Endnotes:

Today I am just running a few errands and studying at a coffee shop.  I have had this skirt for years and  love it.  The problem is, I struggle with what to pair it with.  I have worn it a few times this spring and summer with a brown tee.  I tend to get stuck in a rut when it comes to my few patterned pieces and i just repeat the same ensemble.  I have no problem mixing and matching solids, but prints still scare me a bit. I’, attempting to mix it up today with this teal tee but I think the bag really steals the look today!

Do you share a similar anxiety over pattern? How do you cope?  What would you pair with this print?

Check out my fabulous fabric flower sent to us from Blue Onion Market Place!

Vintage looking fabric flowers have been all over the J. Crew catalogues for a while now, but my latest trip to the mall, I also spotted them attached to tanks and cardigans at Gap, H & M, and the like.  For my tastes, this particular flower is a bit large for the shoulder (though I know S. could pull it off beautifully), so instead I have attached the pin to my favorite old straw bag.   I think it really gives this bag new life and makes it a bit more special.

Blue Onion Marketplace
has generously offered our readers free shipping on flower pin orders (enter code: ACADFREESH).  Check out the great selection of beautiful vintage flowers!

  1. I just stumbled upon Blue Onion Marketplace yesterday. So glad that I held off ordering until today.

Try as I might, I cannot see a pattern on that skirt. It looks like solid white overlaying a light blue. But whatever it is, in the photo it looks very nice with that teal tee, especially with the lace in the neckline.

I really like the teal shirt – very pretty combination! As far as a pattern with a pattern, the one on your skirt is so light and delicate – maybe you could resolve it by wearing a light colored blouse with either light colored vertical stripes or light colored polka dots; you could try to match one of the colors in the skirt pattern too – that way you’re using color staying with the same palette as the skirt. If you keep the pattern a light, neutral color, it would look really pretty and compliment the skirt. A brocade floral might look cool too – large flowers like the one on your bag – and keeping a light top will really showcase that bag…

thanks for the close-up on the fabric…it’s so hard to see it in the full length photo (I have the same problem when taking pictures for my blog). I think your look is great, but you definitely shouldn’t be timid about mixing prints, but I totally know where you’re coming from….Maybe a layered outfit with varying shades of blue (navy, denim, baby blue, etc) would help you mix up the look a bit. When it’s well-done, the more colors and patterns you add, the more your outfit ends up matching!

    Very cute!

Love the addition of the big flower to the straw bag! So summery and fun!

I think pairing the teal shirt with that skirt was a perfect choice, because they compliment each other beautifully. I so have the same fear of patterns. I love when other people mix them daringly, but I never know where to start!
