I have to admit I feel like I look a bit like an undergrad today. I think it is a combination of the cutesy print and the shortness of the dress. I actually still love the print but spent most of the day smoothing out the bottom of the dress and trying to pull it down to make it appear longer. It was particularly bad while walking – as soon as I started trekking across campus the skirt began to hike up to inappropriate heights! I’m also not convinced this layering is the most faltering for my shape (the hands-on-cocked-to-the-side-hip pose works wonders).

Now all that being said, I don’t think all hope is lost for this dress. I think the length wouldn’t be as problematic for a summer day that doesn’t involve teaching -plus I think the clinginess of my tights were contributing to the creeping hemline. I also think a more structured layering piece – like my blue blazer- would help with the over all silhouette of the dress. I’ll continue to experiment and if all else fails, I’ll get some help from E. to turn it into a longer skirt. -A

  1. I think trying it with that adorable blue blazer is a great idea! I can’t wait to see the results.

Also I adore the necklace, beautiful and unique!

Did you wear a slip under the dress? If not that certainly contributes to the creeping hemline problem.

I am enjoying this site and all of the information on colouring mixinf is great.

I really like the bright pop of color by the neckline, but I think there are just too many layers going on up there. Perhaps a brighter colored cami OR the colorful tee (but not both) would be worth a try?

Don’t give up hope for it as a dress – I think you’re spot-on, the tights are no doubt contributing to the creeping.

  6. Diana says:

I think the outfits looks excellent – and about 10 times more stylish than what the undergrads at my university wear.
