End Notes:

Do you ever have a hard time getting dressed when the schedule for your day is in flux? I’m not sure if I’ll be working on design projects all day inside, if the weather will allow me to work in my backyard, or if perhaps I’ll be able to sneak away to a craft store. I find it incredibly difficult to get dressed on days like today and, as a result, I’m feeling rather uninspired.

I’ve written before about how a pair of shoes can save an outfit for me. My patterned flats have done so numerous times, but another go-to pair for “blah” days is my red Naturalizer wedges.

Red Wedges

When I snagged these at DSW two years ago I thought that they would be occasional shoes. I was wrong. Not only are they incredibly comfortable (since they’re Naturalizers they have fantastic support and padding), they manage to make even simple outfits a little bit more fun.

Do you have a “go-to” item of clothing, a pair of shoes, or an accessory that serves as a wardrobe rescuer of sorts? What is it and why do you love it so?

  1. love the ensemble… as the heat comes and there is less to wear.. your accessories are your best friends… or enemy depending on how much you spend… love the necklace!

My Fluevog Giulia booties are much the same. They’re a raspberry red, and I figured they’d get worn only rarely … but I might wear them more often than any other pair!

I totally know the feeling! I’ve had a hard time getting dressed the last few days, because I’m slogging my way through my last piece of coursework (ever! yay!) and feel no need to dress up for that, but don’t want to look like a slob because that will be make me depressed and unproductive. Sigh.

I rescued today’s outfit (t-shirt, skinny jeans and a cardigan — see! so uninspired!) with my pseudo-motorcycle boots, because they make me feel like a badass rockstar historian.

I think my go-to item is any fitted jacket. I can wear a tee and jeans for comfort and just feel blah, but as soon as that jacket hits my body I feel instantly better about how I look. Gotta love a good jacket! Fun colored shoes are my second go-to item. Just kicks everything up a notch.

Hello! I was following some links and found my way here, from a scientist’s blog post about academics and fashion blogs. In any case, I love the mission statement against polyester suits in the academy! You and your friends look adorable here. My colleague/friend Minh-ha and I are also fighting the good fight — at the last academic conference we went to together, I wore a vintage blue wiggle dress and she wore an Alexander McQueen tuxedo jumpsuit. (And on, not the MLA!) In any case, check us out at our blog Threadbared when you get a chance.

Great shoes!! I totally believe that shoes can make or break an outfit and it is easy to see how these can “make” so many great outfits!

  7. Diana says:

I love those shoes! I’ve definitely experienced the effect that great shoes can have on brightening up an outfit before.

  8. Goober says:

Love the shoes! As the proud owner of many pairs of red shoes, I think they can really add a punch to many outfits. I agree with Kimberly, shoes can make or break an outfit.

    Such pretty shoes!

Well, for uninspired, you look great! I love the color combination of the turquoise and red!

I love the colors of this outfit!!

    Love the “well-loved” tag :)

    Cute turquoise top!

I love the shoes! I bought a pair of red shoes last year that I wore maybe twice and I’m so bummed. I need a pair like this that I could wear often. The combo with the turquoise is great. As for go-to shoes, in the fall/winter it’s definitely my ankle height brown boots. I don’t really have a spring/summer pair.
