I like how some of the browns almost look purple, when you put so many different browns together. Hope that makes sense :)

You guys look fall fabulous (that sounds like a Macy's tagline...).
Anyways, I'm surprised at what you keep coming up with considering you left your closet at home....
And who's the temp pup? So cute...

I live in the south of Sweden - and most of the year we have a cold and very damp climate with a great amount of gray skies. For some reason this has also translated into fashion.

If you walk the streets of a typical Swedish city you will see a parade of black, white and gray. Nothing wrong with neutrals, they can look amazing combined and do outstanding work as a backdrop for other colors... But wearing them all the time and looking at them all the time... I wonder - wouldn't our mood and outlook on life - as a society - improve on some level with more color? Especially in a country when it gets pitch black at five (or sometimes four) pm in the winter months. I hope we, as Swedes, can become a little more daring when it comes to color.

But for the time being, I feel very exotic in my pink coat.

(And I have to say, I love, love, love academichic because you inspire me to mix, match and play with my wardrobe instead of conforming to what "everybody else" is wearing)

Hi S!

As an European reader, I totally agree with you. Here in Spain I usually see people dressed in neutrals (there are exceptions, of course) with a pop of colour only in details (earrings/bracelets/necklaces/shoes/bags). I could even say that we can know when somebody is a tourist or a local by looking at the colors. Besides, it is easier to see brighter colours when we have brighter days.

Notwithstanding, there are some brands who make more mixture of colours and textures and prints (like desigual or custo)which are very popular now, but most people mixes them with neutrals as well, in order to keep the balance (courful skirt + black sweater + black tights + black shoes, for instance).

Hope you have a nice time in Munich.

I lived in Germany for two years and I distinctly remember being struck by the differences in clothing between America and Europe.

I noticed more neutrals, heavier textures, and really nice shoes. I wondered at the time if that difference was a result of fewer cars, thus more walkers/public transportation.

Perhaps the clothing withstands the elements better in neutral shades.

Really nice pictures, and thumbs up for your coat!
I don't know if Europeans tend to wear neutrals more than Americans or other people, but I recall the first time I dared to wear a "banned" neutral combo was last winter at Brussels (my first trip to Europe): navy sweater dress just bought from H&M, grey patterned tights and black boots.
It may not seem so daring, but considering my mom has lectured me since I was a child on some color combinations that just didn't go together (like navy and black), it was a big step. (Enjoyed it all day long!)
