With about one month left to go in this pregnancy I am being hit by the dreaded preggers bloat. I woke up this morning just feeling puffy, and I was sorely tempted to cloak myself in a jersey dress and call it a day. But, I had a doctor’s appointment early this morning and that meant that a dress was out of the question.
I started wondering, though, if, perhaps, I should take another approach to dressing on bloated days. What if instead of wearing all stretchy jersey I forced myself to wear at least one structured piece? What if I eschewed a jersey skirt for a pair of tailored shorts? And what if I punched it up with a bright color combination that I know looks good against my skin tone? And what if I wore (stable but sexy) wedges rather than slippers? Could the bloat keep me down then?
All that is, of course, fairly standard style advice, but I think it takes a wee bit more convincing when you’re preggers and you feel like you are losing a lot of control over your body. Today, though, it worked and I’m glad I did it. And now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go drink some more water and put my feet up…!

That yellow top looks great on you, and if anything, it should definitely inject some sunshine into your day as you said. :)
You look fantastic! I love the yellow and blue, and the structured shorts really pull the look together.
Cute outfit! Look at you wearing heels while 8 months pregnant! Yeah for no swollen feet :)
Well played, lady. Way to beat the bloat with structure and color!
You look lovely! Kudos for staying stylish even while not feeling well :)
I love your blog. I have been following it faithfully for few months now, and while I admire all the three of you, I love your style the most. And let me say, before your post on proportions I had no idea that you have a long torso, short legs, etc., that’s how well you dress.
I wish I could wear those shoes when I was 8 months pregnant. You look fantastic, not puffy, so don’t worry a bit! My legs were huge beginning with the 5th or 6th month. Your legs are not (or at least don’t look) swollen at all. I have no idea how you do that, but I am happy for you. Good luck with the last month of pregnancy and the delivery!
I intend to have a second baby at some point and when that will happen I will use you as a style inspiration not to let myself down during the pregnancy. Thanks!
Fantastic color combination of the lemony yellow and that bright blue! Those walking shorts look fantastic on you, too. Great look!
Love that bright yellow top with the brown and teal!
I can hardly believe you are due in a month; you look that fabulous. I was a beached whale at 8 months! Your colors are always fresh and full of “punch”.
I adore the color combo and you are seriously one stylish mama!
[...] few days ago it was yellow and turquoise, and today it’s blue-green and orange. Yum. To me, these are both fairly summery combinations [...]
Very stylish. . .I am impressed as I usually outgrow all pants & shorts by 8 months! :)
No matter what the books say, you *can* wear a dress for your appts; my midwife got out a sheet to cover my bottom half when it was time to measure and listen to baby’s heartbeat.
