Earlier this week, I received this surreptitious email from E., regarding A.’s birthday:
What if we each wear an A-inspired outfit that day as our homage to A-style? :) Let me know what you think.”
What did I think? Great idea! After all, they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and we definitely think A. is one of the coolest and most stylish people we know! Happy Birthday, A., I miss you and wish I were there to celebrate this special day with you in person! Instead, I’m just going to roam the streets of Munich as a little A. clone, infusing Germany with a dose of A.-inspired style!
Happy Birthday, A!, originally uploaded by academichic. While yellow is decidedly not an A. go-to, I chose this top because I wanted to recreate one of my favorite A. looks: the layered ruffle top under a cardi. It’s such a pretty and elegant combination and I love how A. uses it to soften up an otherwise somber professional look.
I chose the brown cardigan wrap and green skirt because I instantly thought neutrals or greens and blues when I pictured an A. inspired color palette. A. mixes neutrals like a pro and rocks beautiful combinations of blues and greens that go wonderfully with her light hair and blue eyes. A belt of course finishes the look!

I hope you all have a wonderful day celebrating and have a (sulfite-free) drink on my behalf as well! S.

Happy Birthday A.! Your homage looks great.
What a great way to celebrate A’s birthday from afar!
This is such a sweet idea (and happy happy birthday, A!!!)! One of my favorite color combinations is a mustardy golden yellow with green, and I love how you paired them with the earthier color. The detailing on your blouse is beautiful, too. I’ve so enjoyed your European photos – you look great as you travel!
What a sweet idea! Happy birthday, A!
[...] S. and I are paying homage to A-style today, and this is my interpretation of an A-worthy outfit. While S. riffed off of A.’s adept layering of ruffles under a cardigan, I’m playing with some of A.’s signature colors: shades of blue green. A. definitely knows how to work this color palette, and she always looks great in it. [...]
Perfectly A-inspired! Love how you’ve made it your own with the yellow blouse.
LOVE those colours, especially the greens with the yellow. Happy Birthday, A!
i’m not sure if you meant to reveal A’s name or not, but earlier when I read this post, it said Anna. Well, however you refer to her, this is definitely A-style. Love the yellow top with the ruffles!
