Endnotes:

I’ve been seeing this look all over recent J.Crew catalogs: shorts worn with a button down top and a cardi or blazer. I don’t wear shorts often (when I do, they’re walking shorts, which are really very different in my mind), but was presented with this pair by my mom upon my arrival home. I decided to make them work for me by academifying them to the nines with that signature J.Crew prep look.

Out came more J.Crew items, like this red-orange button down, creating an analogous color combination with the yellow-orange shorts. And to tone down the bold color of the top, I added a fitted jacket in a neutral navy.

The trouser cut of these shorts, along with all the small details, make these dressy enough to hold their own against the blazer and button down. I may not be quite ready to wear these to the classroom on a teaching day, but the look does feel polished enough for a day on campus or at the library. What do you think? Shorts and blazer – yay or nay? S.

I love it! Omiru (www.omiru.com) actually JUST did a post on fancying up shorts, and mentioned wearing a blazer! I love the color combinations and the overall preppiness of the cuts and styles. You look great!

I think it looks great on you and I love the color combo. For me though, if it’s warm enough that I’m wearing shorts, it’s too warm for a blazer. So I could never see myself wearing them at the same time.

I like this on you much better than on the pictures linked.
I’m not surer what it is, maybe the darker colours.

Of course it just may be that you wear it with such style!

I don’t always like the shorts and blazer combo, but I think it looks awesome on you! I love how it mixes dressy and casual to create a nice summer look.

    Yay, yay, yay!

I normally hate shorts on everyone, but this look is perfectly casual chic, very refreshing, and you’re right, perfect for the library. Enjoy your lovely look!

I am so excited to see these shorts working on you! I tried them on and they looked horrible, but I still loved the sweet little bow. I think the blazer and bold shirt keep them from looking too young or girly. Love it!
