End Notes:
I’ve been hankering to try some new looks involving more high waisted skirts, a proportion that was unworkable while I was still sporting my baby bump. Since my residual bumpage continues to keep me out of my pre-preggers pencil skirts and higher-waisted pants, I’m trying to find ways to create the illusion of a high waist by experimenting with pieces that do fit.
When I wore my thrifted floral skirt last week, the wide belt helped to create a higher-waist line and, as an added bonus, gave some control and structure to my post-baby jiggles. Today, I unrolled the top panel of a jersey skirt — usually worn lower on the hips — and hiked it up with a skinny reptile belt. I let the excess fabric fall in folds above the belt, essentially ending up with a ruching-like effect. A tucked in cami and a swinging cardi keep the lines clean while still allowing for some movement.
How do you all feel about high waisted-ness? I admit that I retain some degree of skepticism; it’s difficult to erase memories of high waisted pants flattening out bottoms nationwide in decades past. And yet, when done well, it can be such a ladylike silhouette. And for me personally, given my torso of epic lengths, higher-waisted skirts and pants help balance out my overall proportions. How do you do high waists?

The high waist is so cute on you! I think it’s definitely easier to pull off such a look when you’re tall and/or have a longer torso. I’m short and have a really short, almost non-existent torso, so higher waistlines always look a little strange on me.
What a pretty cardigan! I’m also short-waisted so I admire the high waisted look from afar, haha!
Definitely a lovely look for you, E. I am not long-torsoed, but adore high-waisted skirts as I feel they draw attention to my meagre boobage. High-waisted pants, on the other hand, make me look a mess!
I am a HUGE fan of high-waisted skirts (though have yet to find successful pants), and have also taken skirts that normally sit lower on the hips, hiked them up and belted them for a totally different silhouette that is super flattering.
I am in love with high waisted pencil skirts- trousers are a bit too “mom jean” for me. But skirts give a really feminie and flattering look. Like Chealsea said, you can make skirts that sit lower sit higher. I haven’t tried that yet but I will!
This is one of my favorite ways to wear my navy jersey skirt! I’m a huge fan of high-waistedness, as it makes oddly-proportioned torsos more ambiguous in their dividing lines.
I love this look on you, however I have the opposite problem Sal does. I avoid high waisted skirts b/c they draw attention to my overly ample boobage lol.
This outfit looks gorgeous on you, and I love the color scheme!
I am short, an hourglass, and have a short waist, but I have serious love for high waisted pencil skirts. I wear them all the time! I think it is one of the most feminine silhouettes. I am on the hunt for some high waisted trousers next.
I love the look and that you are so wonderfully bridging the gap between pre-baby and post.
