Sources:

  • Patterned silk top – was my mom’s in the early 90s, she had a seamstress custom make it for her
  • Purple cardi – H&M, remixed
  • Black walking shorts – Old Navy
  • Damask flats – Old Navy, remixed
  • Purple beads – Forever 21

Endnotes:

Another day of pattern mixing, and I’m getting quite comfortable with this. I have been using color as a guide to mixing patterns together – pairing different prints but keeping the color scheme the same between items. Today, I pulled out my favorite flats with a black and white damask print and looked for a print of the same color scheme to add to the outfit. This silk top has a different pattern, but it also mostly black and white with bits of yellow thrown in. From there, I added the purple cardi and beads, since yellow and purple are complementary colors, and play off each other nicely. This pattern mixing is not so scary after all… S.

The nice mix of black and white patterns works well in this outfit. You guys are seriously making me want to go out and buy some patterned flats.

LOVE this outfit! I adore the purple and yellow combo. Black and white make a great base neutral for the combo. You have inspired me to go looking for the perfect pair of walking shorts.

Isn’t it funny how our mom’s fashion choices are the BANES OF OUR EXISTENCE growing up, but once we hit adulthood all we want to do is raid their closets? LOVE this top – I’m amazed your mom would part with it, S!

the little top is what I like the most-the yellow splashes give so much joy and sofistication. your mom must have had good taste and you waring the top this days must make her hapy.
