While nothing I am wearing today actually comes from J. Crew, this is very much a J. Crew inspired ensemble!
J Crew Inspiration, originally uploaded by academichic.Today I have three meetings on campus: with a curator, one with a dean, and one with the chair of my department and the graudate advisor. In between meetings, I am dropping by to visit E. and baby e. and E.’s always-fashionable sister-in-law, P. Each of my meetings will cover three very different projects that needs working on this summer. I am being pulled in all different directions today and need an outfit that works for each. I want to be bright and cheery, yet still business-like, for my meeting with the dean, professional but creative for the meeting with the curator, serious and studious for my meeting with the chair, and soft and cozy for my meeting with baby e.. This is a tall order, I know, but building the ensemble from a mix of neutrals seems to have been the perfect approach.
14 July 2009, originally uploaded by academichic.I finished the look with this handmade belt (totally inspired by J. Crew) made from an old, unused ribbon, and one of the beautiful flowers sent to us from Blue Onion Marketplace. If you would like to make your own, hurry over to this great little online boutique and receive free shipping through July when you use the reader code: ACADFREESH. Happy shopping! -A.

I love the soft colors, fabrics, and shapes of this outfit! Perfect for cuddling a new baby!!
Love this look. Sooo pretty.
You look just beautiful. I am stealing this outfit idea! :)
This is my favorite of the neutral looks so far!
My goodness but this is one of my favorite outfits you’ve done! I had a little mental intake of breath when the photo came up!! You look stunning!
These colours are inspired together. And I like that the skirt has pockets: how useful! You look lovely.
I do like the brooches from the site you listed, but gosh – they are $55! Do you know if a lower cost source?
WOW!! I LOVE this outfit! I think the color combination is just perfect!
That belt just makes the outfit- everything is so soft, but anything but boring. I am very inspired to get crafty this weekend. Just nifty!
Wow, lovely J-crew inspired look. I love your self-made belt!
I bought a couple cheap flower pins from ATL clearance and from a small boutique, but I honestly wonder if I’d have better selection & prices picking some up from a craft store and gluing on pins myself. We’ll see what I find!
You look amazing!! Love this outfit on you.
It made me wonder though, in an effort to remix and keep the blog interesting, do you avoid duplicating outfits even though you loved it? This is a great look on you, but will you not wear it again this exact way since you’ve already done it?
This outfit is really great and actually made me browse through the J Crew site to see if there are more ideas!:)
Those flowers from Blue Onion are simply stunning. Love the improvised belt.
I second ShopKim’s question. I tend to re-wear my favorite outfits over and over again! While you ladies often repeat pieces, I don’t think I’ve ever seen full outfits. Don’t get me wrong-that’s very impressive! I’m just curious :)
I love this J Crew inspired outfit. You look fantastic!
Love the flower! It adds such a nice touch!
You look incredible. I never would have thought to use a broach. How inspired. I want to copy this outfit, exactly.
This is one of your prettiest outfits yet!
This is an excellent color and shape combination for you. Well done.
This outfit is GORGEOUS! I love the combination of neutrals but the slight pleatiness/ruffles/folds of the shirt combined with the DIY flower belt clinches it for me. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors and flowiness of it. You look fantastic!
