acne. It got warm and I sat in that skin tight tee. All I could think about ws how fat I looked. Not my assignment. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!

  89. Courtney says:

The scarlet scarf would be amazing on a navy background. Maybe a dark navy blue sweater, greyish brown skirt, brown leather boots, and mustard yellow accents (yay, a triad!).

  90. Chelsea says:

okay well putty could go with just about everything (being a neutral of course)! I’m thinking a mossy green would look lovely. As for the scarlet scarf I’ll go for navy blue and white :)

Unfortunately I cannot remember a single outfit that I wore to a final exam back in undergrad, and having just applied to grad school I’ve got nothing there, so one entry will have to do!

  91. Courtney says:

The worst outfit I’ve worn to an exam was in undergrad. A pair of baggy cargo khakis, a lavender camisole with a floral print, and tennis shoes.

  92. Karin says:

I would match the putty one with petrol, for instance. I can think of thousands of combinations. And the scarlet, with grey and brown I think now.

Anyway, they are gorgeous. What a great giveway!

  93. Lisa says:

I’d wear the putty scarf with a plum cardigan.

  94. Maria says:

Loving the putty…I would pair it with teal for a sumptious combo.

  95. Linda says:

putty with cranberry fuchsia. delicious for the holidays

  96. Nikki says:

The scarlet with chocolate brown cordurouys and a cream top….delish

  97. Linda says:

my worst outfit? three words: kelly green pants.

  98. Stephanie Appiah says:

My best outfit to a final exam was a tailored gray suit, dark gray, with a wine colored camisole top, and turquoise blue high heeled sandals. It was for my art history class.
My worst outfit…sponge bob pajamas with dora the explorer flip flops to a physics final.

  99. chrissy says:

I’d love to wear the scarlet scarf with a deep blue long sleeved shirt. Cozy and beautiful!

  100. Ana says:

I would wear the putty scarf with something in deep purple!

  101. chrissy says:

I’ve never really dressed up for finals. I got my masters online, so probably the worst thing I wore “to” the final was a pair of boxer shorts and an old t-shirt!

  102. Ana says:

The worst outfit I ever wore to a final exam involved sweatpants and a hoodie. Shameful.

  103. Kate says:

I think the scarlet would look great with a dark navy, or a grey!

  104. Kate says:

Worst finals outfit? Satin pajama pants and flip flops.

  105. The scarlet scarf with a grey sweater. GO BUCKS!

  106. Scarlet with a dark emerald green. Since it seems to have a decent amount of orange in it a nice dark green would really make it pop!

  107. Cate says:

Scarlet with a rich coffee brown and I like the idea of the putty with blue. I have a very vividly bright blue sweater that would look lovely with this scarf. If I happened to win that is.

  108. Kelly says:

I am IN LOVE with the Putty Scarf! I would match it with so much in my wardrobe. I think that I would first wear it with my cobalt blue or maroon sweater, a brown belt, my skinny jeans and brown boots.

The scarlet scarf I would pair with my fabulous gray shirt dress.

  109. Kelly says:

As far as WORST outfit ever to an exam–I would go with a black dress that was cut SUPER short.

It was sleeveless and had hot pink flowers on it that went all the way up the side. I paired it with black wedge flip flops!

  110. Shay says:

I want the putty to wear with teal!

  111. Shay says:

Worst final outfit: birkenstocks, sweatpants, black northface. In my defense, it was freezing.

  112. Marta says:

Scarlet scarf and nice blue dress would make for a great combinantion:D As an undergrad we would have to go to the exams as black/white combinations so no best no worst for me. Everything was busines!! :D

  113. Meli says:

scarlet with muted colors to show it off: taupe, greys, browns, blacks, navy, etc, and a pop of unexpected color (grey, yellow, and scarlet anyone?) ;)

  114. jphys says:

scarlet please! i’d wear it with browns/tans/khakis when im feel neuthral with a pop. or with other reds and oranges when im feeling analogous

  115. jphys says:

worst final outfit: sweatpants tucked into snowboots, and about eight layers on top (it was cold!)

  116. Regina says:

    Putty with purple!

  117. Kayla says:

You could put both scarves with so many colors, but I would love to put the putty with a dark purple. And the Scarlet with a great gray.

  118. Regina says:

Worst final outfit – PJ’s and tennis shoes.

  119. Kayla says:

I may have been distracted and forgot what time my test was supposed to start, and by the time we realized it was too late to change! I showed up in my still wet bathingsuit with a dress thrown overtop and some flip flops, but my dress was soaked, and so was the seat under me by the time the test was done!

  120. M. says:

Putty with a teal, or even a white collared button down shirt, with the scarf tucked into a dark brown belt(like you did it!)

  121. Nic says:

I’d pair the red scarf with my turquoise dress and the putty scarf with my navy blue dress.

  122. aj says:

I’d wear the putty one with my deep burgundy sweater dress just for starters. Then there is my green/gold velvet blazer, and my red corduroy blazer…

  123. Goober says:

I’d wear the scarlet as a pop of color with a black and white outfit. I’d wear the putty with olive green.

I was extremely superstitious is school. As soon as I did well on an exam in an outfit I’d wear it for all my exams. My college finals outfit for my freshman and sophomore years was plaid flannel pants, an oversized UC hooded sweatshirt over a boys undershirt. I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure I also had lucky socks. In law school I admit I did wear giant overalls more than once. Darnit, I needed to focus, and I didn’t want tight fitting clothes. I looked sloppy, but I did well on my exams :)

For a second chance to win, leave a separate comment describing the best or worst outfit you’ve worn to a final exam! (E. remembers hers. She had these awesome red pants with Asian motifs scattered all over it. She wore those with a black shirt and heels to an 8 a.m. exam in undergrad.)

  124. aj says:

I’ve mostly worn jeans and a sweatshirt to final exams. But next week I will be administering my first final exam as a teaching assistant. I plan to wear black ponte knit pants, an ivory wool turtleneck, think black belt, black wedges, and my favorite red/black/ivory patterned scarf.

  125. J says:

My first instinct for the scarlet one was gold, but I could never wear that at college — so my recommendation is a navy blue. The scarf would be such a big pop!

  126. Abbie says:

Putty with navy all the way.

  127. Abbie says:

Worst finals outfit was a striped sweater in Easter-egg colors and similar socks. I was going through a phase. Don’t judge.

