Endnotes:

I spent most of today in sweats- catching up on laundry, grading, and other various tasks! So, now I am more than ready for a mid-week evening out.

As we are play with making spring trends work for us this week, I have been using my breaks from grading to flip through my catalogs and various fashion websites. I am intrigued by the safari/tribal trend for this spring. Like S. observed in J Crew, this trend similarly seems to embrace a certain tension. I’ve seen quite a few sequined skirts paired with safari style jackets.

Tonight I’ve decided to push a rather safe evening look (silk top and black pants) by introducing some subtle safari flare. While maybe not exactly the current style, the roll and button sleeves and khaki color give this cardigan a safari feel. The Hawaiian beads, shell necklace, and straw clutch are my attempt at the faux-tribal.

Have you jumped on the safari bandwagon (or jeep as the case may be)?

I didn’t realize that the safari look was in. But here’s what I wore recently. It’s sortof safari-ish with the linen belted top and the sagey green cargo pants. Only thing I’d change to make it more safari are my shoes.

I have a brown safari style jacket that I bought about 3 years ago and never worn and a tribal style halter neck dress I bought last year. Maybe I should pair them up!

Oooo, this looks great on you. Funny you should mention the safari trend. I bought a cotton khaki shirt/jacket just yesterday. I like that it can do either shirt or jacket duty. The belted waist is flattering, too. Today I’m wearing it as a jacket over a black cowl-necked top paired with jeans. When it warms up, I plan to roll up and snap the sleeves and wear it as a shirt with white pants and leopard print flats or red sandals. Your bold jewelry works well and makes me think I need to rummage in my jewelry box and see if I have some good necklaces for this look. Thanks for the inspiration.

I love how posh yet casual and seemingly comfortable this look is. You really nailed it!

  5. Sal says:

This isn’t a look/trend I typically like, but your amazing outfit is making me rethink!

  6. Kelly says:

I would have never thought to layer those necklaces! Looks great!

Looks sharp. Your coloring is good for those neutrals and olives that show in safari. But there has to be a better word for the style than “tribal”—icky connotations.

    Thanks everyone!

Yolio – I couldn’t agree more! This week I am having more trouble with the terms for trends than the trends themselves! As a feminist post-colonialist it is hard to write these in a non critical way!
