With no money to spend on clothing remixing my existing items of clothing has become all the more important. Layering makes this much easier; you can where an item over and over and have it look very different because it is paired with at least 3 other pieces. With a heat index over 100 layering has become a less-than appealing solution! Interesting color combinations are another great way to mix things up. E. continues to demonstrate the wonders of color mixing for summer, but I think I could use some daily inspiration for this. Perhaps it is time for a summer edition of our Fashion 101 on color. What do you think?
I have tried to be more creative with how I wear pieces, wearing dresses as skirts for example. A couple weeks ago, I wore this dress as a skirt, using the empire top as a wide waist band. This has actually become the usual way for me to wear this, so to mix it up, I am wearing it as a dress! Because unlike S., who wears them beautifully, I don’t do empire waists, and because the smocked band at the top was doing very little for my bust line, I have put this draped cowl neck top over it. I like the pink and brown together and the way the wide waist band gives all this jersey some structure and makes this an easy belt-less look.

I’d love to see you ladies do more color work for summer! This pink-brown combo is a reminder to me that I’m a novice color-mixer when it comes to the likes of you three.
