End Notes:
Throughout this pregnancy, color mixing has been the style element that has remained the most “me.” There are so many garments and silhouettes that I just can’t wear right now, but, thankfully, the ability to play with color combinations remains accessible.
A few days ago it was yellow and turquoise, and today it’s blue-green and orange. Yum. To me, these are both fairly summery combinations — they’re all blue-skies-and-sunshine or oranges-on-trees or tropical-fish-in-tropical-seas — and I started wondering if there are certain color combinations I eschew depending on the season.
I don’t really think there are, actually. I loved it, for example, when A. wore purple and brown in the spring without looking like she should have been dressing for fall. But I do think that there are certain combinations that we associate more with one season or another. Pink and brown seem springy to me, and purple and navy do tend to conjure up images of fall or winter.
What do you think? What are some color mixes that say “summer!” to you? And do you wear them at other times of the year?

I definitely tend to lean towards “season appropriate” colors, but I’m trying to break out of that a bit because it seems silly to deem an adorable purple tank “unsuitable” for summer because of its color. In any case, I love the color combo you have here!
I absolutely LOVE that necklace! It’s so difficult to find an orange necklace lately, with the turquoise and ocean blue trend going on lately. You’ve got to let me know some stores that might have something I’m interested in. The orange is gorgeous.
I think I tend to go with brighter, more saturated color combos for the summer, and muted, duller combos for the fall and winter. The colors you’ve got going on here are just gorgeous. I covet that necklace!
Beautiful necklace! I love how you’ve mixed it into casual every day wear. Brilliant.
You wear the belt below your bump really well. I suspect it works because you aren’t short- legged and you’ve added heels. Well done! You look HOT.
White and yellow are quintessential summer to me. That brings up a query! I adore yellow, but it just doesn’t work on me near my face. So the question is, how do you incorporate colors you find pleasing that don’t “work” on you?
This outfit looks so chic and I love the combination of bright colors with the honey colored belt and sandals. If only we could all look so hot when pregnant!
You get so much wear out of that necklace! I’m amazed at some of the finds people have scored at Forever 21. Hooray for cute bargain jewelry.
Like Diana, I tend to go for brighter colors more often when the sun comes out. I live in the Pacific Northwest and our fall/winter/early springs can be SO gray that really bright colors can look out of place, so I tend to pair them with darker, contrasting colors, whereas this spring I’m more inclined to wear more than one bright in the same outfit.
I tend to break out kelly green and yellow in the spring (not usually together) and wear a lot more brown in the fall, but other than that, there isn’t a lot of difference in what I do/don’t wear.
[...] dresses, honestly, but one way to try and avoid this is to use belts or scarves either above or below the belly to highlight your actual shape. Granted, I just couldn’t be bothered to do this [...]
Hi, just wanted to let you know I love your style and I used your picture (with credit) in a blog post I did about maternity fashion. If you want, though, I can take it down. Just let me know in a comment on my blog or email me. I also used a picture of you from this post:
