I remember a few years ago in my undergrad seeing off-white as THE color one winter- off white coats, boots, scarves, turtlenecks, etc. in magazines and stores everywhere! I wasn’t living in my current eternally summer state- AZ, and was in a winter climate. It honestly blew my mind, in a good way! I decided white looks amazing in the snow, and I’m inspired by snow to look bright and cheery! Seasonal clothing colors are such a wrong form of segregation!

I never pack away any of my clothes…well, maybe winter coats, but they just go hang in a closet in the basement.

All clothes are always all year round, you know, if the opportunity presents itself.

I love the color combination and that skirt is fantastic! There are some things in my closet that I reserve for summer or winter. I suppose I could wear them on certain days in spring and autumn (although some of my heavier weight wool dresses are really only for the real cold), but I sort of like having those things to look forward to. Especially in the hot summer – it’s like I can say that at least it’s hot, but I have this fun thing to wear. Silly, I know!

I’m from “sunny” San Diego, and currently, it’s pretty gloomy outside. Yesterday, the weather switched from sunny to hailing (!) in a fit of schizophrenic frenzy. Last year, around this time, it was a pleasant 85 degrees. So, yeah, I don’t exactly believe in seasonal clothing/colors. :D

I love all that turqoise! I think that those colors are so summery and cheerful, they definitely counteract the fabric of the skirt. Anyway, I don’t worry much about fashion rules like “don’t wear winter fabrics in summer.” Just dress for what it feels like outside, and your good to go.

I don’t pack away by color, (with the exception of white sandals–I do follow that adage, but maybe I wouldn’t if I had some white shoes which weren’t open toed), but I do pack away most of my sweaters for the summer, and a bunch of summer-y printed skirts for the winter (just don’t want a cotton beach-y skirt when I have to wear a wool overcoat). I always keep a few sweaters, etc. out for the summer, and I leave most of my sleeveless stuff out year-round for layering.

I love the blues and greens in your outfit!

Living in Florida, some clothes definitely have limited times of the year when I wear them. The only things I actually pack away are wool sweaters and coats. There are certain colors and fabrics that I generally don’t wear in the summer, but I try not to keep too many hard and fast rules when it comes to style.

I have a very big wardrobe and therefore have a drag-out/pack-away every season.

Velvets don’t come out until the fall and get put away in the spring. I do think that velvet just looks totally wrong on a sunny June day and I can’t really see why anybody would want to wear them. The same goes for corduroy, brocade, and most other napped/textured fabrics.

Linens, I wear only in the summer. You could argue for extending linen into the spring and fall if it’s warm, but the trouble is it’s such a pain to take care of that, come September, I’m glad to see the back of it.

I never, ever wear anything that’s 100% synthetic in the summer, either. The risk that it will get really hot, and I’ll end up sweating like pork in plastic, is just too much. Although when I need sleeves, say for work or church etc., and my top or dress doesn’t have them, I do make an exception for certain blazers (which usually have a synthetic lining) and viscose cardigans. They’re not too bad, especially since they won’t be right up against my skin. Pullovers, though, get put away for the summer.

I wear boots from late October through to Easter, changing to one-piece, closed-toed, closed-backed shoes if the weather turns mild (over 15 degrees). Slingbacks and two-part shoes come out in the spring, like crocuses and tax returns. From June to the end of August, it’s open toes time (except for ballet flats and skimmers, of course), and one-piece closed-toe shoes return in September.

Below 15 degrees, I wear opaque tights. Above 15 degrees, I wear fishnets.

My hats are stacked in boxes and don’t get put away like my clothes and shoes do. However, I usually confine straw hats to the summer, though I do make the odd exception. But my first straw hat comes out on Easter Sunday. On 1 September I break out the felt or fabric hats (felt hats to be worn in boot weather, fabric in shoe weather). Fabric hats have the most wearability and can be worn all year round except for definite winter, which is quite short in this part of the world.

I also like to keep anything with a flower pattern for spring and summer.

I never wear coats in the summer, I take along a blazer, cardigan, or wrap. I never get too hot or too cold with this system and while I get the argument about changeable weather, I can always find something suitable without having to drag stuff out from storage.

I don’t really buy into the idea of seasonal colours, though. It so happens that most of my things that are in “winter” fabrics are also in jewel tones like dark green, burgundy, and purple; and that the ones in lighter-weight fabrics are often in lighter colours. But if I have a light-coloured outfit in winter-wearable fabrics I don’t hesitate to wear it in the winter, any more than I would hesitate to wear a deep purple or burgundy in a summer-wearable fabric.