  128. J says:

OH, and worst final outfit? Actually… It might be my best (or my most conformist). UCLA sweatshirt, jeans, and Rainbows. =]

  129. Fiona F says:

I would match the scarlet with black, just cuz all my basics are black. Plus, black + red pop = me!

  130. Fiona F says:

This one time I wore a T-shirt and a skirt to take the SAT, the testing room was fuh-ree-zing.

  131. Maria says:

Hmmm…I can’t remember a fabulous exam-taking outfit, but the worst would probably be when I was planning to drive home right after finals. Blue exercise pants, tennies, and a t-shirt so the drive would be comfy (I rarely go out in public in a t-shirt!)

  132. Sara says:

The red scarf would go amazingly with my greyed-teal wool coat – I love that combination. And for under the coat, as that scarf is too amazing to reserve for just a coat, I’d pair it with my multi-colored silk top (it’s white and has specks of blues and tans and greens) and my navy cropped cargos. Gorgeous!

It’s been so long since my final exams… but I know I used to wear XXL sweaters under (yes, under) pinstriped denim overalls, sneakers, and scrunchies in my hair almost exclusively during my freshman year of college back in the nineties, so I’m sure that’s what I wore to finals as well. I was an unfashionable fright.

  133. Carlin says:

Once in my undergrad I had to write an exam at 8:00am on Halloween. In protest (because it’s one of my favourite holidays) I wore my costume (I was a pirate) to the exam, complete with feathered hat, corset, tall boots, ruffed skirt and fake sword. It’s kind of fun writing an exam as a pirate:)

  134. laniza says:

    1. The scarlet scarf is such a gorgeous color. I’d pair it with emerald green or olive.

    2. My best winter exam outfit was a black rayon wrap dress, thick black & white polka dot tights, and flat black boots. Cute, comfy, and cozy all in one :)!

  135. Danielle says:

I would match the scarlett scarf w/ a cream sweater and a pair of jeans to add a splash of color to my Christmas outfit.

  136. Bethany B says:

Definitely scarlet with plum/dark purple. I wore that color combination this week (shirt and cardigan) and it was a great one.

  137. Jeni says:

I think I would try matching the putty one with a coral color and maybe the scarlet one with dark purple/eggplant!

  138. kelly n says:

Love the scarlet color! I would pair it with grays and blacks, purple for a bright pop of lots of color, or maybe a soft baby blue for contrast. Love the ruffles

  139. Jeni says:

I just finished up my finals this week, I had 8!

I think my worst outfit was this past wednesday, I had a Physics final that started at 7:30am. It was really cold so I was wearing lots of bulky layers including mismatched sweats, and multiple shirts and sweaters layered under my sweatshirt! I got an A so I guess it was worth it!

  140. Bethany B says:

My exam outfit was just this week. My best-fitting pair of jeans, my stretchy orange short-sleeved Banana Republic fitted shirt, and my long empire-waist cardigan sweater in a dark purple/plum color. I paired it with black sandals (not too cold for that here).

  141. kelly n says:

Worst exam outfit….. well I live in Minnesota, meaning fall semester finals fall right in the middle of winter, so I would have to say clunky winter boots, soggy jean bottoms(from the snow), an d abig puffy jacket. A required outfit for the weather, but not visually pleasing, somewhat distracting, and none too pleasant while trying to focus on a test.

  142. Anna says:

They’re both lovely, but I’m not very good at mixing red with anything but neutrals (I love other reader’s ideas of using it with teal though). I’d LOVE the putty scarf- I wear a lot of eggplant, black, teal, navy, emerald, and orange, and it’d look lovely with any of those colors!

  143. PL says:

I like the putty scarf, and I would probably pair it with my numerous eggplant-colored tops (my favorite color). Thanks for offering these giveaways!

  144. Anna says:

As far as terrible exam outfits go, my university was so casual that jeans were considered dressy. I was never one for sweats, but I usually showed up for exams in jeans, rubber flip flops from old navy, and my hoodie from the bookstore. The worst time though was when I had the final paper due and the exam for a class at 4:30 on a Monday. I was editing/finalizing the paper at like 7 pm Sunday night when I decided it sucked, deleted the entire thing, and started from scratch. I worked on straight until 5 am, slept till 8, worked till 4 and left for the exam. I was wearing the cheerleader shorts and tank I’d thrown on after I showered SATURDAY night! But I aced the exam, got an A on the paper and in the class so I guess it worked for me lol.

  145. PL says:

The worst outfit I wore to finals was when I was running late for class and had forgotten to put my laundry in the dryer the previous night. I decided to just wear a new pair of jeans I bought at Gap and ran out the door. I didn’t realize until I got to class and sat down to take the test that I still had the tag and sticker stuck to the side of my leg. This happened when I was an undergrad and was in one of those large theater-style seating, and I’m pretty sure a good amount of people saw. Apparently lack of sleep and too much studying will do that to you.

  146. Karen says:

Putty scarf with black T-shirt and black-and-white houndstooth-ish pants! (Oooh, the scarlet scarf would look awesome with these neutrals too, but I’m all over the putty.)

  147. Karen says:

Finals, ah, finals! I don’t remember what I wore when I taught English (it was so long ago…), but I just gave a final today for an aerobics class, where we did strength testing, and it was the BEST outfit! Black stretchy workout pants (in a tall, so hard to find!), and a neat Annika shirt in maroon with a little collar (see Annika line here: http://www.cutterbuck.com/Annika_Collection/cid=29/shop.axd/Category). I scored it at TJ Maxx and had no idea I was supposed to play golf in it.

  148. caroline says:

Gorgeous! I would pair the putty with a navy or grey sweater.

  149. mamichan says:

so pretty! i’d pair the scarlet one with a printed black/white top, or a grey sweater.

  150. caroline says:

I don’t really have a best or worst outfit, but I often wear my “I love psychology” shirt during final exams for my psych classes. :) Paired with chinos or trouser jeans, I am at least representing my discipline. I figure I dressed up all semester long, I can have some fun on finals week.

  151. Erin says:

I would pair the putty scarf with yellow or green for a fun earthy look and I would pair the scarlet scarf with purple for a regal-esque look. And since I am currently trying to shed post baby pounds I’d wear each with my dark wash ON Flirt jeans that are part of my transition wardrobe. But with the putty and yellow I’d wear my leopard flats and for the scarlet and purple I’d wear my plaid purple flats (or if I get them for Christmas the scarlet flats I’ve been wanting). :)

Worse exam outfit? The t-shirt and sweats I’d worn the day before and pulled an all-nighter in.

