Endnotes:
Today’s outfit was totally inspired by my desire to wear argyle – a preppy pattern I love but don’t actually wear that much anymore (except my ridiculous collection of argyle socks).  The argyle print was one of the many reasons the birthday gift scarf from S. was so perfectly me!  The lovely turquoise and olive diamond pattern reminded me of this old J Crew short-sleeved sweater.

When I first got this sweater years ago, I wore it all the time.  However, as my style has shifted some, I’ve struggled with how to wear it in a way that still feels like me.  So, I amped up the color palette and went a little layering crazy and ended up with this cozy analogous spectrum of greens and blues, accented by what better than caramel corduroy!

What pattern do you love but struggle to work into your daily wardrobe?

SUPER cute! I love all the layering in the first pic–very nice!

  2. Luinae says:

Analogous colour combinations are always so hard for me to pull off- I feel like I couldn’t quite match my outfit properly!

You, however, do it very, very well.

  3. Clare says:

The addition of the corduroy jacket is so great!

  4. Mariel says:

I just love the argyle and layering here! I have two argyle sweaters that need some love so I think I’m gonna copy what you’ve done here…

  5. Lauretta says:

I love the layers….there’s no such thing as too much layers especially in cold weather. I can’t wait to see you mess around with the poker dot dress from target because I need idea! too

  6. Goober says:

I absolutely adore the layering in this look!

  7. Danielle says:

I like the layering, and would have loved this outfit…but that belt makes this outfit look AWFUL. I know you guys love your belts, but you can’t just throw them on everything.

  8. This is AMAZING! I love love love!

  9. Christina W. says:

I like this intense layering! Very winter-friendly, and the colors keep it interesting.

I have trouble wearing PLAID. I only like classic plaids on skirts or button-downs, but they both have negative associations in my mind (schoolgirls and cowboys, respectively).

I love my argyle socks too! Funny thing, last year during the winter holidays I was at my parents’ house and my grandmother (rather old-fashioned, but means well) looks at my feet and says “Why would you wear men’s socks?” I honestly didn’t understand, as they were women’s socks and argyle-patterned. Apparently, I didn’t realize that once upon a time ago, argyle was reserved for men’s fashion. Just another “man”-style fashion that has moved mainstream to all people, which is nice :-)

Anyways, I still love my argyle socks :-)

  11. i love the argyle! i used to have a gray argyle sweater vest–it sounds nerdy, but don’t be fooled; men were falling all over themselves for that sweater vest–but it was lost during my move to the midwest (oh well).

argyle and a corduroy blazer is kind of an ironic tenured chemistry professor vibe–and it looks great here.

  12. Sally says:

You look like you walked out of a J.Crew catalog, doll … and you KNOW that’s a compliment!

  13. Kim says:

I have a strong love of argyle and have to restrain myself at Target since they seem to have a run on them every year for the last few years now. I love this outfit.

  14. Unnati says:

I love this outfit! It looks very put together. Nice color combination.

  15. ShopKim says:

I love the argyle under the cardi! The color combi is great and it has such a modern yet classic look.

  16. This look exudes the essence of chic scholar! It’s perfect!

  17. Diana says:

I love all the layering here!

  18. [...] one of those mornings and I was running late, and I took a deep breath and thought to myself, “What would A. wear?” And it worked! I pulled out a full skirt, a camisole, t-shirt, and light cardigan for layering, a [...]

  19. [...] and I liked it. I was reminded of the joys of belting over a sweater last week when dressing for A’s birthday tribute since she is a pro at belting. For this outfit I folded my favorite vintage scarf, double knotted it in the back, and tucked the [...]
