Over at Already Pretty, Sal has a discussion going about the psychological power of dressing up precisely when you’re feeling blah or unpretty. I’m a big believer in this philosophy. I was that girl who would wear a dress during finals week in undergrad, hoping that if looked put together I would pull it together on the exam. While I’m not taking a test today, I do have a 6 hour straight block of a meeting, then a class presentation, then class, then another class, then another meeting…and all that before I drive out of town this evening to attend an academic conference! On a day like today, I have no choice but to look polished and in charge.
Which brings me to the admittedly wild print of this dress. I’m not pattern mixing today, but since our module is about simply playing with pattern, I pulled out this crazy red and white number. No one can ignore a pattern like this one, ensuring that I’ll be heard at my meetings and no one in class will fall asleep during my presentation. But to keep distraction at a minimum, I also toned it down just a bit with this long brown cardi. Okay, Big Day. Here I come.

Thanks for the shout-out, beautiful! I love the idea of you wearing gorgeous frocks to your exams. Obviously, that technique won’t do you much good if you didn’t study … but I bet it would keep you alert and focused and feeling proud and powerful. All good things in a high-pressure sitch.
Also, can I say how much I adore your sassy-sideways smile?
I love that dress – red is one of my favorite colors. I absolutely agree about dressing up for exams. I could never understand why some people take exams in their pajamas – I think I would just be sleepy and distracted if I did that.
Thats an awesome way to go about dealing with a potentially horrendous day. For me, generally, the worse my day seems to look, the schlumpier I tend to dress and feel! So I definitely have to try this – its going to take some effort at first, but I think its going to be worth it.
I too am a believer in this philosophy! You look fab, so hope your day is fab too!!
I did the dress-up-for-exams thing too. And always made sure to do a really good job shaving my legs before all-nighters. Even if I would be wearing tights or pants the next day, *I* would know. Hope your Big Day goes well!