  152. Natasha says:

I’d love to combine the orange with some brown. I love warm colors.

  153. Desiree says:

I’d wear the putty with a turquoise blue cardigan set, dark brown belt and brown pants! So cute!

  154. Desiree says:

Pajamas with the feet in them (I had boots on so no one else knew–but I did)

  155. Jessica says:

I’d pair the scarlet with a black and tan dress…

  156. Apricot says:

I would wear the putty one with a teal v-neck and black skinnies. :)

  157. Apricot says:

On Monday, I’m planning on taking my math final in underarmour tights, shorts and a sweatshirt so I can go for a run directly afterwards.

  158. I’d wear the putty colored one with all my teal and purple clothing. It would go great against black or white too.

  159. I would pair the putty one with a bright orange dress and nude shoes to break up the bright color and to add texture to the outfit! – JoAnn

  160. JBC says:

I would wear the putty scarf with a black dress and topaz jewelry!

  161. By far my worst finals outfit was for Intro to Social Psychology freshman year. Halfway through the exam I realized I had put my red shirt on backwards!I think my stovepipe jeans were a little too short, just to round out the awkwardness.

I love your fun bonus questions, by the way.

  162. My worst final outfit consisted of a Spiderman kid’s tshirt, red&black striped pajama pants and ugly tan flip flops. I accessorized with a bottle of Mountain Dew, and topped it all off by forgetting to shower for the last two days. Not only was I kinda gross-looking, I also froze a little because the A/C was cranked up in the lecture hall! – JoAnn

  163. eaj2a says:

I would like to pair the scarlet one with a nice black dress to accentuate the outfit!

  164. eaj2a says:

I don’t think I’ve ever gone to an exam looking amazing. Maybe next semester will be the first!

My worst: Pajama pants, rainboots (that were good for the snow, but too hot during the exam), huge hoodie, and gloves. :P

  165. Hannah Bergren says:

I would love to wear the putty with a beautiful light pink sweater :)

  166. Hannah Bergren says:

I wore jeans I wore 3 days in a row and since I had brought almost all my clothes home the weekend before, I had no clean pairs of underoos. So not only did i smell, on my last day of finals my behind was a little chilly when walking across campus.

(I can’t believe I admitted to that. Online. For the whole world to see…)

  167. Jen says:

I would wear the putty one with navy blue trousers, grey top and turquoise earrings.

  168. For a festive holiday look, I’d wear the scarlet with a nice cream color. I can see it now!

  169. Caitlin says:

I love both colors, but I’d love to pair the putty scarf with an olivey green and white.

  170. Worst outfit worn to an exam: nike running shorts, tshirt and tennis shoes, no socks. Why? I had been up all night studying and writing this huge paper. I barely made it to class in time. Talk about a stressful and unfortunately unfashionable situation!

  171. MeganS says:

I’d wear the putty scarf with a forest green top. It looks lovely and versatile!

  172. Jen says:

Worst exam outfit definitely sweatpants, and birkenstock sandals with socks (yellow with ladybugs). Thankfully, there’s no picture of that “memorable” ensemble anywhere!

  173. Caitlin says:

Finals week, I always live in the same pair of jeans, t shirt, and college sweatshirt.

  174. Keneisha says:

I’d wear the scarlet scarf with navy and/or dark denim to show off it’s brightness!

  175. SK says:

Scarlet with everything, because why not?! But red and lime green is an unexpected holiday favorite.

  176. SK says:

The best part about proctoring final exams is wearing jeans for the first time in a semester of teaching and watching your already stressed students flip out!

  177. Jenny says:

Scarlet scarf with teal accessories and black pants and top for DRAMA.

Worst exam outfit: a hoodie thrown over pajamas, accessorized with dark eye circles.

  178. Sabrina says:

Ooh, I love the putty scarf! I’ve bee inspired by you ladies to try more colors. I recently thrifted a beautiful bright slightly blue-green )too green to be teal though) Zara dress from a couple seasons ago with a bit to low of a neckline. This would be the perfect compliment, along with low camel colored riding boots.

  179. Sabrina says:

My worst final exam outfit was the year after I left the military. I wore my fatigues to my Spanish final. I felt fearless. I looked ridiculous though (seriously, with blue sneakers? Shudder). Hey, I was 19, it was the 1990s!

  180. Melissa says:

I’d pair the putty with either teal or navy blue. Actually, probably navy blue as I have a blazer that a brownish scarf would look great with!

  181. Melissa says:

I can think of a couple of bad finals outfits, but the worst was probably the year I had to fly back early to write a supplemental exam. I got in the night before, but the airline *lost* my luggage! The only clothes I had were the ones that I’d been travelling in all day, and I was staying in an empty residence room (no sheets, no anything). Almost everything was closed, so I was able to buy a pair of leggings and a couple of tops, none of which were particularly flattering. But my exam was first thing in the morning and my selection was very limited.

I didn’t do well on the exam, but the real lesson was learned. Always carry a spare shirt and a change of underwear in your carry on baggage.

  182. Clara says:

Perhaps surprisingly, I’d wear both scarves (which are lovely, by the way) with turquoise. I might be a bit more subdued with the turquoise on the latter, wearing it in a top rather than, say, a turquoise dress. I do love turquoise with both these hues.

  183. Clara says:

Ah, final exam outfit. That would have to be the time I woke up late (very late) for an 8 am final and, since I used to sleep nude at the time, put my raincoat over my nakedness and my feet into tennis shoes, and ran across campus. I remember spending a good deal of time during the exam worrying about how I was sitting and whether the buttons were gaping.

  184. Stephanie says:

Putty with sage green and violet.

  185. Stephanie says:

Worst outfit… for me this is horrible – sweat pants and a baggy shirt with old navy plastic flip flops and no makeup. I’m pretty sure i have never worn such nasty outfit in public since.

  186. G says:

All my winter coats are shades of grey and the scarlet scarf would look perfect against my skin (I’m not a fan of grey/black against my face and so I try to add color by layering on bright scarves).

The scarlet scarf looks light and airy enough to be worn during summer as well….it will look sooo amazing paired with a crisp white shirt or tunic.

