End Notes:

It’s my turn to wear the traveling scarf today! A. made this look so fresh as a belt over a baby blue cardi, and S. looked radiant with it as a neck-tie. I don’t usually wear square silk scarves, so it a little while for me to brainstorm a way to incorporate an unfamiliar accessory in a way that would still feel like “me.” Since our Fashion 101 on Color, I’ve become a big fan of purple and red. So I decided to use the scarf as a kind of trim to my favorite purple cardi and keep the rest of the outfit simple in brown and tan. I think all three of us will be sad to see such a pretty scarf leave, but we loved the challenge of styling the same item three different ways on back-to-back days!

For my final day of self-consciously dressing to emphasize an asset, I’m going to briefly brag about my hair. Even in the midst of growing out a haircut — as I am now — I can’t complain about my hair. As A. mentioned in our lists of random things about each other, my locks possess the rare ability to be slept on wet and emerge unscathed. Humidity has no effect, and I rarely use any sort of hair product. But what I love even more than its low-maintenance requirements is how my hair has a little bit of both of my parents in it. I got the thickness, strength, and darkness from my Japanese mom and the smooth texture and red undertones from my half Scottish dad. Rich hues — like today’s red and brown — lets my hair’s special color take center stage.

Totally cute look! I just found your site a week or two ago. As a Ph.D. (and new mom) who also likes clothes and fashion, I have been inspired by your blog! I especially love your use of color. I’ve been “shopping in my closet” lately based on some of your interesting combinations. Looking forward to more posts on proportions, too.

I was reading some reader comments as saw one in which a reader had suggested you ladies attempt a week without layering. My immediate reaction was to think that was a silly challenge, until my boyfriend inadvertently challeneged me to the same thing. Sunday starts my week without cardigans. Wish me luck!

This look is one of my favorites. I love that you have worn the scarf in a way that makes it look like a piece of clothing rather than an accessory.
