I’m realizing that a style-bonus to being preggers is that my limited wardrobe is making me be more adventurous in what pieces I pair together. I am usually pretty bold with color mixing, but I tend to be more conservative with what shapes and proportions I put together. Now that I have fewer pieces to choose from I’m actually ending up with some combinations that I may have to remember post-baby.

In my pre-preggers days I would not have a) owned this many tunics and b) ever tried wearing a tunic over a jersey skirt. But, since laundry day is coming up soon and my bump continues to expand, I tried it on today and liked it. The length of this tunic combined with the skirt works to almost invert my normal proportions but in a purposeful — and therefore we hope interesting! — way.

I also think these proportions work best with flats, which is perfect for the last day of our week without heels. I can’t overstate how much fun having a pair of multi-colored patterned flats is. I’ve worn these with a primarily red outfit, as part of pattern mix where the shapes more than the colors tied things together, and to add a flowery pop to a yellow and cream look. I know at least a couple of our readers have these same shoes, and I’m curious what you’ve worn them with! Or, if you have another multicolored patterned flat how do you incorporate it into your wardrobe? Do share.

I love the rich color of that tunic! Multicolored/patterned flats seem to be one of the gaping holes in my shoe closet (yes, there’s a whole closet). Gotta get me some! You look great today!

I LOVE those patterned flats (and I really want a pair), but I really love how you paired them with a blue shirt! Such a great color combination!

I have those same flats, and every time I see you wearing them, I pull them out and try them on with a million outfits. But when push comes to shove, I chicken out and wear my plain black flats every single time. For some reason color and/or pattern on my feet freak me out.

I really wish I could be more daring. I just bought a patterned top (my first in over a decade) and that is stepping outside of my comfort zone significantly. In the past few years I have started wearing a lot more (solid) color. Three years ago every shirt I owned was black, so I am making progress, just in baby steps!

As far as mixing colors, I just can’t do it. As a child I put together truly flamboyant outfits, but my first day of middle school I basically got terrorized by the popular girls for wearing pink shorts with a navy blue polo shirt and white chucks with navy blue laces, plus pink jewelry. It sounds stupid, but I still think of those mean girls when I try to get creative with color, and I am 28! Ridiculous and yet I just cannot shake it. Someday.

I love the pretty tunic and flats. The blue is just delicious.

I love your flowery flats! I’ve got a pair of leopard print flats that I absolutely adore – I basically think of them as a neutral. I mostly wear them with jeans or a black skirt.

I love your style and can’t wait to see your “mommy” style. I have a nine month old and am in my senior year of undergrad. I’ll be juggling staying home with my son, going to classes, applying to grad school and starting my first internship/”grown up” job in the fall. It’s a struggle to find something that’s appropriate for all these things. Your style is so inspiring. Thanks!

I love the mix of tunic and skirt here! That’s something I would never have thought could work, but it looks fantastic on you. Also, these pictures are gorgeous – very high quality.
