I feel a little guilty since this is, in many ways, just a pants version of an outfit I wore a week ago: a white top with a built-in accessory and dark denim on the bottom. But I’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to wear this top and yesterday’s fairly packed schedule of assorted activities — leading a gallery talk at a local alternative space, having a movie date with my husband, and ending up at a birthday party for a friend — let this shirt’s versatility shine. For me, it hit the perfect in-between note of artsy, laid-back polish.
I think necklines with detailing might be my latest style obsession. Besides this top’s lovely woven satin detail, I have my black tunic and coral jacket with pleated necklines, and two purple tops with ruffled necks.

I swear I didn’t set out to amass a collection of tops like this! I’d like to think that the fact that several of them were gifts means that other folks recognized some affinity between such necklines and my personal style, though I can’t really offer a rationale for that!
What about you? Have you ever had a wardrobe fixation sneak up on you? What was it? Or are you far too self-conscious of a wardrobe-builder to allow such a trend to emerge?

I love that beautiful neckline and the Grecian-like draping. I think the current fixation that is sneaking up on me is deep v-neck tops with waist detailing. I found three on one thrifting trip recently, and now they’re all I want to wear!
That top is just stunning. Very Grecian goddess on you, beautiful E!
I have amassed quite a collection of embellished SKIRTS very much by accident. I am still drawn to them now, but am trying to counteract their specificity by procuring lots of bright solids.
I just love these neckline details! I definitely don’t think it’s a bad thing that you now have a collection!
I really like that top on you, good job E’s MIL!
I have recently realized I tend to buy very similar colors and styles over and over again. For example, I own two teal short sleeved wrap tops, 3 short sleeve eggplant blouses, and about 6 or 7 black 3/4 sleeve deep v necks. Each piece varies slightly, but they’re essentially the same! I’m not sure if it’s a reflection of my (apparently limited) personal style, or that I know what flatters and don’t want to take risks.
That top is STUNNING. I wish I could find something like that for non-pregnant ladies. (I actually tried on the purple sleeveless top from Target, even though I am not pregnant. I just crossed my fingers and prayed that it would fit, but it didn’t.)
My collection of tops included every kind of detailed neckline imaginable. I wear jeans to work everyday, usually with some version of a black flat, and I don’t wear much jewelry besides earrings and a watch, so necklines are where I get a little crazy. I have a huge collection of tops with ruffles, pleating, beading, stones, and shirring.
I love your top! Your MIL has great taste.
I have a lot of a-line tops in my clothing arsenal. I like them as they camouflage my middle, though sometimes the a-lines can be too wide.
The cream top is lovely.
I don’t have very many nice tops, most of mine seem to be basics and casuals.
But I have far too many pretty dresses!
Oh I think I have a new obsession now! The one that I did notice this with is jumpers – I started buying them on ebay or resale shops this winter (for the spring/summer) and before I realized it I had 5 in my closet!!! And I am still looking!!!
That top is super cute! If those necklines work for you, why not build up a collection?
I recently realized that nearly 40% of my closet involves the color teal. Maybe it’s because I had a great time wearing it in a friend’s wedding last year, but it makes me feel happy and relaxed. Plus it goes well with black, brown, purple, pink…
A few years ago I was really into print a-line skirts. I didn’t realize how many I owned until I dug them out of my sister’s closet last week.
Beautiful top!
