  • Black tank – H&M
  • Print top – NY & co, thrifted
  • Silk tie – from silk dress thrifted last week
  • Brown skirt – Old Navy, remixed
  • Pink pumps – Antonio Melani, remixed
  • Pearl necklace – J.Jill

Endnotes:

Although I own a lot of patterned pieces, I don’t usually wear them together. So like E., I was feeling a bit unsure of how to approach this week’s module on Pattern. Also like E., I found using color as my guide as the simplest way to keep pattern mixing under control.

I started with this boldly patterned top and worked from there, adding the silk tie from the dress I thrifted last week, and various other items that all conformed to this color scheme: neutrals (black, brown, tan) with shades of pink.  I thought that the color combo of neutrals with one brighter hue would ensure that the mixed patterns (top and belt tie) and textures (silk and jersey) would still all work together to create a harmonious ensemble. I’m with you, S … I fear the pattern mixing. But declare your first go a smashing success!

  2. Kimberly says:

Great idea adding the sash from that wonderful dress you thrifted last week! It looks great!

  3. Diana says:

First, I have to say that I love those pink shoes! Second, I think that your pattern mixing came out well here. I like that the sash is a bit more subtle than the printed top.

  4. Danielle says:

This works so well, and such a pretty blouse!!

  5. Kristen says:

I love this outfit; I love everything about it.

  6. Rija says:

Everything just looks fantastic in this outfit. It’s inspiring.

Hey, any chance you can configure something so that the entire formatted posts will appear in an RSS reader? Right now it just gives me a tiny bit of the post with no pics. Not a problem on the PC but I do a lot of reading on my phone.

  7. S. says:

Thanks, everyone, you’re making me feel much more gutsy as I foray into more pattern mixing territory this week!

Rija, E., our resident blog expert, will play around with that and hopefully be able to figure something out for you! Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve been looking through all your pattern examples in preparation for my challenge week. I hadn’t noticed this one before…beautiful! I love how this color combination brings out the color of your hair.
