Endnotes:

It’s been raining on and off for the past few days here, and it even snowed a bit this morning! It’s not so bad actually, after having lived in Salzburg where it rains about 200 days of the year, I’ve developed a few good rainy-day coping mechanisms:

1) Don’t bother straightening hair. It’s pointless.
2) Always carry a cute purse-sized umbrella to pull out at a moment’s notice. Having that available will make a rainy commute much less of a bother.
3) Boots. They keep your feet dry and the bottom of your pants from turning into an upwards-creeping soggy mess.

I once saw a sign in a Colorado storefront window that read something like “There is no bad weather, only bad clothing”. I too have found that given the proper attire, most weather is manageable and even enjoyable. If there were only sunny days, I wouldn’t get to snuggle with a cup of hot tea, acquire a collection of fun and colorful umbrellas, wear fun wellies to go puddle splashing with my dog, or watch the streets turn glossy and shiny with beautiful reflections of the colored buildings in the rain. Don’t you agree? S.

PS: Fellow Müncheners, you’ve been good about recognizing my photo backdrops thus far! Do you know where I’m standing today? (I can see this turning into a fun game…

This is so pretty! I love all the use of color!

  2. Goannatree says:

Looking good! Living in Scotland I am following most of the same rules, except the wind here makes umbrellas useless…so scarves that can be turned into chic audrey hepburn-esque hoods are an alternative!

  3. Mari says:

No, no idea where you were standing today!
These containers and the coloured houses seem to be quite new, and I left 4 years ago …. give me a hint! ;-))
The weather in Bavaria at the moment is really bad. Snow in october is far to early!
(But you really look cute even in this weather!)

@Mari – I’m standing by a Naturschutzgebiet and that colorful building behind me is ein Einkaufszentrum…

    S.

  5. Sal says:

Love those colorful layers! And I agree: One can truly dress for any weather and be comfortable. It’s just that weather can be SO unpredictable!

  6. Isa says:

phew, I’m suffering from the munich weather, too!!!
I have an invitation for you: my boyfriend will inaugurate his exhibition that will show his photographs taken in eastern europe this summer: http://www.aforgottenpromise.blogspot.com

If you’d like to join the vernissage, you’re heartly welcome!

  7. Clare says:

Love the bright scarf! And I totally understand about straightening your hair; as soon as I moved to a humid/rainy climate, I gave up any attempts to have straight hair. And then I chopped it all off.

  8. Mari says:

At first I thougt you are at the Riem Arkaden. But then I saw the Olympiaturm in the back, you must be somewhere in the north of München. I need another hint! ;-)))

  9. Chiada says:

I completely agree with you and the sign in the Colorado store. Where I live we don’t get much rain and when we do, people act like “Ohmygoshitsrainingihavetostayinsideordriveeverywhere!!!” Meanwhile, I am without my car for a few weeks so I have to walk and take buses. Which means there’s no crying when it’s raining! I’ve had to wrap up in my boots, rain coat, and umbrella and brave the weather and, you know what? I like it! It’s not that bad! I stayed completely dry and warm. I’m sure everybody driving by looked at me like either I was crazy or they pitied me, but seriously, people shouldn’t get so whiney when there’s a little bit of rain. I thought to myself, “Why can’t we still walk and bus in the rain? People do it all the time in other areas of the world, like Seattle (or Salzburg)..otherwise, you’d always be inside if you never went out when it rained.” Anyways, that’s my two cents. Except I do need a pair of comfortable rain boots in a wide calf because I’m having to wear my snow boots which makes me feel a little silly. Oh well.

“There is no bad weather, only bad clothing” — YES! This is exactly why I got Hunters wellies.

  11. mamichan says:

PS — you’re on the velocouture blog here. :)

  12. T says:

You are so cute. I agree with the weather/clothing sentiment. I always dress for the weather, and I walk everywhere, even when the temperature is well below freezing. I have cozy boots and smartwool socks to keep my feet warm.

I just bought myself a pair of Boggs, and I LOVE them. So cute for the rain. Bring it on, Mother Nature.

  13. T says:

Oops, make that Bogs, with on G. http://www.bogsfootwear.com/

I swear I am not affiliated with them in any way.

  14. Christina says:

Definitely saving up for Hunter wellies. I resisted for almost 2 years…but Chicago’s near impossible without rain boots.

  15. Nadine says:

I love the green-on-green top and bag. I always love your green bag when you pair it with another green component – brava!

Where I live it rains a lot and is inevitably windy. I walk to work, so it is COATS, baby. I have quite a few!

  16. admin says:

@Isa – I would love to attend! I just spent some time looking over the website and I’m interested in the topic of Roma minorities as well, so I would love to be there. When is the event? Thanks!

@Mari -wow, I’m impressed, I didn’t even notice the Olympiaturm in the fog behind me! Hmmm…another hint…the transport I took to get to said spot is synonymous with the name of a popular British band! ;)

@Mamichan – thanks, didn’t see the Velocouture post, how awesome!

Thanks, also, for the tips about the Bogs and Hunters wellies! S

  17. Isa says:

    Dear S,

the inauguration will be on November 6th at the “Freie Kunstwerkstatt” (Dachauerstraße 42)

  18. admin says:
