This Sunday, T. and I leave for a week long road trip to Colorado with his family and the MGs. I posted a picture with T’s MG before, but I didn’t mention that his reason for owning one is that he grew up as the child of major MG enthusiasts and that he’s always been around people restoring, appreciating, and promoting old historic vehicles. Since being in a relationship with T., I’ve become an MG enthusiast by proxy. It’s really not so bad. Besides being forced to learn the difference between an MGB, an MGA, TDs and TFs, I get to partake in the yearly MG trip to some delightful destination in a caravan of wonderful historic cars, driven by T’s mom (yellow), T’s dad (orange), T’s brother (maroon), and T and me (black). This is us two years ago on our way to San Francisco, at a stop-over in Kansas.

This year, we’re driving with several more MG participants on our way to Colorado, so if you see a caravan of seven or so historic vehicles heading West, wave! Chances are, I’ll be waving back to you from the little black one…
I love riding in the MG because, much like a bike, it allows you to take in the scents, sights, and sounds around you unlike a conventional car ride can. But if you’ve ever ridden in a convertible for a prolonged amount of time, you know it can wreak havoc on your hair and skin. Last time, a decent portion of my hair broke from the wind, so I ended up wearing a baseball cap and bun to avoid further damage. This year, I’m exploring ways to stay stylish without resorting to a baseball cap and hair knot. Such as by wearing this hat I just picked up at Target. I don’t wear hats very often, so I feel a little self-conscious in it and only hope that it looks more elegant than old lady-ish.
Any suggestions of how to stay stylish and protect my hair and face from the wind and sun? Please send me any tips you may have! I welcome any ideas that don’t result in me looking like a ten year old boy riding along side T.! S.

You look fabulous! That combination is perfect and very flattering.
For other hair protecting options – Go 50′s glamour and tie a beautiful scarf and wear sunglasses – you could hardly go wrong! Especially in a vintage ride like yours.
I love that outfit on you, and I think the hat is very elegant. I second the glasses/scarf combination. First, the scarf may stay put better than a hat and second, it’s a look I’ve always wanted to try but don’t have the vintage car excuse :)
Is the adorable Indie your roommate or T.’s?
I think the hat is the perfect touch. Only one concern – will it stay on with the wind?
Yikes! I can’t say I’ve got any suggestions, but hope that hat is the answer. It’s darling.
I was thinking scarf too! What a beautiful way it would be to add another element to the outfit.
Definitely headscarf and sunglasses! If it’s good enough for Grace Kelly, Jackie O, and Audrey Hepburn, it’s definitely good enough for us :)
Thanks, everyone! I think I will definitely try the scarf + sunglasses look and take your word for it that I won’t look silly doing it!
@Anna – T. and I have shared custody of Indie but she’s been mostly his roommate, while the orange fluffball I call Louie has been mine. We’re a modern blended family. ;)
@Tina – the hat is a snug fit, which is why I got it, but you’re right – once we’re on the freeway and it’s super windy, I have to hold on to it for it to stay on. So that’s why the scarf may be a better solution.

I love this hat! Combined with that fab dress and beautiful yellow bag, you look spectacular.
I would go with a headscarf to beat the wind.
Hi, S. The hat is great! I’m in town for another 10 days, and I like your suggestion of going out for coffee (because I would love to hear about your work); do you have any time to spare before you leave on your road trip? Maybe Friday afternoon (tomorrow) at the coffee shop across from the be-flowered bicycle? (Alternatively, I could meet you on campus around noon.) If you’re too busy packing to manage, don’t worry about it. Have a great trip!
Cheers,
Erika
U are darling!! How fun to go on a roadtrip like that!!!
Love the hat!
scarf and sunnies!
you will look gorgeous!
Is Indie going too?
YOU!!!! You are so adorable with your hat! And your yellow bag! I love it! You are definitely a hat person. This is so gorgeous. Have fun on your trip! I’m so envious. I love road trips.
You definitely should wear a scarf on your head and big sunglasses while riding around. Check out this scarf tying guide: <a href=http://www.texeresilk.com/cms-tying_head.html
Adorable! Try a hat pin too. Or a scarf and sunglasses a la Grace Kelly. Much better than a baseball cap.
Love the MG’s! I’ll be posting a picture of my Dad’s MG tomorrow so have a squizz if you’re interested. I love my hubby’s convertible too. Driving with the top down is KILLER. Extra sun block is definitely in order. Enjoy your trip!
Thanks, everyone! I’ve been looking up Grace Kelly-ish ways to wear a head scarf as a break from work today. You have persuaded me that a Hollywood type scarf with sunglasses is the way to go! Hopefully, I’ll have some pictures to post along the way.

I have to say that this particular outfit caught my eye. I am a fan of both color and hats.
In addition, my first real boyfriend drove an MGB (his initials were G.B., so we said the car was named after him : Mister G.B.), so your photos bring back fond teenage memories.
I like the scarf and sunglasses idea, as well. Hoping you’ll post a pic.
