Lauren – thanks, I know it’s good to get that reminder some time! I appreciate the heads-up, but I actually have still been toiling away at the diss. I’m not writing it yet, I just finished my proposal and it’s now circulating among tenured faculty, so I’m waiting to hear from them. Meanwhile, I get to do some really enjoyable archival research here at the city library, so that’s keeping me occupied.

Maybe tell me that again once I’m a year into it and will likely be looking to fill my days with anything non-dissertation related! Congrats on pulling it together and finishing, from what I’ve seen, a 1/2 year late is still waaaay better than many!

I hope this isn’t too presumptuous to ask, but as someone who finished grad school 1/2 a year late due to prolonged procrastination, I do feel compelled to mention it…from the blog reader’s perspective, you seem to be talking more about your novel than your diss. Is Nanowrimo distracting you from your dissertation? For a long time, I denied to myself that my procrastination was impacting my work but it was. I think it’s important to be honest with yourself. Anyway, I apologize if this is overstepping to ask this. I just wish someone had posed that question to me when *I* was avoiding the diss. I know it’s tough to tackle something so big and other things can seem much more appealing! I probably would have finished earlier and been significantly less stressed about it!
