Endnotes:
The lovely Kimberly of Fab Finds Under $50 is sending this beautiful vintage scarf around the country to be worn by different style bloggers. S. and E. will be sporting it later this week.
I loved how Sal wore the scarf as a belt but wanted to try doing it a bit differently so wore it more as an obi with the tied tips of the scarf tucked back in. The predominantly red scarf is a bit outside my usual color palette so I initially thought of paring it with black or white but when I received it i the mail and saw it in person I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of the scarf was actually a pale blue. I paired it with my pale blue cardigan to draw more of this color out while still allowing the red and gold to really pop.

Since we are celebrating our proportions this week, I also have to say I really like the way the obi/belt emphasizes my waist.

Could you show a picture from the back as to how it ties? Thanks!

  2. Sal says:

A, you are clearly tinier of waist than I. The scarf looks fantastic belting your baby blue cardi – love it!

  3. Diana says:

I love how you incorporated the colors of the scarf into the rest of the outfit. Tres fab!

  4. Ellen says:

How do you keep your cardigan from moving around under the belt? I mean, it looks great right now…but how does it look during the middle of the day?

  5. Cosmo says:

I love the attention to detail that you gave the placement of the print on the scarf. The angles of the lines help to emphasize your waist. And the use of color is great.

Such a great put-together outfit! And this whole “traveling scarf” idea is great…I can’t wait for my turn with it!

    Thanks everyone.

Sarah S. – unfortunately I don’t have my camera with me and am passing the scarf on before I head home today but basically I folded the scarf in half into a triangle, the folded it into a long strip, tied it in a knot in back and then tucked the tips back into the scarf. Next time I do a similar thing with one of my own scarves I will be sure to photograph the back!

Ellen – the cardigan isn’t moving around much but the scarf needs to be adjusted every-time I get up from sitting but I think this is because I folded it to show the bit of pattern I liked most rather than folding the tip of the triangle in.

    thanks!

  9. [...] A. set the bar high yesterday when she not only pattern-mixed with the scarf but also drew out the be…So I decided to not not even compete with that, but to go another route entirely: I’m using the scarf as a pop of color against my all black outfit and using my red wedges as another pop of red to balance out the scarf. What do you think? [...]

  10. [...] my turn to wear the traveling scarf today! A. made this look so fresh as a belt over a baby blue cardi, and S. looked radiant with it as a neck-tie. I don’t usually wear square silk scarves, so it [...]

  11. [...] Last time A. wore her scarf in this obi-style, a reader asked to see the back of it. While A. is great at tucking in those ends to create a more seamless look, I’m more sloppy with mine and tend to let the ends just poke out like this: Scarf detail – back, originally uploaded by academichic.    [...]