  187. Carina says:

Putty with fuschia, and in the spirit of the season (but utterly tacky…) scarlet with hunter green (hahaha)

  188. G says:

I still have vivid memories of the most nightmarish outfit ever– I wore it to go check my exam results….it was late 80s (need I say more!) and I was going to check my 8th grade results…. a bright yellow t-shirt with minnie mouse on it, reaching out her hands to pick apples off a tree. VERY strategically placed apples. WHAT was I thinking. Why did I even OWN that monstrosity….. shudder!!!! Oh in addition to that , it had polka dots all over it— for some reason I loved polka dots in school— can’t stand them anymore….

  189. I’d wear either one of them with grey. I love grey.

    darlingpetunia@aol.com

  190. BethP says:

I’d love to wear the putty with my long cream sweater and brown boots

  191. Good gravy, college was a long time ago for me! Is it okay if an old lady just tells of a ghastly fashion choice from college? Mine would be red corduroys. EEEK!

  192. BethP says:

No particular exam oufits come to mind, but I’m sure I went to many in very lowcut jeans and either a hoodie (winter) or midriff-bearing tankop (summer)–eek!

  193. Becky says:

I would wear the putty with ivory for a neutral palette.

  194. Becky says:

Best outfit: rolled out of bed late, but I needed to put on a “power outfit” for a theological aesthetics exam. It was a white BR shift dress over a short-sleeved black cashmere sweater, with opaque black tights and Ann Taylor nude t-straps peep toe heels. Funny how sometimes the best outfits come together out of chaos.

  195. I love these scarves! Ok, I would probably make a green and blue outfit and pair it with the putty scarf. And for the scarlet scarf, my fav of the two, I would wear it with mustard to have like a citric combination.

  196. The absolute WORST outfit I have worn to a final was last year actually.. I am the girl that always dresses up every single day. I am almost always groomed, with make-up, etc. So one finals I didn’t sleep at all (perhaps 1 or 2 hours) and sadly my outfit paid the price. I wore a slouchy old tee with shorts, flip flops (something I NEVER wear in public), no make-up, no accessories, and my hair in some sorda nest looking do. jajaja it was hilarious!

  197. Jac says:

It is not exactly exciting but I would match the red scarf with a little black dress. I know black and red are not exactly a new, original combination but they are classic and really just look good together.
As for the putty, I would probably wear it with a dark chocolate or a nacy. I like brown and blue together a lot right now!

  198. Hadley says:

Putty with my spring green turtleneck and trouser jeans. And heels. Always heels.

  199. Hadley says:

I went to my linear algebra exam with navy blue tights and henley with a red and blue plaid skirt adorned with ruffle edge and patch pockets. The best part was the purple underwear that showed when the zipper split. The (borrowed) orange hoodie tied around my waist matched perfectly.

  200. design_SMITH says:

I would pair the putty scarf with icy blues!

  201. design_SMITH says:

Worst finals outfit? Probably whatever I wore to my first Structures exam – I was so sick I could barely sit up (and my exam score reflected that – at least I passed!). It was probably an oversized sweater, jeans, tennis shoes, and a packet of kleenex.

  202. MrsRoy says:

Loving this scarf- I’d pair the putty with this great mossy green top I have, I think it’s becoming my new favorite color. :)

  203. Bonnie says:

I’d wear the scarlet scarf with burgundy. I’ve been loving the light-and-dark shades of the same color lately.

  204. Bonnie says:

Worst outfit: Fluorescent pink track pants and a velour jacket. It was chilly outside!

  205. MissWiniW says:

I would match the putty scarf with my new summer dress (http://misswiniw.tumblr.com/photo/1280/277539516/1/tumblr_kufvzvMrRZ1qatpim) in autumn (and into winter) to make the dress more versatile.
And I could use the scarlett scarf to brighten up my black suits for work!
Worst outfit worn to a final exam? I remember wearing track pants to one exam but I haven’t done an exam in years so it’s hard to remember what I wore! My greatest tip for uni is that if you hate exams, choose courses that don’t require you to sit them!!!

  206. Christina W. says:

That putty color is such a pretty neutral! I’d pair it with an old emerald green sweater I have to liven it up.

  207. Katie says:

Hmm… scarlet with purple, because everything looks good with purple!

  208. Katie says:

Was that E’s best or worst outfit, by the way? As an undergrad, I wore the same sweatshirt to almost every exam, a man’s XXL from my first international event as an athlete (I’m 5’0″, 90# and it hangs down to my knees, but makes me feel like I can accomplish anything.)

  209. Tara says:

I would pair the putty with purple

  210. Elizabeth says:

I’d pair the putty with a turquoise blazer, denim skirt and tall brown boots.

Scarlett with a LBD, grey tights and purple boots !

  211. Tara says:

My best or worst outfit for finals was always jeans and a t-shirt. Not at all fashionable, but oh so comfy!

  212. Elizabeth says:

Worst final exam outfit ever: Way back in undergrad, we had this (retrospectively embarrassing) habit of wearing men’s boxers as shorts. A warm May day found me taking final exams in purple cow printed boxers, a t-shirt that said “Rowing’s a bitch and so am I” (hardbitten undergrad humor for ya!), and green suede Birkenstocks. I cringe for my former self.

  213. Liane says:

I’d put the scarlet with a light green!

  214. Liane says:

As for my best outfit ever, it was an orange sundress with my bright blue rainboots and dark blue tights, complete with an orange cardigan.

  215. Eileen says:

I would match putty with an orange blouse (it’s more of dull/reddish orange than a bright orange) and a teal button-down sweater, with gray striped pants and brown shoes.

  216. Eileen says:

Also, the worst outfit I’ve ever worn to a final exam? Whatever it was I’d slept in the night before. The only time my alarm clock ever failed on me completely was before a psychology exam on the last day of school my first year of undergrad. I got a (lifesaving) call from a classmate a few minutes after class started, and just put on flipflops and ran in the rain to class without brushing hair, brushing teeth, any of those necessities.
Also, I ended up kicking off the flip flops when I got to the building the test was in because I was afraid I was going to slip on the tile and hurt myself.
My prof sent me to the hallway get my flip flops and gave me a chance to catch my breath.
Got an A- in the class. Don’t remember how I did on that final.

