Endnotes:

After spending my day getting things done around town and at home, T. got home and suggested we go out for an impromptu last date night. It didn’t really take much convincing for me to get changed and be ready to go. Really, I think he was still finishing his sentence while I was already on the way to my closet to pull out something festive for our last proper date before I leave. We decided to revisit the restaurant at which we had our wedding reception just last month, since it carried such special memories and the food had been delicious.

It was a perfect night for sitting outdoors on their patio, sipping mojitos, and enjoying my husband’s company. It was warm enough to wear a simple summer dress one more time, while just breezy enough to snuggle under a cozy pashmina. A perfect night with a perfect date.

Now I’m back to packing and checking off lists. We’re off to visit my parents this weekend where I’ll stay a bit longer to enjoy some time with them before I take off for the year. Moving and departures always get so hectic and all of the sudden you’re trying to remember a zillion things that you can’t live without, so I’m really glad to be able to pull up my packing post and just check off the items as I put them in a suitcase. I’m glad to not have to be making these decisions now as my mind’s on a multitude of things and I can just pack on auto-pilot by following my post. I think there will be some minor adjustments made, (such as my substituting this dress I wore last night, for this other polka-dot dress I had intended to pack…just because…), but other than a few minor changes, I’m set. Have a great weekend, everyone! S.

I was just going to say the same thing – I’ll switch it up and add “gorgeous, as always.” I love your pashmina! What a great color.

Good luck with the packing and the move there! Is T. not able to go with you? That’s hard, I know (all too well, I know this), especially when you are still basking in your newly wedded bliss!

Thanks, you two! I’ve always liked the dress + pashmina combo for an evening look.

Lauren, unfortunately, T. can’t come with me because of his own PhD work in his lab. We’ve known this all along but it’s still hard now that it’s becoming all too real. So while I’m excited to be back in Germany soon, it’s all very bittersweet.

I love pashminas, and you pull them off so well. The pashmina+evening dress is such a chic and colourful look that I love for evening.

I missed your wedding while I was away and have enjoyed catching up. I met my husband during our first year at university and we planned to get married at the end of the pier in the Welsh city where we studied. Unfortunately to get married we needed our birth certificates and my mum had mine and kept making excuses as she realised what we had planned. We got married six months later in a more traditional cereminy but I wold have much preferred our planned quiet wedding.
You look great – the colour of the pashmina suits you.

Holy GirlJesus™ I am In Love with this here website. I only wish y’all had been around when I was in gradual school, I could have avoided the whole Cosby Sweater Fiasco of December 1991.

  7. Kari says:

That sounds like a wonderful date, and perfect opportunity to spend time together before your year in Germany.

Will T. be able to visit you even though he can’t come with you for the whole year?

Two of my good friends each spent nearly a year early in their marriages where they were unable to live with their new husbands due to work commitments or citizenship requirements. In both cases, though they said it was hard being away from their husbands, they wrote to each other and talked on the phone so much that they developed even closer friendships. I’m hoping that the same thing will happen with you and your husband.

Personally, I am delighted that you have more than one polka dot dress! I love polka dots and have to physically restrain myself from buying them all the time.
