End Notes:
A., my husband N., baby e., and another friend went on a fall excursion this weekend to a local “fun farm” for some apple and pumpkin picking. I had to smile when A. showed up on our doorstep to pick us up…although we did not “match” per se, we were wearing essentially the same pieces for our outfits, just done in our preferred color palettes and styles.
Cozy cardigan, belted? Check. Skinnies tucked into boots? Check. Scarf? Check. But while A. played with her signature cool colors, I layered up in my new favorite fall combination of purple, orange, and yellow.
To be honest, my first winter in the Midwest I paid quite a bit of attention to how A. dressed and tried to emulate her classic — but warm — style. Having just moved from the warmer climates of Hawaii and the South, I was still learning how to layer stylishly and effectively and A. provided lots of inspiration. I think today’s outfit proves A.’s worth as my own personal cold weather style icon!
(P.S. We missed you, S.!)

This is a great example of classic Academichic style. Both of you look absolutely fantastic! I love the colour combinations and I adore skinnies tucked into boots. Beautiful!

That is neat that you both turned up wearing similar pieces and colors, even though they are tailored to your individual preferences. You look perfectly comfortable, warm, but stylish for a fall excursion!

Love your site! Any chance you could do a “how to tie / knot a scarf” tutorial? I love the look of yours but have no idea how to do it! :)

I visited the Midwest this weekend and we also went pumpkin picking (less stylishly, though). It was much colder and grayer when we went. Love the fall colors and good to see that you had so much fun!

I never would’ve thought to pair brown boots with gray jeans, but now that I’ve seen it, I like the look. And since I have gray jeans and am planning to get some brown boots this week, I’m anxious to try it myself.