  217. AlannaT says:

I’d put the scarlet with a base of neutrals – grey and black, or perhaps cream and chocolate brown.

  218. AlannaT says:

I don’t remember exactly but probably the worst outfit I wore was baggy sweatpants, baggy sweatshirt, unwashed faced covered in [dorky] glasses, and unwashed hair covered in a baseball cap.

  219. Jade says:

The scarlet would look gorgeous with a comfy gray sweater!

  220. Jade says:

The worst outfit I ever wore to class was a flowery summer dress over jeans and terribly chunky mary janes that I got from Hot Topic. This was back in high school when I thought I was punk… lucky I grew out of that phase!

  221. Elena says:

I think scarlet would look great against a dark background, a little black dress, or maybe a dark charcoal sweater. And the putty I can see offsetting a pink or yellow.

  222. Elena says:

As for worst finals outfit… probably all of them, since they were all sweats, all the time!

  223. Ryane says:

I think I’d match the scarlet scarf with slate gray for a warm, but professional look.

  224. Ryane says:

and worst exam outfit… an old sweater and jeans that were worn thin in a couple of places… they didn’t last through the exam!

  225. Abi says:

As an Oxford student I had to wear the dreaded ‘Sub-Fusc’ to exams.
This was black skirt or trousers, white shirt and a tatty bit of black velvet ribbon that noone really knows how to tie. This was all topped off with a academic gown. (I even got a formal warning for not wearing dark socks – it was june!) But my white/pink/red carnation made things a bit better…

  226. Abi says:

I would match the putty scarf with my turquoise cardi.

  227. emily says:

I would match the scarlet with charcoal gray and my fun patent red ballet flats.

  228. Brooke says:

I would wear the scarlet scarf with purple – one of my favorite color combination’s!

  229. Brooke says:

Finals were really not a big deal for me, I’m sure I wore jeans and a sweatshirt or t-shirt to most of them. For some finals I had to give a presentation, so I wore a skirt, tights, and button down shirt for those.

  230. Beth Novak says:

I would match the scarlett with other jewel tones (particularly peacock) and the putty with black.

  231. I’d wear either with sky blue, purple, or grey.

  232. My first year of college, I would roll into my exams wearing flannel pjs and a sweatshirt.

  233. Natalie says:

Slept in because my loud roommates had a party till 4am, woke up a minute before hte final, and ran half a mile across campus IN THE SNOW in 5 minutes in ugg boots, the sweatpants I ONLY sleep in, a 4-year old sweatshirt, and a baseball cap. I was so disgusting and I wanted to cry :-(

  234. Natalie says:

I would wear the putty scarf with a cream shirt.

  235. Barbara Watson says:

I would gravitate toward olive green with the scarlet scarf and I love brown/black combos so it would be difficult to try a new pairing with putty. Maybe I could convince myself to cinch the putty scarf with a mustard yellow belt…if I only had some yellow shoes!

  236. Kristen says:

I’d pair the putty scarf with a plum or aubergine top and navy pants.

  237. Christa says:

I’d pair the scarlet with charcoal gray.

  238. Christa says:

I can honestly say I don’t think I ever had a “best” final exam outfit, unless you count my best pajama pants. Hooded sweatshirts and pajama pants definitely fall into the “worst” category, but at least I wore shoes unlike many of my classmates. That counts for something, right?

  239. Andrea says:

I would match the putty scarf with cream and brown.

  240. Sharon says:

I’d pair the scarlet scarf with something in black or charcoal pinstripe.

  241. Sharon says:

I haven’t taken a final exam since 1979!! I’m entering this giveaway in the hope I can win one of these beautiful scarves for my god-daughter, who would absolutely love them! Anyway, back to the 70s–I probably wore bell bottoms and something tie-dyed to all my final exams back then!!

  242. Hannah says:

I’d wear the scarlet one with my teal sweater! Those scarves look gorgeous :)

  243. Andrea says:

Oh gosh. High-waisted jeans and an ill-fitting turtle-neck sweater. It was spectacular in ways I could only comprehend in retrospect. *shudder*

  244. sjb says:

I would pair the scarlet scarf with a purple dress! I love bold and vibrant color pairings.

  245. sjb says:

Also, the best/worst thing I ever wore to a final exam were my clothes from the night before! It was an art final, so there was no test, we just had to show up and discuss at 8am. With this in mind, I went out with friends the previous evening, ended up sleeping at their place, and going straight to the final.

  246. Ashleigh says:

I’d be a little boring and pair the scarlet scarf with all black for a fancy night out–sleek black blouse, black cigarette pants, black boots–and wear it with chunky gold jewelry.

For a day shopping or hanging out with friends, I’d throw on the scarlet one with a chartreuse or mustard shirt and dark-wash jeans, with a pair of vintage brown boots I have with red and green flowers painted on the sides.

  247. Ashleigh says:

My worst final exam outfit? Well, it wasn’t a final per say, but for my MA thesis defense, chaired by the dour and very traditional head of my history department, I put on a ridiculous vintage jacket with van Gogh’s Starry Night painted on the back, with ripped jeans and a ruffled cream tank top. And four-inch heels.

Yes, I know all about dressing appropriately for every occasion. I passed the defense with flying colors, but afterwards I tried to figure out exactly what possessed me to put on such a thing.

  248. Judy says:

Scarlet and deep navy blue….my favorite!

  249. Judy says:

I always wore my fav holey sweatswith my lucky undies!

  250. Margaret says:

    Hi!
    1. I would pair the scarlet with a vibrant turquoise. And I do believe that I would pair the putty with black. I’ve been wearing alot of black and brown together lately (mostly because it aggravates my husband b/c he strongly believes that brown and black can never be worn together;)

    2. I’m actually finishing up finals right now. I actually rocked the horrid uggs tucks into sweats for an 8am final yesterday, which I never ever ever ever do. I’ve dressed up for all my finals so far, but if I had attempted to think about an outfit or color combo before yesterdays final, I do believe my brain would have exploded. I did, however, match about 1000 girls on campus that morning.

  251. Sarah says:

I would wear the Scarlet with this dark teal scoop neck shirt and a brown cardigan and feel fabulous! All I need are the perfect pair of skinnies and flats to round the adorable outfit out.

    Alright back to writing…

  252. M says:

I’d match the putty with a rich eggplant purple top and a brown skirt with knit tights. Probably would throw in some gold jewelry too.

