I wear these brown plastic earrings often but have never really pointed them out. As a historian of modern and contemporary art, I need to just point out their fabulous material – Bakelite!
Bakelite Earrings, originally uploaded by academichic.I love the way sweater vests look on other people and do think it generally fits with my style, but I hadn’t been able find the one that worked for me. They were to short, too long, too tight, too loose, had too much hardware, etc. and then I found this one! It’s the perfect length, has the perfect v-neck, tiny buttons, and the great braided weave detail.

I think the sweater vest looks terrific here–it’s a flattering fit and I love the green and black together–it conjures up a crisp day spent reading somewhere cozy.
I have been following your blog for quite some time, really inspiring.
It would be a great layering piece. Over a dress (maybe even a summery floaty one to “autumn it uP” a bit?), or shirt and skirt. Or button-down shirt, sweater vest, then blazer for a more academic look?
I love the sweater vest too. I don’t know why but I’ve always had a thing for vests, and this longer one looks so nice.
This is a beautiful look on you. I love sweater vests, too. Vests of any description, really. I think you could wear it with pretty much anything you would wear a cardi with. Try it open, too. It looks like it would have a lovely drape.
I like the vest! Looks good on you.
I think you’ve styled it perfectly. And as sweater vests go, that’s a challenging one with the long length and buttons … but I love it on ya!
You look great!!!
I love it! I think it creates a proportion on you that you don’t often use, and it turned out very flattering! I could also see it worn over a fitted dress maybe?
I’m not a fan of vests since I had to wear one to work every day for three years when I was in college. I also feel like sweater vests tend to conjure up images of football coaches yelling on the sidelines. However, it’s a look that you’ve pulled off really well. I too think it could work on you with a fitted dress or belted with the denim pencil skirt that you wear a lot.
I love sweater vests, but they’re hard to find. They’re great for layering, and they keep you warm but not sweaty or feeling bulky. You’re right, A: it’s all about the proportions of the vest. It has to be the right length and not too loose.
It’s actually a super flattering fit! I think you made it work, and I look forward to seeing how you style it in the future!
That one is just lovely! As far as sweater vests go, most of mine are sans buttons, which I like but definitely effects the styling options for them.
Love the background for your picture. And you are rocking the vest!
I wore a sweater vest to work today too! I think it looks great on you!
I rocked the sweater vest during my early teen years, but I don’t find modern sweater vests preppy, but hipster!
wow, super waist-elongating! makes me wonder how I can get away with wearing such an outfit everyday.
I spent several moments gazing at the amazing photo before I started reading – well worth the effort!
I love vests. :)
I’ve always loved sweater vests! I do have a soft spot for preppy style, though. :)
I think you look spectacular, my friend!
