On Sunday, T’s last full day here, we enjoyed a matinee opera performance of Hänsel and Gretel. Since it was a mid-day performance and a children’s opera, I decided to have some fun with my outfit. Enter floral tights.

I’ve been seeing floral tights everywhere this season. And you know me and floral; a match made in heaven. First I saw this amazing photo featuring these gorgeous floral leggings by German designer Michael Michalsky in a recent issue of sleek. magazine for art and fashion:

Then, I drooled over Jessica’s amazing floral tights collection over at What I Wore, particularly smitten by her black lace ones and these gorgeous red and white ones. I have also noticed that Modcloth has been carrying some gorgeous specimens of floral leg wear, such as these black floral leggings and these dramatic ‘Staffordshire’ tights.

Since the tights are rather colorful and quite the statement piece on their own, I kept the rest of the outfit monochromatic black. Gray and pink in the shoes and clutch pull on colors already present in the outfit, so they don’t compete with the existing look. My tights got a lot of looks on the subway and at the opera and I’m pretty certain that they were the envy of every 9 – 12 year old girl there. I can’t wait to see how else I can wear these puppies. Great tights.

  2. Sara says:

I love those tights! So fun and fresh for winter! Sounds like such a fun Sunday – how was the opera?

  3. Tricia says:

Very nice! I love patterned tights. I used to collect them, but it’s been years since I wore any. This is giving me some new ideas – I may start the collection up again!

  4. Sally says:

Those are such fun! I bet they’d look fantastic with a more colorful outfit, too … even if it’s mainly solids.

  5. Those tights are fantastic, S., and I love the detailing on that belt! What’s in the lovely photo with the earrings? Postcards and what else? It’s such a pretty, romantic shot!

  6. Matilde says:

I think you are right pairing those tights with a nuetral, but I think given the pastel shade, I would choose neutrals in lighter shades – beige, cream, grayeige. Similar to the decision you made with the shoes. Black and pastels are tricky to put right next to each other.

  7. Nadine says:

Those tights are dazzling! I’d be interested to see them with colours other than black.

  8. Winona says:

A perfectly executed outfit, if I do say so myself! And THOSE TIGHTS ARE AMAZING. You look gorgeous. :)

  9. jentine says:

You are too funny. Ain’t no shame in making a bunch of pre-teens jealous… The tights give the dress a whole new dimension.

Love tights. Also I can not help and stop myself thinking about the same outfit with black shoe?