  253. M says:

Worst finals outfit was definitely my freshman year of college. I wore the same hoodie and jeans I wore the day before and had pulled an allnighter studying so my hair was in a messy ponytail and I hadn’t even showered. whoops!

  254. laura says:

I like the putty/purple combination you’ve got going on there! I also think it might look great with a greenish blue top I have.

The scarlet would be great with a rich chocolate brown

  255. laura says:

I always wear jeans and a hoodie to final exams. Awful, I know, but comfortable!

  256. Leslie says:

I would go nautical with the red scarf. I would pair it with white pants and a navy shirt.

The brown scarf would go with turquoise blue and denim.

  257. Leslie says:

I once went to a drama final dressed as a wizard. This ensemble included a full beard, floor length cape and pointy hat.

Thank goodness I got an A.

  258. Megan says:

Scarlett with pale turquoise (in what I wish was cashmere).

  259. Megan says:

(Repotsing. Sorry – previous post had the wrong email address).

Scarlett with pale turquoise (in what I wish was cashmere).

  260. Megan says:

Worst finals outfit: a pair of stretched-out, wide-leg, gray waffle weave PJ pants stands out.

  261. Diana-Marie says:

I’d wear Putty with purple and gray but that’s mainly because that’s what most of my wardrobe consists of.

p.s. I love your blog (this is my first comment ever)

  262. emily says:

As an undergrad I overslept and attended one final exam in flannel pajama pants and a giant sweatshirt.

  263. Nicole says:

That scarlet scarf craves a paaaale, pale teal–robin’s egg blue, I think–dress. Or navy blue and white, because red, white, and navy blue is undeniably the best thing ever… I think :D

  264. Nicole says:

And for my second entry: I once wore a vintage red polyester bowling shirt with “Suzzane” (yes, spelled like that) embroidered above the pocket to a high school final. And my name is not Suzzane. Pretty bad. I wore it with a black skirt, eck.

  265. Caroline says:

I usually wore comfortable, boring clothes to exams like a soft fleece sweater and jeans, but I can tell you my favourite accessory: a small desk clock with a rubber duckie floathing in it. I don’t have a watch, and so for exams I always brought out this silly thing I got as a present once. You could also shake it to mix the blue and the transparent liquid: works great against exam stress, and it makes other people smile too.

  266. Angela says:

To make scarlet the main event, I’d pair it with taupe or else a darker shade like chocolate or an inky indigo so it could really, as we say, “pop”. I’d pair the putty with a deep purple as you have here, E. These scarves are pretty.

  267. Beth says:

    Putty with teal or purple

  268. Beth says:

As far as memorable outfits. I had a 8 am final and I woke up at 7:45. So I ran in my flannel pajamas across campus to take the exam.

  269. Larkin says:

Either one with a deep purple! I love purple. It seems your model might agree, as well…

(fun blog, btw! I just found it not too long ago, myself…)

  270. Larkin says:

As for the finals outfit… well, once I proctored a final after an evening “out,” so I’m pretty sure that ensemble was not everything it could have been. As I don’t remember it through my misery, however, I’ll share instead that I have lucky jewelry, including a celtic knot-inspired ring and a turtle pendant with moving legs, which I’ll wear with any and all finals outfits – pajamas or not.

  271. leighcia says:

Thanks for hosting this giveaway! I would wear the scarlet scarf with either black or purple.

  272. Ariel says:

I’d wear the putty with cream or light blue!

  273. another a says:

i’ve been putting red with deep purple lately, i’m sure my students were tired of it by the end of the semester!

  274. another a says:

for big exams – like my phd quals – i just threw on the biggest comfiest tshirt and layered. i think it helped me focus on the test and i didnt’ have to try hard to be comfortable!

  275. ann says:

    putty with teal! <3 teal!

also, in undergrad, i wore a red hoodie with bears printed on it and blue plaid pajama pants. in flip flops. NOT pretty.

  276. jess says:

i’d wear the scarlet with plum

  277. Michelle says:

I’d match the putty with a deep blue.

  278. Michelle says:

The worst outfit I’ve worn to a final exam was my clothes from the day before (I spent the night in the library), with uggs. I looked truly terrible.

  279. Elizabeth says:

It looks like the scarves already have a little shine and texture. I therefore think the Putty scarf could look interesting in a monochrome look – mix of tans and browns, maybe of different materials.

  280. Elizabeth says:

Worst but most comfortable exam outfit – a weeklong take home exam – spent the week in sweats/PJs.

  281. ChaiAmWoman says:

Scarlet with a light greyish blue. Putty with a deep pumpkin-y orange!

  282. ChaiAmWoman says:

Worst finals ensemble? I used to have this really comfy (but oh-soooo-ugly) pair of “lounge” pants. Well, they WERE pants before I cut the bottom part of the leg off leaving the whole thing in just an awkward cut. They were a dark gray and had our team’s mascot written across the bum. I wore those with Birkenstocks and the rattiest sweatshirt I could find. Not sure why but finals really brought out the worst in my fashion sense. Ha!

  283. Diana says:

I would love the scarlet scarf :) I need to get out of my comfort zone of ONLY wearing neutrals, so I think the scarlet would work great as a pop of color on one of my standard all black outfits!

  284. Diana says:

AND, the worst thing I ever wore to a final would have to be an outfit from the night before…I can’t remember the exact outfit, but I went out the night before a physics final, and didn’t go to sleep (final was at 8 am, didn’t get back home til almost 5, figured I’d stay up rather than go to sleep and risk sleeping through my alarm (i have an unfortunate habit of doing that)) So, I attended the final with a party outfit, with dishevelled hair and smelling of cigarettes. (ewww)

  285. Miranda says:

The scarlet would be perfect with black tweed (perfect color punch for cold treks from one MLA hotel to another!).

As for finals….I ruined a perfect track record of coordinated ensembles in spring ’01 when I overslept by 40 minutes for my Shakespeare exam. I jumped out of bed, raced across campus, and showed up in my pajamas: a tshirt and a pair of blue boxer briefs. Hot.

  286. A. Beth says:

The worst thing I ever wore to an exam was gasoline on my clothes. I was running late and out of gas so I had to fill up my car quickly. I though the gas pump clicked off, but it was still running when I pulled it out. I spilled gas all over my pants and shoes (Ugg boots). I had no extra clothes or time to change so I had to go to my 3 hour spanish exam with gas all over me. 15 minutes into the exam, students began asking the teacher if they could step outside to get fresh air (there were no windows!) because they were going to be sick from the fumes. I was SOO embarassed!

