This was my outfit to wrap up our week of neutrals last week (writing deadlines kept me from posting).  I felt very sophisticated all week in my all-neutral ensembles and am not sure I am ready to move into a week of brighter color combinations.

I love the the color combination of brown and grey but have been of the mind that it is more of a fall and winter palette.  S.’s lovely use of navy, brown, black has made me reconsider.  I chose a white tee-shirt and turquoise beads to lighten up the look a bit but love the dark charcoal with by beloved brown wedges and the brown in the beads.

I bought this “charcoal” sweater earlier this summer but it has been too warm to wear it.  E. and I bought the same cardigan in different neutral colors and ended up “premiering” them on the same day.  The three of us often purchase the same item in different colors, or the same color for that matter.  Sometimes we will buy them together. Other times, we will fall in love with a piece once we see it on each other and hear how comfortable it is, and then run out and purchase our own.  I do the same thing with my sisters and have never minded sharing a good find.  What about you?  Do you ever buy matching dresses, shoes, or cardigans with friends or family?

Back when I lived in LA, one of my really good friends and I would buy certain items in different colors; there was one time I bought a scarf in blue/white/black, she got it in red/cream/black. I got a cami in blue, she in pink. I miss those days!

I never ever do that. I think I have issues after being yelled at at the age of 12 for buying the same thing as a friend!

  3. Elaine says:

I think you look amazing here! I will buy it if I like it! That is my rule! I don’t care who has it!!!

  4. Sal says:

I usually shop alone, so I don’t generally buy doubles with friends. But a work friend and I naturally gravitate toward the same stuff, and often unintentionally buy doubles!

Love the flower on the straw tote! I’m totally copying that.

Love, love, love this combo! Sleek, casual yet very pulled together! That skirt is a real workhorse piece–very classic.

I have gone shopping with a friend who has warm skintones, while mine are cool. We may pick up the same piece in different colors, but even if we wear them on the same day, each of us puts such an individual spin on them that no one notices the semi-duplication.

I love this outfit! The turquoise necklace, the woven purse with a flower brooch. You look amazing!

I do sometimes copy friends or get the same items as friends, but usually mostly with shoes.

This is your best outfit and picture so far! All the proportions are balanced and flattening. You look beautiful and you have a stunning profile. Well done!

And I’m all over the bag. YUMMY.

  9. angie says:

Ooops. I meant “flattering” and not flattening

    Great outfit!

I have no problem with buying something a friend wears and loves. What my friends wear is a great source of fashion ideas for me. Once my sister and I even owned the same pair of brown pants in the same size!

  11. Dawn says:

Beautiful outfit and I love your handbag! I don’t really tend to buy matching clothes as other friends, mainly because we all have such different tastes as well. However last September, I discovered myself and my new housemate had three pairs of shoes that were the exact same!

    love your tote!

  13. Anna says:

My sister and I always end up with the same clothes. We even showed up to the same parties in college wearing the same outfit completely by accident! My roommates and I always somehow ended up with the same tops in different colors after Christmas break, too. We would just try to not wear them on the same day!

  14. Kari says:

What a smart idea to use a flower brooch on your bag!

I *love* your turquoise beaded necklace.

  15. Little Red says:

Love this look! And that necklace is fabulous!

My friends and I never buy matching stuff. We all have different tastes in clothes. I don’t think I would be into having the same pieces as my friends, as we could risk wearing it at the same time.

However, my best friend and I did unintentionally buy the same prom dress back in high school. Just in different colors. I wasn’t too happy about it at first, but it ended up being cool!

Hi, I’m from the Philipines and I’ve been avidly following your posts for months. You inspired to me to get out of my rut of the “usual” colors. Today, taking cues your outfit, I am wearing a brown ensemble with a green/torquoise necklace and green flats. The girls at the office have been commenting that it is an unusual combination but I love, love it.

    Thank you for inspiring me.

  17. [...] mentioned this shopping trend of ours a month or so ago when E. and I were wearing the same cardigan in different colors. I explained then that owning the same items as these two lovelies has never bothered me and I know [...]
