End Notes:
I have a warm spot in my heart for “convertible” clothing. I love the idea of having one piece that can be drastically altered with a few different loops, ties, or wraps. So, when the good folks over at weardrobe invited us to borrow some items from their newly launched closet, I jumped at the chance to try out this lovely, fine gauge cardigan from (and now on sale at) Anthropologie.
Most of the suggested ways to style this cardigan involve some drapey business down the front. Since I have something else — as in, a seven and a half month preggers bump — going on in front, I tried to find a way to style the cardigan so as to still show off its gorgeous flow while not competing with my belly. I found two ways: the fluttery, more shawl-like version show above and this asymmetrical wrap and gather in the front:
Half the fun, of course, is figuring out what to do with all that fabric!
This is, of course, grossly inappropriate for this week’s challenge of laboratory chic. But do not fear, lab-bound ladies, I have an alternative for you, too.

Love the cardigan, it looks light as a feather and I have huge thing for convertible items like you. SO, I think you should check out the EMAMI dress from Iceland: http://www.emami.dk – go to the video section and watch some of many ways this dress/skirt/top can be shaped. I just ordered mine and I can’t wait to start experimenting.
That cardigan is amazing! You’ve got me seriously considering buying it – I’m thinking either the purple, or getting the ivory and dyeing it red.
The cardigan is beautiful. I love the gathered version.
Love the cardi – I actually have it in my “cart” right now. Diana – great idea about dyeing it!
I’m thinking of dyeing a one-button jacket, but i’m so nervous as i’ve never done it before! Has anyone got any tips!?
Looking gorgeous as always E!
@ Anne. ooh I just had a look at the Emami dress video! Wow! It looks gorgeous. Please let us know how that goes!
Not normally into the fluttery cardi look because there’s always some awkward tail end hanging into your soup or ice cream but I like this one muchly… Looks wonderful!
[...] but we just got it on loan from the weardrobe closet and I was dying to try it on today. Yesterday, E. demonstrated the crazy shape of it, but that’s what makes it so fun – you can keep playing with it until you find a shape you [...]
That is so fun!! I am loving versatile pieces like that.

Thanks, all. I didn’t want to pass it on, but I did. I might talk myself into buying one of my own, though!
@Anne – That dress is amazing! Let me know if it is just as fabulous and easy to convert in person!
@Diana – I would love to see it dyed red! I’ve never dyed anything besides plain old woven or knit cotton, so please pass along any tips if you decide to go that route.
@Admin & Aussie: Received my dress today – and it is GORGEOUS! It’s super soft and hangs beautifully (like good quality viscose). I can’t wait to wear it, and you can get it via the website (price is “European” though – I guess we’ll pay anything for nice clothes… ;-))

[...] We were so excited when the kind folks over at Weardrobe invited us to raid their closet. All three of us had fun playing with the Possibilities cardigan from Anthropologie, and both A. and I enjoyed [...]
@ Anne – So glad to hear your dress looks as good in person as on the website! Piccies!!!

OMG, I’m dying to get one. Does anyone know who’s still carrying it or if someone wants to sell theirs to me :)
[...] used to sell an identical piece called “Possibilities” (modeled by the Academichics here). With that in mind, I’ve decided to call my cardigan “Probabilities,” because [...]