  287. A. Beth says:

I would match the putty scarf with dark green (specifically a dark green wrap dress I just bought!)

  288. mbbored says:

The first time I’d wear the putty scarf, it’d be a vibrant green. I love bright greens with my red hair, and the putty scarf would tame it just a little while adding class.

  289. mbbored says:

My worst finals outfit was for a physics exam. I’d overslept, with 5 minutes to get across campus and in the classroom before the professor blocked the door. So, I raced out in my worn out men’s XL night shirt, signed by my middle school co-campers and pink plaid boxer shorts. Add in the mental image of me being 5 ft and 105 lbs so the shirt was waaaaay too big and my surprisingly large chest a little unsupported.

  290. Kristie says:

I actually love the way both scarves look with the pictured eggplant purple. I would pair the putty with blue, light pink…pretty much anything would work with that great neutral color. Scarlett would look great worn with an olive or grey top.

  291. Michelle says:

Love both scarves – I would pair the putty with mustard and scarlet with navy or teal.

The worst thing I’ve worn to a final exam was my high school uniform, a terrible turquoise bib-like pinafore with white short slleve cotton button down shirt. The pinafore top gaped on either side, argh.

  292. Jennifer says:

I love the scarves. I’m in a grey and brown phase right now, so I’d wear the scarlet scarf for a punch of color. Alternatively, I’d wear the khaki color with the browns for a more monochromatic look.

Thanks for such a great blog!!!

  293. Rebecca says:

I would pair the scarlet scarf with a purple knit dress I have – I *love* the purple & red combination!

  294. Rebecca says:

“Best exam outfit” is completely relative, of course, but it was a pair of slacks with my favourite (at the time) red sweater because I had a shift at work after my exam.

  295. Mandy says:

Love them! I think the putty would look great with olive green :)

  296. Mandy says:

Well, I’m pretty sure that anything I ever wore to a final exam would not be in my wardrobe now :) I probably wore lots of sweats.

  297. teri says:

i would pair the putty with a light cream or khaki. i know, the monchrome may sound kinda boring, but, for example, this scarf could really perk up a khaki colored dress or pants suit, suitable for spring/summer conferences or classes.

So, the light texture of the scarf would compliment as well this outfit as well.

thanks for doing this – how nice!

    teri

  298. teri says:

the worst outfit i ever wore to an exam was a turtleneck sweater. I believe it was a wool sweater on top of that. SOOOO itchy, i then discovered 1) i hate turtle necks and 2) i may be slightly allergic to wool.

BAD time to discover this during a 3 hour exam. lol…..

    teri

  299. the red would look smashing against a dark brown coat!

    whatwouldanerdwear.blogspot.com

  300. and the worst final exam outfit ever: in college, my alarm didn’t go off for an art history exam. i woke up five minutes before the exam was going to start. needless to say, i arrived in pajamas and slippers. eep!

  301. Courtney says:

As a law student, I have to wear boring suits to work. So I would pair the scarlet scarf with my gray wool suit!

    Great scarves!

  302. Courtney says:

My worst finals outfit – one of my classmates made my three study buddies and me matching t-shirts. She gave them to us right before the final started and asked us all to go and change into them. We were sitting in the front of the classroom and all matched perfectly in front of the other 100 students in our class. So, I would say my worst finals outfit was matching my friends…

  303. Julia says:

I would pair the putty scarf with a white or off-white and the scarlet with a deep plum or maroon.

  304. Julia says:

One of my “best” outfits I’ve worn to an exam in college was a fitted blue t-shirt with a picture of Dylan McKay from 90210 screen printed on it with his name below. I loved that shirt (and still have it.) It was from Hot Topic and I got it as a gift from one of my closest friends several years after the [original] show ended. And yes, this is probably the “best” out of all the outfits I’ve worn to exams.

  305. A-C says:

I would match the scarlet with black or dark grays. I would match the putty with dark purples and greens.

  306. A-C says:

Most memorable outfit to an exam would definitely include polar pj pants I “borrowed” from a guy friend of mine. The reason I love them is that men’s pj pants have pockets!

  307. nalani says:

I think that putty with a black or charcoal grey could be stand-out daywear. And, for night, putty with rockin’ orange could do the trick!

  308. Boyda says:

I would enjoy the putty with olive, or perhaps just with black for a toned-down neutral look.

  309. Phee says:

The scarlet scarf is gorgeous! I would pair it with an ivory sweater, brown tweed slacks, and brown boots, with a turquoise bangle to add a little bit of contrast.

  310. Phee says:

As for worst final exam outfit… well, what sticks out more in my memory is worst choice of writing implement for a final exam. During my sophomore year of college, I wrote a French final with my sparkly, blue pen, topped with a glittery blue butterfly and matching pouf of marabou. The butterfly was on a spring, and so it “fluttered” in a rather manic fashion as I wrote. Halfway through the exam, my professor asked me if I could please use another pen… I didn’t have one, so he had to lend me one. I was so embarassed!

  311. abbi says:

I love pairing scarlet with brown! I could see myself combining it with more structured browns or ivories for a daytime look. For something more vibrant, I’d go with a scarlet and purple combo.

  312. Liz says:

I would wear the scarlet scarf with gray. I love a good red/neutral color combo :)

  313. Liz says:

Worst final exam outfit? I wore white short shorts and 4″ heels to a final once. On top of that, it started raining on my way to class. Worried if I looked ridiculous through my entire Chinese exam. Even PJ pants would have been a better choice that day…

  314. cindy says:

i have a great pair of wide-leg grey herringbone wool pants that I would pair with the putty scarf and putty-ish colored heels.

  315. cindy says:

My worst exam outfit was during fall semester exams at UVM. The ground was horribly slushy and I wore a pair of wool pants that acted as a wick and completely soaked my legs up to my knee; I shivered the whole 3 hours.

  316. Anna says:

I would pair the scarlet with turqoise, but keep the rest of the textures and lines simple, and no patterns. We need more vibrancy around this time of the year!

In fact, it would go fabulously with the rest of my wardrobe ;) I’d wear it with my grecian dress in the same colour; I would wear it with grey, I would wear it with plum… aaah.

  317. Anna says:

Exam outfit: we had a set dresscode in my uni, so I wore a black suit with white button downs like everyone else. However, the women had to wear a black ribbon tied at their neck – everyone else had a standard silk ribbon tied in a bow; I had a velvet ribbon tied like a necklace.

  318. Melissa says:

Thanks for the giveaway! I would pair the putty with this new bright blue sweater I just bought.

  319. Carla says:

I would match putty with some red…with the scarlet, I would match cream or black.

  320. Kate says:

I would match the scarlet scarf with my new favourite colour to wear this season… grey! I know that’s kind of boring, but the scarf would gift my safe and “blah” outfits a pop of interest.

  321. Kate says:

As for the best/worse finals outfit… to be honest, I can’t remember! I do know, however, that for my last standardized test (the GRE), I wore dark denim trousers, a teal ruffly top, and a grey cardigan. It was comfortable but not too casual, and a cardigan is always nice for temperature control.

  322. five tomatoes says:

Love the putty! I’d like to try it with a deep dark green sweater and a white oxford.

  323. five tomatoes says:

Best finals outfit: My last two years of college I worked two jobs at the mall and during fall semester had to work after class, so I know I sat through more than one final in that year’s tall boots from Naturalizer, a denim pencil skirt, and that year’s black turtleneck from The Limited.

Worst finals outfit: In high school, probably: Powder blue windpants from the track team and a nasty practice shirt, paired with yellow sneakers and pre-wrap in my hair.

  324. Ariana says:

i love the scarlet! ive been meaning to buy a red scarf! i’d wear it with my black sweater dress to add a pop of color

  325. Ariana says:

the worst outfit i’ve worn to a final was a pair of bright blue sweat pants with a green hooded sweater and boots

  326. hmmm… I think I’d pair either the silver and ivory or the gold and ivory for next weekend’s Neighborhood Crawl. I’m already planning to wear a lovely grey dress with my fabu CO boots (see 2nd image in my Denver post) and some fun textured tights I have yet to pick out at Target.
I’ve decorated the house in shades of gold, silver and bronze for the holidays, and I’m *loving* the mix and sparkle.
    :-)
    ~Em

  327. Erin says:

I would pair the putty scarf with my new Any Taylor Loft cashmere v-neck sweater in a beautiful sky blue color. I’d complete the outfit with navy blue wide leg trousers and brown plaid flats from Target. :)

P.S. – LOVE your blog. It’s my new addiction. :)

  328. Erin says:

    Worst outfit to exam:

Brown Birkenstocks with blue stocks, blue tie-dyed jeans and an orange mid-driff baring polo shirt. What can I say? It was high school. I had no idea what I was doing! haha

  329. Heidi says:

I would pair the scarlet scarf with a royal blue top, because red and blue are wintry yet so bright and cheerful against the grey skies here.

  330. Heidi says:

    Worst finals outfit:

high-water jeans, tennis shoes and an off-white fleece hoodie that desperately needed a bath.

  331. Ris says:

I’d wear that red scarf with black and khaki. I have a ton of black and dark khaki because its so easy to dress up quickly and easily with a fun pop of color. Maybe I should branch out more but a beautiful brightly-colored scarf is a step in the right direction.

  332. Sue says:

Thanks for the giveaway, lovely ladies! I’d pop the scarlet scarf against my gray pinstripe skirt and navy sweater.

  333. Sue says:

My favorite finals outfit was simple, save for the details: bootcut stretch black pants with cargo pockets and a simple cobalt blue sweater. I felt a bit like a spy pulling my TI-85 out of the pants pockets and I think that little bit of swagger helped me ace my calculus II exam. :-)

  334. Cassie says:

I would match the scarlet with my new favorite outfit, a grey and black color block dress, a deep vibrant purple cardigan and grey tights and my high black boots.

  335. Cassie says:

my worst finals outfit was definitely slept in hair ( i thought it had more volume, but it just told everyone i didn’t shower) a grey school hoodie and black pajama pants covered in red chili peppers. and sneakers. oh undergrad.

  336. Sara says:

I would love to add the scarlett color to a plain white or black tee. Possibly a gray cardigan. This way it’s perfect for all seasons.

  337. Sara says:

too many of my outfits for finals are from the day before after studying all night in the library, and covered in coffee stains

  338. Maggie says:

I’d pair the putty scarf with green (like A., it’s my favorite color)!

  339. susan behrens says:

I woul love the berry scarf and it’s not too original but i would wear it with my black sweater dress.

  340. Maggie says:

As for final exams outfits, I’m usually a pretty solid jeans-and-sweatshirt type- I’d rather be comfy and able to easily curl up in my chair as I write than be dressed up.

  341. susan says:

I don’t really remember what I wore except it was usally jeans and a sweat shirt. I was working full time and had two kids at home, I was just glad if my clothes were cleaned.

  342. Rose says:

I would LOVE the putty with blue scarf!

  343. Rose says:

When I was in undergrad, I took several summer classes. I went out with a friend for her 21st birthday the night before one of my finals for my summer class. I ended up wearing the same outfit to class the next day at 8am. I did however get an A in the class. I just smelled like a bar and probably should of had more covering me. White tube tops are not the best exam taking clothes.

  344. Starr says:

I would absolutely love to pair the putty scarf with pumpkin orange :)

  345. r says:

I’d pair the scarlet scarf with black. Boring, I know…but I’d need to have the scarf and hold it up to what I have to see what other color combos would work :)

  346. Miranda says:

Best exam outfit? What I wore to my dissertation defense: a royal purple empire waist dress, brown crock pointy-toe heels, a blazer and layered brown/amber beaded necklace!

Then, to celebrate that night, dump the blazer, add a black cami and black patent peep-toe pumps. Perfect for cocktails and fancy dinner.

  347. ecochic says:

I would pair putty with a deep green, and scarlet with an off-white, sort of cream. I think a red really pops well with whites, and become wonderful focal points.

  348. r says:

For finals I usually wore a college sweatshirt with jeans and running shoes. Nothing particularly horrible.

  349. I’d match putty with turquoise/light blue, red or any neutral. Scarlett would go with other neutrals and green during the holidays.

  350. I’d match the orange with teal! I really hope I win this!!! :)

  351. sometimes spongebob is stingy and annoying.~~
